I guess if you care about how female characters look and not so much about the story ... you might find something here that others are not. But anyone else will not really be smitten (sorry for the pun) or enticed (and that one) by the movie overall speaking.
Having said that, I guess you can see some women empowerment in this, if you really want to. But overall it really isn't that good. There is some blood and some action, but don't expect too much from that either ...

All the "excellent" reviews on this film are clearly fake.
I caught this while on vacation in LA out of curiosity, as I've never seen a mainstream Filipino movie before. The Western names on most of the movie poster credits seem to indicate that it might be OK.
Boy, was I wrong.
Biggest pile of poorly written/acted/cast sh*t I've ever seen in my life. And in bad fake 3D!
After a quick google, the director appears to be some rich idiot banker with too much money on his hands and fancied being a "director".
It turns out that the theaters this film was only being shown in are:
ALSO OWNED BY HIM.
If there's any justice, the film negative should be burned and recycled into something useful, like a toilet roll holder.

Please don't waste your time watching this very, very, very bad movie. It's honestly the worst movie I've ever seen. What a waste! The acting is horrible, the story doesn't make any sense, the cinematography and the editing suck big time. The music is great, and that's the only positive comment I'm going to make. Why do people get money to make this film? It doesn't make any sense. Whoever made this film has clearly not a clue of filmmaking. It feels like a bunch of film students got together and decided to do a film. Well, that's not fair. Film students would do much better films, guaranteed. Deep Gold - what a joke. I want my money back!

Action! Treasure! Bikinis! Water! On the surface, Deep Gold promises the potential viewer an action-packed film that you'll love so much, you'll keep coming back to see it again and again. The problem with promising something huge is that it's hard to deliver on that promise, and Deep Gold certainly failed to deliver.
The main reason I'm writing this review is because this film was awful enough to be memorable as one of the only movies I ever recall throwing away immediately after watching. Deep Gold seems like it might be a decent movie when you start watching it, but the way in which the plot progresses is simply uninteresting. There isn't anything about the characters that makes them stand out. The words "lackluster" and "generic" keep coming to mind even as I write this, and it's true: you've seen this same basic story repeated many times over in much more exciting movies. The worst part is that the action sequences are poorly cut, poorly choreographed, and aren't as enjoyable as they seem to believe they are. They're also sometimes awkward and annoying, but the music is rapid and intense, leading to a bizarre, unpleasant feeling of dissonance that is difficult to explain.
I will admit that there are a few visually interesting aspects, particularly since it was shot in the Philippines. There are plenty of boats and other water-related things that a land-locked soul might enjoy seeing, and also some shots in mountains and forests that look different from what we're used to seeing in many Hollywood productions. Reasonably attractive women in bathing suits, shiny black pants, and light clothing are included as an attempt at providing some mild titillation. Unfortunately, this "eye candy" doesn't save Deep Gold from its problems.
What really irked me after being disappointed enough to toss the film directly into the trash can was coming to IMDb out of curiosity and seeing a lot of highly rated reviews. They couldn't sound more like paid shill reviews if they tried. I am surprised that they are still up as of December 2015.
This is NOT a film that you're going to enjoy enough to want to watch twice, but you might want to watch it once just to increase your appreciation of other (better) films, or perhaps if you have a serious thing for Filipino ladies in films and don't care about the plot.

I don't know what to start off with... I have to say that I registered on IMDb just to review this POS movie.
I've watched plenty of bad movies but haven't seen this bad ever. I had to stop watching half way. Clearly this has been done by a rich guy with too much money on his hands, with no skills at all on directing etc. I even tried to watch this thinking it was a bad comedy movie, but it was just too much. Making a review of the movie is very hard when it's so sh*t. One word is enough to describe the movie and you know what that word is. OK, if you like to fall asleep in a very short time, then this is perfect movie for you.
All those reviews with more than one star must be scam.
Do not bother to watch this.

I didn't pay to watch this movie but i felt like they owed me money after watching this.
i want 2 hours of my life back.
and FYI guys, this movie is not a Filipino movie. it was shot in the Philippines which is why the scenery is not a disappointment,
but the director, writer and producer is a crappy German.
can you believe that this movie was shot for more than 2 years? complete waste of time, money and energy!

