Just six short years ago, James Gunn and his friends made a movie about an evil version of teenage Superman. Not Bizarro Superman or Ultraman. An unofficial, deranged, and horrifying version that killed his own parents and wanted to destroy the earth with pure teenage angst. Who instead of saving squirrels, watched girls in their bedrooms late at night. Oh, and exploded lightbulb shards into a waitress’s eyeball before ripping apart her insides and placing them in his spaceship clubhouse for his parents to find. The same guy who is now the co-running the entire DC Universe and director of the colorful, happy Superman of 2025 once spearheaded the effort to create the antithesis to Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel in a completely different way. It’s awesome that the powers that be let this meta-movie exist at all. That Sony allowed Gunn and company to make a hard-r,...

Michael B. Jordan has a new co-star. Less than a week after Taylor Russell exited Amazon MGM Studios' The Thomas Crown Affair remake, her replacement has been found.
According to Variety, Adria Arjona has joined The Thomas Crown Affair, stepping into the co-lead role of the insurance investigator who pursues Jordan's titular billionaire art thief. Russell had been cast in the role since March 2025, but departed late last week over "creative differences." With production having already commenced, Amazon and the movie's producers, which count Jordan and Charles Roven, worked quickly to cast her replacement, with Arjona emerging victorious. She now joins an ensemble that includes Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk, and Aiysha Hart.
Where Have You Seen Adria Arjona Before?
The Thomas Crown Affair marks the latest high-profile role for Arjona, who broke out playing mechanic/black market dealer Bix Caleen in the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor.

Like a snowball down a mountain, or a carnival balloon, production on The Thomas Crown Affair keeps spinning, and it already has its new female lead. Andor's Adria Arjona has joined the heist thriller remake alongside Michael B. Jordan. She comes in to replace Taylor Russell, who departed the production over creative issues. The Amazon MGM Studios remake is set to break into theaters on March 5, 2027.
Variety reports that as soon as Russell left the project, an immediate search began for a new lead, and found one in Arjona. She fills the shoes of Faye Dunaway and Rene Russo, who played Crown's foe-turned-lover in the 1968 Steve McQueen and 1999 Pierce Brosnan versions of the film; they both center around a man who becomes a high-stakes thief to alleviate his boredom with his wealthy lifestyle. “Andor” and “Splitsville” star Adria Arjona is set to join Michael B. Jordan in “The Thomas Crown Affair,” Amazon MGM Studios’ reimagining of the classic romantic heist film.
Arjona joins a star-studded ensemble cast featuring Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk and Aiysha Hart, stepping into the co-lead role following Taylor Russell’s exit. After news broke on Friday, the studio and producers received a flurry of incoming calls about the highly sought-after part and moved quickly to secure a new star. The film, directed by Jordan, is currently in production in London and working toward a March 5, 2027 theatrical release date.
Drew Pearce wrote the script, with plot details being kept under wraps, following a previous draft written by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson, which was based on the 1968 original film starring Steve McQueen. The James Gunn that Mikaela Hoover met 17 years ago is still the same James Gunn she knows today.
In 2008, long before he became the writer-director of Superman and co-ceo of DC Studios, Gunn first auditioned Hoover for his web short Humanzee!. He was quickly won over by her performance, but her insistence on outdoing herself ingratiated herself to the filmmaker even more. Months later, he created another web short specifically for Hoover called Sparky & Mikaela, which chronicled the crime-fighting exploits of her low-rent superhero character and raccoon sidekick. (If the Guardians of the Galaxy roots weren’t already evident, Guardians actors Sean Gunn and Gregg Henry also show up.)
Hoover would go on to appear in Gunn’s second feature film, Super (2010), before working on five more Gunn-associated films. Her friendship with Gunn didn’t preclude her from auditioning, particularly when she landed an opportunity to read for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3...

Update: DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has debunked the rumor that the Wonder Womanfilm is looking for TV actors to take on the Dcu role. He made it clear that the casting process won't begin until well after they have a script ready to go, which it is not. His comment on Threads:

It may feel like the DC world may hinge on the success of Superman. If the new continuity reboot fell flat on its face, one assumes it could spell doom for the rest of the Dcu, but Warner Bros. was banking on James Gunn after hiring him and Peter Safran to head up their division. Gunn would also manage his expectations and not set himself up for failure when he didn’t set his bar at Avengers-level. Weeks ago, the director said, “Other people may say, ‘It’s gotta be a home run, nothing else.’ I’m like, ‘No, I’d be very happy with a double.’ F*****g Iron Man wasn’t the be-all and end-all. It wasn’t Avatar. We are doing something that’s a piece of the puzzle. It’s not the puzzle itself. We have Peacemaker, we have Supergirl, and what we want to do...

