While Professor Albus Dumbledore is one of the most powerful characters in the wizarding world, he won't be dominating the screen in HBO's upcoming Harry Potterreboot, as John Lithgow just clued audiences in on how much they can expect to see Dumbledore in the new show. The character was played by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the original Harry Potter movies, with Jude Law playing a younger version of Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts films. The new series is still in development, and the search for the new Harry Potter is ongoing. Although a shooting schedule hasn't yet been decided, Lithgow knows how present Dumbledore will be in the new show, and it's less than you might think.

During an appearance on the SmartLess podcast, John Lithgow revealed that Dumbledore won't be stealing the show in HBO's Harry Potter reboot series. "Dumbledore is kind of the nuclear weapon," the actor said.

Film distributor Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired the documentary “The Mandela Effect Phenomenon” from writer-director Robert Kiviat. Uncork’d plans a July 9 digital release.

Some take this a step further and assume their confusion stems from the truths of other realities entering their own. The phrase “Mandela Effect” was coined by paranormal researcher Fiona Broome, who in 2009, thought former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela had died in prison when he had been released in 1990.

Nelson Mandela, the iconic anti-apartheid leader who went from 27 years as a political prisoner to eventually becoming the first president of a free South Africa, will be the subject of the 30-hour scripted TV series “Mandela.” The project is currently the works at writer/producer Josh Wakely’s Grace: A Storytelling Company shingle.

Wakely has secured the TV series life rights to the late Mandela via House of Mandela Entertainment, the media arm of the Mandela estate. Wakely will executive produce and write “Mandela,” along with South African writer/director Kagiso Lediga (“Queen Sono”) and producer Kweku Mandela (who is also Nelson Mandela’s grandson).

The project, which Wakely compares to a multi-season saga in the vein of Netflix’s “The Crown,” will center on Mandela’s life as he was sent to prison while aiming to end apartheid, the system of institutional racism and segregation that was administered in South Africa for generations.

Exclusive: Producers Peter Saraf and Eddie Rubin, who are in Park City to premiere the Sundance buzz titles Out of My Mind and Winner, have joined forces to create Optimistic Pictures, to develop and produce film and TV properties with an independent sensibility.

Mable Haddock, the founding president and first CEO of the National Black Programming Consortium — now Black Public Media — died of kidney disease in New York City on Saturday, July 23, following a brief hospitalization. She was 74.

Black Public Media is a Harlem-based national media arts nonprofit dedicated to creating and producing media content about the Black experience.

“Mable exemplified what it meant to be authentically Black and female in a professional space,” said Bpm Executive Director Leslie Fields-Cruz. “She wasn’t afraid to speak truth to power, both verbally and in her writings. A true trailblazer, she was a warrior in the fight for equity in public media, and a friend to all.”

Haddock helped found Nbpc in 1979 in Columbus, Ohio, with a mission to support Black stories and storytellers in film and television. She spearheaded the nonprofit for more than 25 years and oversaw its transition to its eventual home in Harlem.

Mable Haddock, the founding president and first CEO of Black Public Media, a major film and TV funding nonprofit, has died. She was 74.

Haddock died Saturday in New York City of kidney disease after a brief hospitalization, it was announced Wednesday by Black Public Media.

In the 1970s, Haddock saw a need to diversify stories told on TV and set about to support Black filmmakers and producers and their films and TV programs and series. In 1979, she created Bpm, then known as National Black Programming Consortium, which under her leadership supported hundreds of Black directors and producers with funding and having their work distributed on public television.

Producers Ed Saxon and Nina Yang Bongiovi are taking on new roles in support of the Peter Stark Producing Program at the University of Southern California.

Saxon will serve as the program’s Chair, with Bongiovi filling a new role, as its Associate Chair and Producer-In-Residence.

Both producers are alums of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. They were chosen following a multi-stage selection process, involving a comprehensive analysis and review of the program’s curriculum, and will take their posts immediately.

As Chair, Saxon will build on the program’s legacy, adapting it to meet the needs of students and the realities of the job market. In her role, Bongiovi will ensure that students are supported and mentored, as they receive on-the-ground training, reflecting current industry practice.

The change in leadership at USC was announced today by Elizabeth M. Daley, who serves as Dean of the School of Cinematic Arts.
