The Other Woman

I have seen all the Blondie and Dagwood films and noticed that in this TV episode, it repeats a very bad theme found in a few of the films....the notion that Dagwood would cheat on his family. Considering the sort of character he is, this is ridiculous. What is disturbing, however, is that although Dagwood is innocent, Blondie is exceptionally cruel and nasty....which just doesn't fit in with the spirit of the franchise.

Dagwood is eating lunch during a workday. He eats at a table with an old lady, the town librarian. A little brat sees this and then tells Cookie that Dagwood is cheating on Blondie(???). Without doing anything to confirm this, Blondie believes a 7 year-old's accusation and soon she gives Dagwood the cold shoulder. He never is given a chance to defend himself and she's just a total B.....well, you get the point. The bottom line is that the Blondie films and TV show are supposed to be sweet...and this episode is anything but sweet! Worth skipping.

Dagwood is tasked with a project at work that prevents him from coming home for lunch. Instead, he eats in the cafeteria where a nice elderly woman (Hallene Hill) sits down in the crowded room to share a table. Cookie's little boyfriend Foghorn (George Wilson) paints a less innocent picture of a woman with perfume that upsets Cookie. She tells Blondie who confides in her best friend Harriet Woodley (Hollis Irving). Dagwood returns home to a cold reception from everyone, including the dogs. Dagwood can't understand the accusation. Mr. Dithers gives Dagwood more pressing work and he eats at the cafeteria where once again he is joined by the elderly woman. Foghorn sees them once again and Blondie makes him show her the woman he says works at the library. When they arrive Blondie doesn't pay any attention to the elderly woman, the librarian Miss Peabody, but the blonde bombshell working beside her. Now the heat is really on Dagwood.