James Gunn cleared the air on Wonder Woman casting rumors after DC fans shared theories that Adria Arjona is set to play the super-powered heroine, a rumor that sparked up after some noticed the filmmaker and DC Studios co-head follows the actress on social media.
“I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out [and thought], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman,'” Gunn shared in an interview with Extra. At the time, he was questioned how much of his following choices on social media are connected to whom he casts in his films.
“She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way,” Gunn added.
“But she was in a movie that I made seven years ago,” Gunn said, referencing his 2016 film “The Belko Experiment. “We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her.

After Wonder Woman was largely absent from James Gunn's January 2023 unveiling of the Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters slate (Paradise Lost is set long before Wonder Woman is born) things are now picking up pretty rapidly for the Themysciran princess.
Over two years later, things are picking up as this past May, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav named Wonder Woman as one of the Dcu's four pillars, along with Batman, Superman, and Supergirl.
Then in June, James Gunn announced that a Wonder Woman movie was officially in development.
Around this timeframe, many actresses have all suddenly expressed interest in the role, including Moon Knight's May Calamawy, Scream's Melissa Barrera, and Andor's Adria Arjona.
It's the latter who James Gunn addresses in a recent interview with ExtraTV as the DC Studios co-ceo addresses the prevaling online theory that Gunn wants Arjona for the role because he's following the actress on Instagram.

High body counts tend to be a trademark of slasher and exploitation films, which are popular horror subgenres, but there are all kinds of movies with shocking death tolls. From crime tales like The Purge to zombie movies like Dawn of the Dead, a high tally makes perfect sense in the context of these stories. Add an apocalypse into the mix, and that could very well be the end of humanity entirely.
Some of the greatest high-body-count horror movies leave a lot to the imagination, while others revel in the bloody display. Regardless of viewer preference, there's something to be said for horror movies that leave a trail of bodies in their wake that fans of the genre won't ever forget.

When describing Mike Flanagan’s screenplay pitch and potential director James Watkins’ vision for bringing Clayface to the screen, co-ceo of DC Studios James Gunn said that “their version of that movie, it is so real and true and psychological and body horror and gross.” Peter Safran used the words “indie style chiller” when explicitly describing the movie. But still, the question remains. Why? Out of all the Batman villains available, out of all the “obscure” DC characters you can choose for a spotlight movie, why choose this one in particular for the just-birthed Dcu? If you take a look at Gunn’s filmography, the man does have a creative affinity for the horror genre. 2006’s Slither, 2016’s The Belko Experiment, and 2019’s Brightburn prove this.

Since DC Comics has millions of fans, there are lots of people who care a lot about the movies and TV shows based on the company's characters. Those fans are interested in David Corenswet's Superman workout routine, in why The Batman II is being delayed, and about who almost played Harley Quinn instead of Margot Robbie. Those same fans have been following every detail James Gunn has revealed about his upcoming Superman movie and the other shows and movies he is in control of.
Since James has so much control over a beloved franchise, it seems like fans should know a lot about him. After all, James has never been shy about his past or about his opinions on things like reality TV. Despite that, most fans don't know that James is like other celebrities who have reality TV pasts since he starred in a disturbing show from the genre in the past.

Mike Flanagan and David Dastmalchian are both prominent figures in the horror world, so it’s somewhat surprising that their first collaboration came not on a horror project, but on Flanagan’s upcoming movie The Life of Chuck – which, despite being a Stephen King adaptation, is a drama. Today, Deadline has announced that Flanagan and Dastmalchian are set to work together again… and this time the project is a horror film. Flanagan will be producing Epilogue, which Dastmalchian will star in alongside Flanagan’s wife and frequent collaborator Kate Siegel. Michael Fimognari, who worked as cinematographer on most of Flanagan’s work and directed episodes of The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher (not to mention the films To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and To All the Boys: Always and Forever), will be directing, working from a screenplay by Luke Barnett and Tanner Thomason.

