Avis à la une
The Director of "Qerq" is an artist who knew how to combine a great performance, with breathtaking settings, haunting soundtrack, in order to create works of art. "Qerq" is definitely one of his most outstanding works, a film that breathes with life, and suffers with passion. Neither, though, of the credited people can take as much credit for it, as Louis Cuschieri. Frida Cauchi, Ronald Saliba, Fabian Scerri de Carlo and last but not least Peter Borg delivers one of their best performances of their career. Frida Cauci has never been as stunning, or Peter Borg as Victor or Ronald Saliba as Dr Spiteri or Fabian Scerri de Carlo as David the good Samaritan ever left more memorable performances than these ones. I can say that Jason Cassar, composed one of the most unforgettable score ever in the Maltese cinematographic history. Even Paul Preca Trapani's cinematography, can rise above the vibration of genius. This is a slow film and for the good reasons. We are allowed to breathe the story, to give it momentum, and to judge it from within, as if the choices were not Grace, Angela or Felicity, but our own creation. And this is the brilliance of Cuschieri's direction. The story transcends time and space, and it melts within the triviality of our life. Beyond it, we are left with nothing but love, pure and blindingly real.
In all honesty I was somewhat reluctant to go to the cinema and watch a 133min. Maltese movie entitled Qerq. But having heard good comments from friends I decided to give it a go. To my astounding surprise I found myself engulfed in the intriguing story and before I knew it over 2hours flew by as if they where a few minutes.
I must admit hats off to the writer, director and brilliant performance by all the actors. Not omitting the technical crew aspect where upon it rivaled an international movie.I must say the story is wound very well mixing emotion, suspense, mystery and action in the correct pro otions that make Qerq a rewarding and entertaining feature well worth the money. The actors main performance superseded my expectations and enhanced by excellent music moved me during those emotional scenes.
This could only be achieved by excellent writing and direction, compliments to Louis Cuschieri. Keep it up.

Can't tell you exactly why this film caught the imaginations of so many, it probably differs for the emotional story. But this was a winner of a film in a style of its own. It was fantastic, true enough but it addressed many contemporary issues with a skill seldom seen in cinema. The love of a mother was believable, the acting was outstanding and the minor characters were generally engaging. This was a film for emotion and for those who believe in the power of love...not just between lovers but between family and those whose love spills over into actions. Good fought evil in the grimy real world as well as in fantastic battles against shadowy adversaries. Word of praise goes to the director and his technical crew for their magic task.
The characters are likable but unfortunately its plot is predictable. This script is neither realistic nor compelling. For instance when one is kidnapped no one says "Good Night" to the kidnapper. These mistakes can be eliminated by planning the plot seriously with an original and thought-provoking mind.
On the other hand, the special effects were incredibly stunning filmed with a breath-taking photography. The direction was totally magnificent. This is seen from how the powerful actors react and also, from the impressive and even tricky use of camera especially with the use of the green screen.
Taking everything into one account, "Qerq" is definitely a film worth seeing due to the talented cast (especially Peter Borg) and the stimulating music. It shows the very best of the Maltese talent.

It's truly interesting to see how Qerq went from being one of the most beloved films. I think this is a very simple story that happens to operate at a strictly emotional level. Those art-conscious movie viewers hoping to be stimulated at an intellectual level while watching a movie, will never understand the appeal of a movie of this type. Although I think that this movie could be considered an artistic triumph, and the story continues to hit a chord with most viewers, and that kind of achievement cannot be easily dismissed. I think Frida Cauchi is really the best, but Maria Farrugia is merely adequate. Together in their scenes were great, which helps Farrugia look better than what she actually is. I loved character actors Fabian Scerri de Carlo Ronald Saliba and Peter Borg. They deserve some credit for giving us such a highly performance. At last but not least I can say that Qerq hits all the right emotional buttons, and although I'm not one to usually cry over films, this one certainly had me in tears.
