Résumé
Reviewers say 'It Ends with Us' explores love, trauma, and domestic abuse, with mixed reactions. Positive reviews praise Blake Lively's performance, the films visual appeal, and the fact it's a fairly faithful adaptation. Criticisms include superficial themes, inconsistent tone, and lack of character depth. Some appreciate the handling of domestic violence, while others feel it is glossed over. The lead actors' chemistry and pacing receive varied feedback. Overall, it is a visually appealing film with strong performances, but its sensitive theme handling and tonal inconsistencies may leave some unsatisfied.
Avis à la une
I wish Director Baldoni would release his cut of the movie. It scored well above Lively's horrible cut that was released. How that happened is tragic.lLively took over and refused to promote the movie if her editing was not accepted. She absolutely took over this movie and ruined it. She would not allow Baldoni, the lead actor and director, to appear iin any promotion of HIS movie. Who would want to work with her after all the receipts he has provided. Go look at Perez Hilton on Instagram. He has all the details.it was a very good book that sought to educate in domestic violence, but the movie was taken over by her vanity and absurd need to self aggrandize.
It's a major letdown. While the story had the potential to be emotionally gripping, the movie feels rushed and shallow, failing to convey the depth and rawness of the book's themes. What makes it worse is Blake Lively's portrayal of Lily - she feels miscast here, her performance lacks the vulnerability and emotional nuance needed to make Lily's journey believable. At times, her delivery feels flat and detached, which makes it hard to connect with her character. The chemistry with the other cast members also feels forced, which only adds to the film's overall lack of impact. This adaptation could have been so much more, but instead, it falls short on almost every level.
In a few words: great message, stunning visuals, and impressive videography. However, the plot feels one-dimensional, as does the character of Lily, who lacks the depth needed to make her truly relatable or memorable. Sure, we're shown her trauma and backstory, but it doesn't fully draw you in or create a genuine emotional connection. It feels like there's a disconnect, as if her struggles are presented more as a narrative requirement than as a lived experience, making it hard to truly immerse yourself in her journey.
The narrative structure also falls flat at times, creating a sense of frustration as it hints at greater potential that it never fully explores.

The film itself is great. Most actors did their part well. There are some twists in the way story is told, though it isn't difficult to guess where it was going.
The only thing that really bothered me was the character of Lily Bloom. Oh my god, Blake Lively has seriously ruined some scenes. Her acting was too cringe and annoying boring rather than bad... she made me feel like some part of the Gossip Girls were put in there randomly. Not sure why they picked her for the female lead as there are so many other talented actresses out there, who could made much much more impact portraying Bloom, like Margaret Qualley?!

Ok film, that is in need of a real leading actress. The leadimg actress can't act and it takes away so much from the film and the experience. Lily is the main character and she is one dimensional.
The story in the film doesn't make it justice to what it should transmit to the viewers. They tried to romanticize violence and bat an eye to the important stuff. We need the director's cut.
This film should not have been tampered with just to comply with a greedy actress who bullied the director, main male actor and executive producer to get her way and in doing so ruined the whole experience for everyone specially fans of the book.

Le saviez-vous
- AnecdotesThe casting of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni as Lily and Ryle caused backlash from fans because in the book, Lily is 23 and Ryle is 30, while Lively is 35 and Baldoni is 39. Author Colleen Hoover explained in an interview that she wanted to age the characters up in the movie to correct a mistake she made in the book. She said, "Back when I wrote It Ends With Us, the new adult [genre] was very popular. You were writing college-age characters. That's what I was contracted to do. I made Lily very young. I didn't know neurosurgeons went to school for 6-12 years. There's not a 20-something neurosurgeon. As I started making this movie, I was like, 'We need to age them out because I messed up.' So, that's my fault."
- GaffesWhen Lily is in the hospital after she has been bitten, when they first show the tattoo and the bite area you can see x's where the bite marks are supposed to be where they missed a frame of CGI.
