Worst Episode Every

All kinds of contrived bologna! Steve Allen and Jayne Meadows are just plain awful. A fire at the awards ceremony. I don't have much to say. Just a bunch of mindless wrapping up of things we aren't interested in anyway. I wonder if the last episode of the series has anything going for it.

The Second To Last Episode

Sadly, this is the next to last episode of this excellent series, which I have enjoyed from the very first episode to the very last one. This is the third or fourth viewing of the series and it continues to remain fresh. Having come from a medical background, the medical science appears to be solid and logical. The performance of the main and guest cast are consistently great. I plan on watching it again in a year or two if it is still available.

One reviewer who has commented on each and every episode has found the final season lacking. In his review of this episode he writes "Steve Allen and Jayne Meadows are just plain awful," which is not the case. He continues "Just a bunch of mindless wrapping up of things we aren't interested in anyway. I wonder if the last episode of the series has anything going for it." Why bother watching this series if you dislike it so much?

Anecdotes
The episode is named for St. Elsewhere Unit Production Manager Abby Singer, who worked as a production manager, producer, and director in television and film from the 1950s through the 1990s. His name had, by 1988, been coined in Hollywood in the phrase, "Abby Singer shot" describing the second-to-last shot of a day of filming, or of a film itself. "The Abby Singer Show", when filmed, was known to be the penultimate episode of St. Elsewhere.

Gaffes
While Dr. Gideon is starting to say the name of the Doctor of the Year Award winner, the fire alarm sounds and no one can hear the name he says. This happens a second time. Then, while the alarm continues, Gideon makes an announcement that the building is being evacuated and this time everyone can hear him.
