Had potential - lacked experience

Kelsey Egan had a good idea and did a decent job making it a reality. The story is good, the idea even better. It connects with the past, present, and future of our world.

The directing was on the poor side as well as the overall acting. The pacing was off, too rushed in some places and needlessly slow in others.

There were clear attempts to make it look expensive on a tight budget for a screenplay like that.

Overall, not a bad watch. I have seen supposed blockbusters that sucked worse. Give it a try, if you want something indie and different.

Kelsey Egan, keep up the good work. In time you will make something amazing. I believe!

[5.4] Drink/smoke/inject - Which is the better fix

A more than decent premise that with a bigger budget and in the hand of an expert director like Luc Besson could have made a big entry into the sci-fi / mutation genre like Lucy did back in 2014.

Impressive are the idea of it, not the first though, but from a contaminated air point of view, nearly the first mutation average flick. Not so impressive are the plots, flow and ending of it that could be polished in a sequel.

This was meh

The scenes were rushed. The acting was subpar. I couldn't connect with the main character, and her yelling a lot didn't make me feel anymore for her or what she was going through. It was the same for all the other characters. The whole thing felt superficial. Like the movie wasn't well thought out, they just took an idea and ran with it. The story had no real point to it and felt immature. The ending was very unsatisfying and the twist it presented was laughable and made me roll my eyes internally. There were attempts to add action scenes, but the metal music was cheesy and the action was mediocre. Besides a few pretty shots of the landscape, there was not much to enjoy, other than being amused at how terrible the plot and acting was.

This film needs fixing

In a dystopian future where air is toxic, a troubled young model takes an illicit new drug at a party and suffers a shocking transformation. She undertakes to reverse the effects of the drug, only to discover that her mutations may be the key to saving the human race.

Okay let's do the positives first... Right so now let's do the negatives: Poor acting, poor direction, poor editing, appalling dialogue, everyone angry and raving even when it's not warranted, choppy, messy and chaotic scene changing. Is that enough for you or shall I go on? I think th film tried to be clever beyond the abilities of everyone involved in it.

The music didn't match the scenes

Weird. This movie started off pretty strong just to go down the cheap route. It felt like a whole different movie the second half. The music was also strange. It didn't set the mood and the loud/strange music didn't match the scenes. Honestly, it's so strange how the feel of the movie shifted. Also they dressed the lead very poorly. The clothes hung off her like rags. Her white shorts for the party looked like oversized bloomers. I really had expectations for this movie. It seemed unique and a fun watch outside of my normal genre. The budget was a lot more than I was expecting though you can see certain scene they cut back on (glitching while cutting the fence).

Obviously something else going on with 1 star revews

It's a decent flic, probably produced on a lower budget, definitely a 6 or 7, maybe a 5 if you don't like the concept, definitely worth a watch.

I wouldn't normally review films but it appears like something else is going on given the number of 1 star reviews. A scale of 1 to 10 it's a relative measure from the worst film ever to the best, which can be slightly be influenced by the reviewers preference and film watching experience. THIS IS NOT A ONE STAR film, it's so far away from that it's just insulting. I would argue against any 3 star reviews, there are so many rubbish films out there that you can't possibly put this as 3.

Could've been

South Africa's "The Fix" is one of those movies that, had it a better cast, director and script, it might've been interesting at least. But as it is, I was confused throughout, and I don't know if it was caused by my boredom or if my boredom caused the confusion. In any case, I really didn't get it.

Had the actors been better-let's say Cate Blanchett in the lead instead of Grace Van Dien-the charisma and ability to comprehend emotions and bring a competent script to life would have done wonders. And how about deCaprio as the scheming scientist? Let's add a director like, say, Christopher Nolan to make exciting scenes exciting and dramatic scenes dramatic. And the script...egads, let Christopher pick. I trust him. Because honestly, I think this film had promise as a big budget whatever genre this was. But as a lower budget effort with only one seasoned actor (Clancy Brown in a small role), it just couldn't pull off what it was trying to accomplish.

I give it 4 stars for effort, but gosh it was a jumbled mess that I had no desire to rewatch in order to attempt to understand it.

I've seen worse, much worse.

The ratings on here are a bit harsh in my opinion. Sure it's not a movie that will be remembered in the future but for a rather low budget science fiction from South-Africa it was certainly not that bad. Sure some film locations looked a bit low budget and that could have been easily fixed but besides that the acting was not bad at all and the story was interesting to follow. Grace Van Dien plays the main character and she did well. Maybe with more special effects and a bit more action scenes would have benefited the quality of the movie but overall The Fix is worth a watch if you're not too picky.

South African sci-fi

In the near future, toxin in the air is killing the world. People need to wear respirator masks to survive. Big pharma Aethera has created AIRemedy which is the only known antidote against the toxin, but there may be a limited supply which must be taken constantly. Ella McPhee is the face of AIRemedy advertising. She is depressed over her mother and the world in general despite having a secure supply of the drug. At a party, she takes an overdose of a new drug without knowing the consequences.

