Little Princess is shown on Ch5's Milkshake in the mornings and keeps the little ones occupied at that busy time in the morning. There is now a DVD out which, as 'The Guardian' puts it "is a godsend to parents" and it is! The Tony Ross books are great but this series has built on the strong legacy and modernised this traditional cartoon. Jane Horrocks is the voice of Little Princess and is approachable, lovable and tempestuous. She plays her as a typical 4 year old who throws tantrums. The difference is that the strong unit of friends and family surrounding Little Princess teach her that tantrums aren't the answer and to look for alternative solutions. Many parents have succeeded in potty training by using Little Princess as well as getting them to eat food that they 'don't like'. Julian Clary as the narrator is an inspired choice, as his child like view of the world, indicated by his voice, makes him the ideal person for Little Princess to bounce ideas from. I, amongst many, hope that another series is commissioned.
Little princess Is brilliant it's the only programme my little boy watches and he goes nuts for the theme tune. The actors who do the voices are what make it watchable for me and my wife, in particular Julian Clary Is hilarious. It's just a shame they haven't made more series as I seem to watch the same ones over and over again, a bit like faulty towers. I've seen some really negative reviews about the little princess but I think they must have a screw loose. I can't recommend this highly enough.
Everything is very lovely. Sounds, characters, stories, everything.
My five-year-old niece loves this series and I sometimes watch it with her. The little princess has childish honesty and learns her moral lessons at the end of each episode, no matter what. The message of the story is perfectly understandable to a five-year-old, and eventually a child can learn a lot from it.

I was doubtful about this as my children loved the books but I actually think the TV series is even better. The scripts are excellent and the voices brilliant. It can't be easy to adapt these slight (but rich)stories for TV yet it has been done brilliantly without any obvious padding. All the humour is still there with new delights added. The characters were particularly well drawn. I was worried that the Princess would seem simply spoilt but the magic of her lovable egotism is retained. The voices are perfect. I watched with a sigh of relief. It is a rare show that parents and children can both watch with genuine enjoyment. This is such a show.
Little Princess is a lovely wee show that kids will enjoy, probably as much as my two do. Princess seems to be your average 4-5 year old with the typical self-absorption you find in that age group. Her parents, the lovely down-to-earth king and queen (who wears her crown over a head scarf), are not afraid to say 'no' to their daughter and usually find a way to turn her odd demands into a learning experience. The show teaches without lecturing and is entertaining. It's also easy for a parent to listen to without sending them completely barmy like many other children's programmes. Julian Clary is a wonderful narrator and Jane Horrocks makes a fantastic Princess (I've found the broad accent does require some explaining to my littlies who are Aussies and not used to it).
On the whole, Little Princess seems to be a nice return to the near-innocence (and I stress 'near') of kiddies' shows from 20-odd years ago.

- AnecdotesProducer Ian McCue went on to produce Thomas et ses amis (1984). Little Princess voice actors Colin McFarlane and Maggie Ollerenshaw, as well as writers Dan Wicksman, Lee Pressman and Dave Ingham have also contributed to Thomas & Friends (on that show Colin McFarlane voices Beresford and Bulgy while Maggie Ollerenshaw voices Henrietta). Also, background artist Loraine Marshall went on to provide additional illustrations for the Mr. Perkins' Storytime segments and recording engineer Chris Renshaw took over as the main composer for the series during the twentieth season.
