Deltora Quest is my favourite book series so I was quite excited when this was released but I was so disappointed. It is overly cutesy and dumbed down even by the standards of children's media. I am certain that as a child, you must have encountered something once that made you go, "do these creators think that children are complete idiots?" This TV show is one of those things.
Being true to a book is a stupid reason to like or hate a show. What is great for the medium of a book doesn't mean it translates well to the media of screen.
Anyway, the problem with this show isn't that it is an anime either (saw naive reviews written from a disdain of anime).
The problem with this is clearly the director: -this is very slow paced, boring quite a bit in every way (angles, dialogue delivery, scene coverage, many things) -a lot of this series is mind-numbingly dumb, always spoon-feeding us, characters being extremely stupid and speaking exposition, seemingly taking forever to deduce and then speak openly about something that we -- the audience -- don't need to be told. Maybe they think children are stupid? -I'm not sure I like the random narrator's voice every now and then either, or the cheesy flashbacks. But it's because the pacing is so slow and boring too. -The character's are winy and have a lot of horrible qualities and seem to contain zero critical thinking skills. Modern audiences rquire non-retarted main characters.
Seriously, this needs to be remade by Netflix and a modern anime studio with modern dialogue and scene coverage.
Books are books. TV is tv. Deal with it.

when i heard that deltora quest was being made as an anime i was a bit worried, but its actually pretty good.
while the anime makes some small changes (most noticeably the start) the dialogue and the story are pretty much unchanged. if i had something to complain about it would be that it bothers me that one of the main characters who has been living in the forest all her life doesn't have clothes that would suggest that. anyway bassicly if you enjoy anime (even a bit) and you like deltora quest then this is worth spending your time and money on. if you hate anime or if you think your not going to like it then you should try and have a look at it before you spend money on it.
its not perfect but its pretty enjoyable

I have to say first of all that I am NOT a fan of anime in any form. That being said, Deltora Quest is one of my favourite book series. When I heard that there was finally going to be a TV adaptation made, I had to watch it, even though it was anime.
While this series may be fairly true to the books in content, they are made in the typical anime style of OTT voices and cruddy sound effects. And don't get me started on the animation style. Fans of both anime and Deltora Quest will like this series, but fans of only DQ may find it a bit lacking in quality.
The only reason Jennifer Rowe sold the rights to OLM is because they were the only ones who assured her that they would not change the content in the series, however if they made the series like "Legend of the Seeker" (I mean production value-wise) it would be much better.
For my views on how it should be done, check here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0926230/board/nest/85725404

As someone who enjoyed these books when she was young I was ecstatic to find it had been made into an anime! While lots of adaptations from books are unfaithful, I was excited to find the same characters I adored and if not identical dialogue to the book I fell in love with.
Leif, a blacksmiths son, together with Barda and Jasmine are on a journey to rid Deltora of the evil Shadow Lord who controls all the cities and destroys happiness. To do this they must locate the seven magical stones that will overpower and destroy the Shadow lord. But the journey is perilous and will take them to the farthest reaches of Deltora to fight grizzly servants of the Shadow lord who are in possession of the stones.
Even people who have not read the book will find this series very enjoyable if they usually enjoy fantasy books or anime : )