This is a South African sci-fi. It is obviously referencing the recent pandemic. Some movies hit that note too hard making it fall flat. This is one of those and it's weird that the toxin has no name. The story is a bit messy. At one point, the movie turns into The Fly including the ear, but then it turns into something else. It wants to be bigger, but it doesn't get there.

Very Good Indie Scifi

The movie works very well with the dystopian theme of a toxic world with unscrupulous drug Companies taking advantage of people without any concern for human life. Definitely something people can identify with.

The actors keep your attention, the storyvmakes sense as it progresses. The movie also does a great job of keeping you captivated by the mysterious drug and its effects with competent action scenes.

They give you just enough information to make you feel like you are learning the truth and does a good job of executing the reveal of the mysterious drug and it's extreme implications for the human race.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the ride.

South African Sci-Fi Stunner!

"The Fix" is an ambitious and deeply personal project, embodying years of Kelsey Egan's passion and expertise. It is one of the great milestones in her ever-growing career, showcasing South Africa's vibrant talent and breathtaking locations in a way that demands attention. The result is a kinetic, heart-pounding journey into a dystopian future-a world fiercely resistant to change.

For an independent production, achieving this level of quality is nothing short of Herculean. Yet, Egan and her team pull it off with skill and evident joy. The performances are stellar, the visuals captivating, and while the story is straightforward, it earns its place among the sci-fi pantheon that came before it. Bravo to everyone involved!

future world

The background of the movie is quite realistic: a future world shrouded in severe air pollution. In this world, breathing is no longer a birthright but a luxury closely tied to economic status. The rich enjoy the "clean air" brought by drugs by virtue of their wealth, while the poor can only survive in the polluted air. This setting is a warning for future environmental crises: when the basic conditions for survival become commodities, the ugliness of human nature and the pathology of society will be exposed. There are obvious problems in the narrative rhythm of the film. The too fast pace in the early stage is like a violent storm, which makes it difficult for the audience to digest a large amount of information in a short period of time, causing some plots and details to be ignored.

A hot mess of something I'm not going to clean up!

The Fix is an interesting take on a hopefully far-from-now futuristic idealistic life. The air is toxic and unbreathable for long periods of time, and everyone has to wear ugly facemasks that filter air or have some type of detoxifying effects on the lungs, or something? The facemasks are an awful flashback to a not-so-distant 2020, from the horror of the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone wears these earpieces and takes calls on them, and other things, plus they also have hologram call jewelry things.

Anyways above and beyond all of these things people do these drugs that they have to go to great legnths to steal, I thought with all the constant dopamine inducing things in their lives they would be content but every type of constant dopamine things that these futuristic people were surrounded by that it would be all they could need but in this future I suppose it was not enough.

As you are thrust into this extremely strange world, the younger crowd of people go to what appears to be clubs of some kind and listen to lots of dubstep hip hop or maybe dubstep rock type music. I couldn't quite place what genre of music it is.

I guess this is futuristic model lifestyle but even right now I haven't the foggiest idea of what a model's lifestyle would be like so I guess it's just more screwed up in the future.

Everyone in the movie is constantly bombarded or consumed in high-end technology communication, i.e., earpiece communications, like constant texting but with an earpiece, and it is hard to understand when they are talking to people actually with them at that moment or not. It's too hard to make sense of what is going on because they are behaving like the kids of the current generation. You can't make heads or tails of the movie flow because the movie is shot in such a way that you have to be ADHD (attention deficit hyper disorder) to understand it.

The movie calms down for a few moments here and there, but this movie type might be appealing to kids of this generation and perhaps future generations. To me, this movie is a hot mess of an accident someone made in their pants.

Sorry, big huge pass on this movie, 0 out of 10 stars.

Interesting premise

A toxic gas has spread across the globe, affecting all life on earth. People are wearing various types of masks to try and survive, even some dogs have masks on. The gas is not instantly fatal, but without masks or one drug that can keep people alive, there is no future. And the drug is in short supply, so the company really can decide who lives and who dies. But there is resistance from within the drug company, with a rogue employee who has smuggled out a possible antidote. Ella is a model, and appeared in one of the companies ad. But being a model doesn't make her rich, and through a convoluted route winds up taking a large dose of the possible antidote. This drug starts to change her physical make up, giving her some interesting powers. And the drug company is after her, since by harvesting her immunity, they can provide a larger supply of an antidote drug, and make lots of money by providing it to those they deem should survive. So can she survive the mutations the drug is giving her, and will the company be able to capture her? And interesting variation on a routine story about a greedy drug company and their desire to reap wealth, and a small group who are opposed to what they are doing. The special effects of her change are perhaps the best part of the movie, and well done. Decent enough movie, but not great. In different hands, with perhaps a larger budget and more refinement, it could be a great thriller.