This is without a doubt the single worst movie I have ever seen and been part of. I worked for the short-man-syndrome extraordinaire, Mickmeister (as he likes to call himself).
He loves himself so much that he puts himself into his own "art" that he funds on his own (because he has too much money and no one wants their own names connected to him so they will never fund his "work"). He is the reason this whole movie is so exceptionally awful! Don't believe me? Look at this:
https://youtu.be/16xpd7bDBnA
I mean honestly, how big can your ego be?
Anyway, back to the movie. What a load of hogwash! EVERY other review on this site that has more than a 1-Star rating is obviously fake. I would rather watch my pet decompose before watching this again.

I didn't really know what I was getting myself into here when I picked up "Deep Gold" and decided to give it a view. I had somewhat expected it to be a treasure hunting movie of sorts.
Which it was, in a way...
"Deep Gold" was entertaining enough for what it turned out to be, which was a semi-low budget action thriller. Mind you, there are far, far better movies in the genre out there. I managed to sit through "Deep Gold" to the end, and it should be said that the movie wasn't actually boring. But on the other hand, it wasn't a masterpiece either.
The movie was shot in the Philippines, but somehow it eluded me why they spoke English and not Tagalog, the main dialect of the Philippines, or Cebuano, the local dialect spoken in the Cebu area where the movie was taking place. To reach out to a wider audience perhaps, I can only speculate. However, it felt forced and the movie seemed to lose some of its authenticity by having the Filipino and Filipina performers speak English.
While "Deep Gold" hardly was a memorable movie, and one that I am sure will be obliterated from my memory in less than 48 hours, then it was still an enjoyable enough movie if you enjoy B-movies - which I happen to do. Then again, I am all for giving every movie a chance.
Bebe Pham, playing Amy Sanchez, carried the movie quite well almost singlehandedly. So that was quite an accomplishment and testament to her acting talent and performance.
"Deep Gold" is, however, not the type of movie that will make it around for a second viewing, because the movie just didn't have that much appeal or that much of a plot and storyline to support more than a single viewing.
I am rating "Deep Gold" five out of ten stars.

My wife and I saw Deep Gold over the weekend at the Crest Theater in LA. Being an independent film, you never know what to expect. We were particularly intrigued to learn that it was both an action film as well as a 3D film. (Perhaps the first independent 3D feature film ever made.) Both action and 3D are very ambitious attributes for they typically exceed the independent film budget. The script had some unexpected twists and turns that kept the story going. To be fair, it also had some minor flaws, but overall who cares when the screen is filled with attractive women and stunning views. Personally I think I would have enjoyed the movie more if it were not in 3D, but that is personal preference. Some of the actors were better then others, but overall way better then the average independent film. Michael Gleissner, who also wrote and directed the film, made a surprisingly good villain. The soundtrack was exceptional, plenty of action scenes, solid plot, and beautiful footage. Deep Gold easily exceeded our expectations, and unlike almost every major studio feature films today, Deep Gold never dragged and we were never bored. In summary, Deep Gold is a perfect film for a mindless weekend escape.

Having followed the progress of Deep Gold (the film shot for almost 3 years), the result is kind of a mixed bag. Overall, I liked the action scenes, and the story is relatively OK (for an action/b-movie). The acting of villain Michael Gleissner is surprisingly good (given that he is the director), so is the acting of Jaymee Ong and Laury Prudent (I was not sold on the lead, Bebe Pham). The story drags on in the beginning, but I liked the comic relief that the "harbor master" (Kersten Hui) provided.
The underwater action scenes provided great action, but they were too dark and often lacked details. The cinematography did not seem to have consistency throughout the film (it seems like over the long shooting time, several cinematographers worked on the film).
The closing titles are interrupted with an "interview with the mayor", summarizing what has happened ... totally unnecessary and annoying.

Great job on the underwater diving scenes and car chase! There were many exciting scenes that kept me glued to my seat. I really like how this film featured the beautiful island of Cebu, Philippines! Nice shots on the scenic view which showcased the pristine blue waters around the island. It made me want to book a ticket to the Philippines.I didn't know any of the actors. One did stand out. Kudos to Jaymee Ong for a wonderful performance. Her acting was awesome and natural. Some of the actors though should take up acting lessons.
Overall, the movie was entertaining. Cool soundtrack. I wouldn't mind buying the DVD to keep. Congratulations to the cast and crew.

