Deface

I saw this movie at the Savannah Film Festival and was blown away, it is absolutely gorgeous. Not to mention that it has great message, a message that comes across in nineteen minutes no less. The only problem I saw with this film was that it wasn't longer, I wanted to keep watching. I can't wait until I will be able to buy this because it is filled with everything. Hardship, Loss, Death, Secrecy, Dictatorship, Revolution, and implied Rebellion. I believe that anyone who appreciates good independent films should see DEFACE. I would recommend it to almost everyone I know, and everyone I don't know, come to think of it. But as a student, a SCAD student no less, I believe that this film is amazing.

I saw this short at the Austin Film Festival and although there was another very good short in the section it screened with, none could really compare to Deface. I'm used to many of the shorts, even at a festival like Austin, being a little rough around the edges. But this was really polished. Beautifully shot, acted, and directed. The story is also extremely moving and left me thinking about how stifling it would be to live in a society without even the most necessities (i.e. food) or the most basic rights (i.e. freedom of expression). In addition to the film being terrific, the director was a really nice guy. I aspire to make a short this good someday.

I recently(an hour ago) saw this short film among a compilation of other short films while attending the 32nd Cleveland International Film Festival. While the other shorts were all good, it was this one that stood out for me. Deface is a powerful and moving tale of a man who after losing everything realizes that the state of his country is not fine and he sets out to move others to action with his "defacing" of propaganda posters all throughout his small town. This, of course is punishable by death, but our main character refuses to give up. If you ever have the chance to catch this, do it, its really a great watch. "Let the people rise"
