Résumé
Reviewers say 'It Ends with Us' explores love, trauma, and domestic abuse, with mixed reactions. Positive reviews praise Blake Lively's performance, the films visual appeal, and the fact it's a fairly faithful adaptation. Criticisms include superficial themes, inconsistent tone, and lack of character depth. Some appreciate the handling of domestic violence, while others feel it is glossed over. The lead actors' chemistry and pacing receive varied feedback. Overall, it is a visually appealing film with strong performances, but its sensitive theme handling and tonal inconsistencies may leave some unsatisfied.
Avis à la une
I honestly feel the hate this movie is getting is unwarranted. I personally wouldn't nominate it for any awards, but I enjoyed watching it. I read the book and I felt it was pretty true to the original story. At no point did I roll my eyes due to poor writing - nothing in the writing was distractingly bad. I also think the actors all did a good job. I didn't want to like the actor who played Ryle, but I came around to him. The casting was honestly pretty perfect. I am a Blake Lively fan, and I feel she performed just as well in this as she usually does. I would say I got exactly what I expected from this movie, and nothing more or less.
The film itself is great. Most actors did their part well. There are some twists in the way story is told, though it isn't difficult to guess where it was going.
The only thing that really bothered me was the character of Lily Bloom. Oh my god, Blake Lively has seriously ruined some scenes. Her acting was too cringe and annoying boring rather than bad... she made me feel like some part of the Gossip Girls were put in there randomly. Not sure why they picked her for the female lead as there are so many other talented actresses out there, who could made much much more impact portraying Bloom, like Margaret Qualley?!

Lot of potential here but as someone who lived through A LOT of domestic violence situations, watching Hollywood make it artsy so mainstream audiences can "handle it" to me really misses the mark of helping people understand what it feels like. I really enjoyed what this film tried to do but do not feel like it translated well to the big screen. Sure they were attempting to show gaslighting and whatnot, but I think you, the audience should have felt more powerful emotional response to what you were witnessing. I think we needed to hear more of the pain vs the silent flashbacks. Perhaps this could of been a part 1 and part 2 where in part 1 we stay in lillys high school years and learn more about her unstable home life and get a chance to bond with the character. Just wanted more than the film gave. At least it's creating an important narrative that isn't option talked about. Its a start...
Another actress should have been casted as Lily. A costume director was required to style Lily. Ryle was great. Lily's mother needed more space in the movie, as well as the story between young Lily and Atlas. Should have inserted more content from the book and presented the characters as the book. Lastly, should have been marketed properly. The story is about domestic violence, and viewers should have been informed as such. Some viewers were surprised during the movie and not in a good way. I want to see the director's version of the movie, since we were shown the producer's version. I hope they release it.
Ok film, that is in need of a real leading actress. The leadimg actress can't act and it takes away so much from the film and the experience. Lily is the main character and she is one dimensional.
The story in the film doesn't make it justice to what it should transmit to the viewers. They tried to romanticize violence and bat an eye to the important stuff. We need the director's cut.
This film should not have been tampered with just to comply with a greedy actress who bullied the director, main male actor and executive producer to get her way and in doing so ruined the whole experience for everyone specially fans of the book.

- AnecdotesThe casting of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni as Lily and Ryle caused backlash from fans because in the book, Lily is 23 and Ryle is 30, while Lively is 35 and Baldoni is 39. Author Colleen Hoover explained in an interview that she wanted to age the characters up in the movie to correct a mistake she made in the book. She said, "Back when I wrote It Ends With Us, the new adult [genre] was very popular. You were writing college-age characters. That's what I was contracted to do. I made Lily very young. I didn't know neurosurgeons went to school for 6-12 years. There's not a 20-something neurosurgeon. As I started making this movie, I was like, 'We need to age them out because I messed up.' So, that's my fault."
- GaffesWhen Lily is in the hospital after she has been bitten, when they first show the tattoo and the bite area you can see x's where the bite marks are supposed to be where they missed a frame of CGI.
