Kevin Kreider On ‘Hello, Love, Again’ Role, Producing His Own Reality Shows & Creating Webtoons
Image
Kevin Kreider might be a multi-hyphenate, but he considers his role in Hello, Love, Again, now the Philippines’ highest-grossing film in history, as his first proper acting gig.

As of December 2, the film has grossed a total of 1.4B Philippine pesos ($23.9M) at the global box office.

After his breakout appearance in Netflix reality series Bling Empire, as well as a role in feature film Asian Persuasion, which he also executive produced, Kreider has been busy running his own production outfit, Asian Lead Love Stories (Alls) Production, while also launching a 50-episode webtoon and helping others develop reality shows. Kreider has also been cast in an upcoming American sci-fi thriller feature, as well as a Filipino medical drama.

However, it’s the magic of the cinema that makes him see Hello, Love, Again differently to his other on screen work. “The reason why I consider this my first proper acting...

‘Hello, Love, Again’ Review: Sequel to Beloved Filipino Romance Reunites Two Ex-Lovers in Post-covid Calgary
Image
Upon release in 2019, the romantic drama “Hello, Love, Goodbye” was the highest-grossing Philippine film of all time. (It was surpassed by the time-traveling romance “Rewind” earlier this year.) Directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana, the film chronicles the struggles of overseas Filipino worker Joy (Kathryn Bernardo) who wishes to earn enough money as a domestic helper in Hong Kong so she can move to Canada for better employment opportunities. She eventually meets the cocky but sweet bartender Ethan (Alden Richards) whose growing affection for Joy puts an end to his wayward womanizing. The two bond over their respective familial woes and professional dreams as expats with fluid conceptions of “home.” Before Joy departs for Canada, they confess their love and promise to meet again.

The film’s sequel, also helmed by Garcia-Sampana, fulfills the promise that Joy and Ethan made to each other, but predictably not without its share of complications. Primarily...

‘Red One’ tops North American box office on $32.1m, ‘Hello, Love, Again’ scores record opening for Filipino film
Image
Updated: Amazon MGM Studio’s big tentpole of the year Red One staggered into action over the weekend with a confirmed $32.1m number one North American debut.

While not a poor number in and of itself for an original film, the reported $250m price tag will raise eyebrows. Despite generally poor reviews, filmgoers gave it an A- Cinemascore, offering hope that if the family holiday season film plays into the holiday season, it might reach a decent number in North America to complement the $51.1m and counting international tally.

Dwayne Johnson stars as the head of security for Santa Claus (J.K. Simmons), who goes missing,...

Hello, Love, Again Review: A Masterclass in Emotional Storytelling
Image
As a touching follow-up, “Hello, Love, Again” picks up where Joy and Ethan’s love story left off in the busy streets of Hong Kong and moved to Canada’s cold, difficult environment. Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards will be back together in this 2024 movie, following the story that won people over in the 2019 hit “Hello, Love, Goodbye.”

We last saw Joy and Ethan part ways five years ago. In the new movie, they get back together during the Covid-19 outbreak, which has changed the world. Joy, who is now going by the name Marie, has made a hard road for herself in Canada. She is still working hard to become a nurse and figure out how to live as an immigrant. Ethan returns, bringing his dreams and disappointments, hoping to start over and maybe get back in touch with her.

Short Film Review: Toss Coin (2023) by Cathy Garcia-Sampana
Image
“Hong Kong in the Lens by Asian Directors” is a program supported by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, which includes a series of microfilms directed by renowned directors from Asia. “Toss Coin” is one of those titles, directed by Cathy Garcia-Sampana, best known for directing romantic comedy and family drama films produced and distributed by Star Cinema. Her films have frequently become some of the highest-grossing films in the Philippines, such as “The Hows of Us” (2018), and “Hello, Love, Goodbye” (2019)

Toss Coin is screening at Short Shorts Film Festival and Asia

The film begins in a very intriguing style, with real scenes from Hong Kong which are animated on top of the actual shots, in a rather impressive sequence which also includes subtle music and narration. The next scene has a man singing on the street in front of a rather big graffiti, while a woman is taking photos of him.

Netflix Added 29 New Movies And TV Shows This Week
With Christmas now behind us, and 2021 fast approaching, it’s a good time to review all the new content that’s been added to Netflix in the last week. Highlights include the period drama Bridgerton, as well as Charlie Brooker’s Death to 2020 special, and the George Clooney-directed The Midnight Sky. What’s been made available, then, to the platform in the last seven days?

Well, on the movie side, Brooker’s Death to 2020 adapts his Screenwipe review format for Netflix, with the likes of Hugh Grant, Stranger Things‘ Joe Keery, and Samuel L. Jackson popping up in a fictional take on this year’s events. Given the quality of the recent Black Mirror entries from Brooker, we have high expectations for this new one-off, even if the world’s apparently been too bleak for a fresh batch of episodes. Another big original release, meanwhile, is Robert Rodriguez’s We Can Be Heroes,...