Out of all the 3D films I've seen this year, DEEP GOLD was really cool and well done. I didn't lift my glasses once like I did when I saw Last Airbender or Clash of the Titans.
It's a total genre driven action flick! Surprisingly good performances from Michael Gleissner, Jaymee Ong, Amelia Jackson-Grey and the smoking' hot Laury Prudent.
There's something old school about the movie I really dug. I'm not sure if that was intended, but I was into it.
I saw the ads and saw the billboards and even though I didn't know any of the actors I wanted to check it out and I'm glad I did.
It's got a James Bond lite type of feel with the locations and Philippine army storyline surrounding the shipment of gold. But it doesn't have a James Bond macho hero, it's got two Asian-American actresses (bebe Pham and Jaymee Ong) as the leads and it had a little Thelma and Louise (women against the world) thing going on which I also liked.

I didn't know what movie I wanted to see this past weekend, but after watching the trailer, I decided to check out deep gold. I have to say that I'm really surprised how good this movie was. I didn't know any of the actors or really that much about the storyline, but I was totally surprised, the movie ended up being awesome! Crazy car chase, and funny dialogue was on point. The islands they filmed on looked amazing, and added such a great backdrop.
Also, I was super surprised that this movie was in 3D. I only thought mega studios like Sony or Warner Brothers popped these out. It was refreshing to see a smaller studio completing with the Hollywood big guns.
Great weekend choice.

The movie was quite entertaining, and the underwater action scenes were quite well done, but the CGI in certain scenes was definitely not at the quality level of the live action scenes (which were quite acceptable).
Most enjoyable was the whit and comic relief some of the supporting characters provided. What I found quite bothering is the language mix of actors - some of them speaking perfect American English, some heavy local accents, that made little sense to me.
The 3D was quite acceptable, although in some scenes it was clear that it was done later and the filmmakers did not shoot the film in 3D.

Deep Gold is an easy-to-enjoy movie that is full of fun explosions, great diving scenes and gorgeous shots of paradise.
The fun part is that it's in 3D. Not going to spoil the movie for anyone but if you are a fan of sexy Bebe Pham, you have to watch this: 3D BEBE in action: on land, diving, swimming, fighting (underwater). It's pretty cool.
Lots of comical moments mixed in with violence and suspense. Not too much gore but enough not to bore. It's an overall fun movie to watch: admire the scenes, laugh at the comical relief, and don't forget to breathe when Bebe's underwater.

For those of you who don't know the elegant and fabulous Bebe Pham - Vietnamese Supermodel Extraordinaire, this was her US debut. The suspense thriller takes place on the beautiful islands of Philippines. The movie started off a little slow but picked up speed, action and intrigue as the film progressed. I didn't notice I was holding my breath during the underwater fight scene! Mick Gleissner and Amelia Jackson Gray did a great job in their roles. Bebe could use a little coaching in the acting. At first I didn't care about her, but I did warm up to her her sister, played by Jaymee Ong. But this is more of an action film and I liked the underwater scenes in 3D.
This movie was very entertaining, an awesome lighthearted action flick.
And can I just mention how amazingly hot the two main characters were!? Very easy on the eyes ;)
I definitely recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys the high-speed car chase and gun fights.
The director did a superb job uniting action with subtle humor.
The entire audience was chuckling and gasping through the whole movie!
We all had a great time.
Loved it.
Go watch it now!

Just saw Deep Gold and gotta say was utterly taken by surprise in this B-movie extravaganza!
Starring one super-hot Asian chick, and several action-packed 3D scenes - this film is an impressive statement from upcoming director - Michael Gleissner.
The cinematography is excellent, scenery fantastic, together with some Hollywood grade sound design and great visual effects - it's really a must see for this weekend!
Oh..and did I mention it's in 3D! ;)

The story had a surprising amount of intrigue in it. The setting in which the movie was shot was quite enjoyable. Beautiful places mixed with just the right amount of beautiful faces. The characters seemed to fit their roles appropriately. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the character played by Michael Gleissner, which added a flavor to the movie that made it more entertaining, it was a personality that brought more attention even if every part of the movie wasn't as captivating. In the end, the movie was entertaining and that is what you pay for. It took you to another place and was accentuated by the 3-D effect. Would recommend it to others!
