The Last Child of the Sixties

This short film was very funny, I have not seen it for 17+ years and it has clearly left a lasting impression.

It was the highlight of BBC2s short film season and I would stay up in the hope it would be shown.

Lovers of the office, Alan Partridge, Peep show and Armando Iannuccis work enjoy this and I think it should be avaliable to view online as I believe it would be enjoyed by a cult following.

Yes I can aggree that it's humour has a lot of similarities to some of the shows listed above but I saw enough originality in the storyline and the gags that it stands on its own. I would love to quote them back and forth with my friends but none of them even know this piece of work exists. So this is an apeal to the rights holders to release this film to the public.

This is a mockumentary featuring Gary who was we are led to believe the last child to be born in the 1960s . Strange that this would make Gary 35 years old because he appears considerably older , in fact he looks more like 45 ! But this is probably down to him being an underachiever . As Beck once said I'm a loser baby so why don't you kill me , a lyric that could certainly apply to Gary . He's a loser all right . he works as a store room supervisor and lives on his own since his previous partner moved out - To New Zealand in fact and Gary is very excited to be taking part in some speed dating

Simon Ludders short film is nothing new . It's similar in concept and tone to the likes of THE OFFICE and THE WINGNUT TAPES but Ludders script does capture some of the art of comic timing and is typical of some crude British humour

Gary is unique. Being born near midnight on 31st December 1969, he is officially the last child born in the sixties. This documentary joins up with as part of a rolling documentary to see where, at the age of 35, his life has brought him. We join him where he has separated from his last partner and is now living alone in Wales.

Although it is hardly unique, this short film will appeal to those who enjoyed The Office or various mockumentaries type films made by the BBC recently. Like the former, we focus on one man who is really a very small little man and the camera just lets him hang himself just like David Brent himself. However for every point it loses in the originality stakes, it scores in the laughs category. Gary (writer, director and producer Ludders) does lots of little things that reveal to be a very sad sack but, like Brent, his words paint him as a much grander person altogether and it is the contrast between his vision and reality that is funny. It works very well and, although I wasn't rolling, I was responding to the action with the odd laugh, "ugh" or moment of pity; all of which were enough to make me glad I watched it.

Overall nothing original but it is a nice little short that will appeal to fans of The Office and such.