A nice little film from South Africa

This is by no means a masterpiece, but with its budget it's a pretty decent flick. The plot is that a model drinks a drug that makes her immune to the toxin that is slowly killing the planet. You never know who is good or bad, they all want some piece of her. That ambiguity is the best piece of the film. The acting of the main characters is not bad, but most side characters are amateurish South Africans and it shows. The effects are decent too, although they are not a lot.

Clancy Brown is just cameoing in this film, so him being top billed to get people to watch this does not sit well with me. The main character is played by Grace Van Dien, and she is both beautiful and a good actress. Everybody else is mostly unknown. The end scene was kind of dumb, as well as the identity of Lazarus. The ending is also hinting at a possible sequel.

Bottom line: not something I would recommend, but a good effort.

Now the rest is slightly spoilery, so continue only if you've seen the film.

The premise of the film is that people (and everything else) are dying from an environmental toxin that we can only presume is the result of human action, but the two sides trying to solve the problem either want to sell a temporary antidote only for the "worthy" or to make everybody a different species in order to survive. The first assumes they know better and the latter that humanity, reaching this point, will not continue to be idiotic. In a way, that does make the villain camp more credible, adding to the fun of figuring out which faction one would agree with, but it also detracts from the natural desire of viewers to side with someone. I am not sure the writer saw it that way, so it may only be an involuntary achievement. You decide.

Hot Garbage

This movie was hot garbage; I have no idea how it got so many stars. It's painfully cheesy, the main character is completely unlikeable, and the soundtrack was just awful. My favorite line in the movie-and I'm paraphrasing-was about one of the scientists being a "prodigy with a gang background." LOL, what the heck? Seriously?

A dystopian tale that should continue

I found this movie to be quite interesting. If there were to be more of it I would definitely watch. It felt like one of the dystopian books I've read, just enough world building to understand, a tasteful sprinkle of potential romance or strong new friendship. Not quite a feel of a nationwide/world rebellion but something similar that I can't quite find the words to explain.

Has potential to be bigger if done right and I would love to see it. Plus who knows if the real world would eventually become something like this because of how we treat the planet. I wanna go find a dystopian book to read now.

Bizarre futuristic drug gone wrong film

The synopsis and plot description sounded similar to Limitless (2011) but this film deals more so with a drug which they aren't certain of and in a seemingly dystopian future world. The entire plot revolves around the lead taking the entirety of this drug in which we don't know why. She didn't know what it was yet thought it was apparently a good idea to consume the entirety. Then was surprised that there were obvious side effects and bizarre happenings.

The film is somewhat engaging but moves at such a rapid pace and at times feels off. We don't necessarily know much about the lead character to truly cate, besides her being a model/ actress in commercials who seemingly was being cheated on by her virtues wort her best friend.

The action and overall tone feels like a teen novel but it's apparently an original concept by the director. The ending was also seemingly setup to set a sequel which came rather abruptly and left with questions unanswered. In the end, it's a film concept which we have seen a lot better in the last but there's still somewhat of an engaging factor.

Good use of assets..

I am guessing that the budget was not huge. But, the film had a quality look. The assets the film utilized were great. These being great script/story, great acting and great direction. I enjoyed this movie very much. There was no excess which led to a beneficial pace that was quite enjoyable. I suggest that you watch it. But, do not leave to go to the rest room on snack counter. You might miss some important piece of the story telling. We are witnessing a film maker with a bright future. This is Kelsey Egan's "Reservoir Dogs." Ya heard it here first! Grace Van Dien was perfectly cast and she rose to the occasion.

Way Better Than Expected

This film is distributed by Gravitas Ventures in the US. As soon as I saw the logo my hopes were diminished a bit- they are known for mostly low budget schlocky movies you would find on Tubi. But they do have a few bangers and happily this is one of them. Although the budget is low, they made so much with it. The world feels real and looks great. Don't let the low score on here fool you- it is currently 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, which I think is a much more appropriate score. Nor sure why it is getting such a low score here. Sci fi and action fans should enjoy this a lot. Its interesting right from the start so give it a shot.

What does it mean to save humanity? The Fix has a different answer

Kelsey Egan's, "The Fix" brilliantly picks up where Children of Men and District 9 left off. While both of these latter movies clearly rank in the top 5 sci-fi flicks of the past 30 years, at least for me, and they do an amazing job of scrutinizing the role of masculinity in our time, The Fix gives us a vision of humanity's future that non-cynically takes a more holistic approach and asks the question, "What does it mean to save humanity?" The answer is bold, decidedly non-Western, and thoroughly informed by indigenous world views. I was stunned by the brilliance of the ending and have already reached out for permission to use the movie in my upcoming senior seminar course. In Octavia Butler's, "Parable of the Sower" the protagonist, Lauren Olamina, leads her friends, family, and others through an apocalypse. As she does so, she composes a new bible she calls, "Earthseed." The central belief of this world view is that God is Change, and Change is God. Egan expresses a deep understanding of such a holistic world view and brings it to life beautifully in a movie I unabashedly recommend to everyone.