Territory, Netflix's best Yellowstone replacement, debuts to a solid score on Rotten Tomatoes. Originally titled Desert King, by creators Ben Davies and Timothy Lee, Territory is a six-episode Western that puts the spotlight on Marianne Station. It's the world's largest cattle station, owned for generations by the Lawson family dynasty, and a target for rivals, gangsters, and Indigenous elders, as the Lawsons engage in a battle for succession. The Australian drama recently arrived on Netflix, with reviews starting to come in.
Reviews have started to trickle in for Territory on Rotten Tomatoes, with the drama currently sitting at 80%. It's worth noting that this is based only on five reviews, with four positive and one negative, so the score will fluctuate as more reviews come in. At the moment, it averages out to 5.30/10.

During the era of network television, shows used to have a shelf-life of at least 10 seasons. Some TV series that were made before the Ott boom continue to enjoy the freedom to adapt and improve over the course of many years, but the same can’t be said about made-for-ott shows, especially the ones on Netflix. Yes, “guilty pleasure content” like Emily in Paris and Elite has benefited from the hate-watch syndrome. However, a lot of really good shows have been unceremoniously axed by the streaming platform before they could find their audience. The one cancellation that hurt viewers the most was Mindhunter. Now, ever since its termination, fans have been clamoring for David Fincher, Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Anna Torv, and the rest of the team to come together for at least one more season. Like the monkey’s paw curling effect, they did return to Netflix, but just via different projects.

Adam Wingard's Onslaught has found its first cast member. Adria Arjona, who recently appeared opposite Glen Powell in Netflix's Hit Man, is in final negotiations to star in and executive produce the upcoming action thriller from the Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire filmmaker.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Arjona will play "a mother who falls back on a particular set of skills in order to protect her loved ones after she runs afoul of a threat that has escaped a secret military base." Additional details are being kept under wraps, although sources describe it as a "gonzo action horror thriller" in line with Wingard's earlier movies instead of his Monsterverse movies. Wingard is writing the script with frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. The duo previously collaborated on Youre Next and The Guest. The director of the hit Australian horror movie Wolf Creek, Greg McLean, has his sights set on his next project: a possession thriller titled The First Exorcist. McLean directed Wolf Creek back in 2005, as well as its sequel in 2013, and the television spinoff series of the same name in 2016. Per Deadline, McLean will team with producer Mark Fennessy to deliver The First Exorcist, which is expected to begin shooting in Australia next year. Delve into the unique premise of Severance, where a man is split between his real self and work self, unveiling nefarious company secrets. Enjoy the haunting and tense yet humorous atmosphere of Severance, exploring the dynamics of split selves within an eerie office setting. Compare The Belko Experiment to Severance for its similar themes of office horror and powerlessness against secret agendas in both workplaces.
Although the wait for Severance season 2 has been a long and difficult one, luckily there is a movie with strangely similar themes that is a perfect watch until Severance's premiere. On those projects, they have worked with a variety of notable actors including Mad Max: Fury Road's Angus Sampson, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood's Damon Harriman, and Elvis' Olivia DeJonge.
However, their new movie is their biggest yet. In fact, the Late Night with the Devil box office broke a major record, earning the...

Within the battle royale subgenre (named after the 2000 seminal movie), which sees individuals pitted against each other in a fight to the death, The Belko Experiment is one of the standouts. A collaboration from now DC Studios co-CEOs, The Belko Experiment was written by James Gunn, known for his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, and produced by Peter Safran, known to horror fans for his work on the Conjuring franchise. In the director's chair for the 2016 horror film was Wolf Creek helmer Greg McLean. Taking place in a single office block, the movie sees 80 employees at Belko Industries locked inside their workplace and told they must kill their fellow employees or risk being killed themselves. John Gallagher Jr. leads the cast as Mike Milch, an unremarkable worker at Belko Industries who steps up in the face of threat. The Belko Experiment has a huge number of characters and,...

Exclusive: We understand that Guardians of the Galaxy alum Sean Gunn is set to take on the role of evil businessman Maxwell Lord in the new DC Universe that’s being overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
The role was previously played by Pedro Pascal in the 2020 movie Wonder Woman 1984.
It’s not clear if Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord will make a cameo in brother Gunn’s Superman: Legacy which will go into production next year. The character, as I hear it, will be referenced in the background of Legacy but will appear in future DC projects. A similar motif will occur for other characters in the new DC Universe, the first phase which is named Gods and Monsters: Chapter One. Stay tuned.
Maxwell Lord debuted in 1987’s Justice League #1 created by Keith Giffen, J. M. DeMatteis, and Kevin Maguire. Initially conceived as an amigo to the...
