The Warriors Star David Harris Dies at 75
Image
Actor David Harris, perhaps best known for his role in The Warriors, has passed away. He was 75 years old.

The New York Times has broken the news that Harris died on Friday at his home in New York City. His daughter, Davina Harris, confirmed the news, sharing that her father died due to cancer. No additional details were revealed related to the actor's passing.

Born on June 18, 1949, Harris made his professional acting debut in the 19776 TV movie Judge Horton and the Scottsboro Boys. After following this up with roles in the TV film Secret Service and an episode of Kojack, Harris took on his first major feature film role in 1979's The Warriors. In the Walter Hill-helmed film, which is based on Sol Yurick's book of the same name, a group called The Warriors becomes pursued by rival factions after they're framed for the killing of a respected gang leader.

The Denzel Washington Movie With 89% On Rt That Turned Him Into A "Movie Star," According To Roger Ebert
Image
Today, Denzel Washington is considered to be a certified movie star, yet some opinions may differ on when exactly the actor became so famous. Washington's career began in the 1980s, when he earned a recurring role in the medical drama, St. Elsewhere. Just a few years later, he started taking on movie roles in major projects like Glory, Malcolm X, and Training Day. Nowadays, Washington is also known for the Equalizer franchise and his upcoming historical epic, Gladiator II. However, not many people are able to pinpoint the moment when Washington became a household name.

Many different arguments could be made about when Washington became a true movie star. Some may say that Washington's first Academy Award-nominated role for 1987's Cry Freedom was the turning point for the actor. Others may cite his highest-grossing movie, American Gangster, as a particularly notable time in his career. His most memorable roles...

Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 12 Review: With Only Seven Episodes Left, Every Moment Counts
Image
It happens at least once a season, but with only seven episodes left I didn’t have patience for Danny’s guest partner.

Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 12 sidelined Baez in favor of a snobby British investigator who insisted Danny work with him to catch a gunrunner, while Jamie had the goofiest case he’s had in a while.

However, Frank and Erin demonstrated yet again that they take their jobs seriously, and their integrity more than made up for the silliness elsewhere.

(Courtesy of CBS) Danny’s Guest Partner On Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 12 Was One Of The Most Annoying Temporary Characters In Blue Bloods History

I’ve never been a fan of these guest partner episodes, which tend to follow the formula of Baez being sidelined in favor of some guy Danny finds annoying, only for the two to develop mutual respect before the case ends.

15 Great Psychological Horror Films on Streaming Right Now
Image
What’s the difference between a psychological horror and a psychological thriller?

Well, it could be as simple as comparing the style of Stanley Kubrick to that of David Fincher. One is in love with emotional turmoil, and the other paints vivid images of realistic terror.

Psychological horror is not about catch and release — the formula of most horror thrillers. Most horror films you can think of fall into the cozy genres of suspense thriller (Silence of the Lambs), psychological thriller (Jacob’s Ladder), or slasher (The Strangers).

(Warner Bros. (Max screenshot))

You’re outrunning Art the Clown, Michael Myers, or Freddy Krueger when you watch a thriller. When you watch a psychological thriller, you’re figuring out a mystery in real time with the protagonist.

You’re figuring out the horrible truth of your fate, like Grace in The Others, or uncovering a diabolical plot, like in Chris in Get Out.

The Equalizer Season 5 Episode 1 Review: The Lost Ones
Image
The Equalizer, featuring Queen Latifah as our favorite crime-fighting vigilante, has returned in its fifth season.

The season opener was bittersweet, but it didn’t waste any time filling us in on what has been happening with our favorite characters.

Will Robyn and Dante find their way back to one another? Is Mel gone for good? Will Miles be sticking around? Is Robyn leaving her team behind?

(Michael Greenberg/CBS)

The Equalizer Season 4 finale left us with many questions. The new season picks up months later, and within minutes of the episode, we already know what we’re working with — a broken team and a lot of turmoil!

It was a tough episode to watch, as we learned that Mel is really done with the team for now. She is working on her mental health. And as she should after we’ve seen Mel like never before — a hysterical mess.

The Equalizer Season 6: Will It Happen? Everything We Know
Image
CBS' remake of The Equalizer is quickly becoming one of the network's premiere primetime series, but will the Queen Latifah-led action adventure score a season 6? Loosely based on the eponymous series from the '80s, The Equalizer follows Robyn McCall, a woman living in New York City who uses the skills she acquired in her shady past to help out those in the neighborhood who have nowhere else to turn. Deftly mixing action and drama, Latifah's turn as The Equalizer humanizes the original concept, and the series has built a compelling narrative for Robyn across five seasons so far.

Comparisons to the Denzel Washington Equalizer film series were inevitable, but CBS' version beats the movies in several ways, including its backstory. Latifah's McCall is quippy and fun, and though there are serious topics, the show is somewhat more lighthearted than its predecessors. That's not to say drama is minimized,...

What's on TV tonight, Oct. 20?
Image
Fall TV is almost back completely in order with tonight’s premiere. Here’s everything to watch on Sunday, Oct. 20 across the big five broadcast networks.

Yes, it is all about the premiere of The Equalizer season 5. It’s a premiere we have all been waiting for, as we love to see Queen Latifah back in the action. As much as I’m salty about CBS cancelling one particular show (save NCIS: Hawaii!), I will support these female-led shows like The Equalizer, Matlock, and Elsbeth with everything I have.

More Tracker, Hocus Pocus, and much more

For ABC, Sundays have become about family movies, and this week it’s Hocus Pocus. This is the original movie, which saw NCIS’s Sean Murray as Thackary Binks. Poor Binks! We see three witches who want to be young forever, but that meals stealing the lives of children. Well, in 1693, the townspeople won’t let witches live.

Three Women Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Climax
Image
In Three Women, Season 1 Episode 6, all three leading ladies—Lina, Sloane, and Maggie—strived to find happiness and freedom.

This installment featured some raw and sexy lovemaking scenes and romantic drama, which is a huge plus.

However, returning to showcasing all three stories simultaneously did not work since it switched to another arc as soon as I began to invest in one.

(Courtesy of Starz)

The general theme of this episode was about love, sex, and orgasms, ranging from an innocent girl’s first time to learning how to feel cherished again.

Can A Marriage Survive a Partner Like Will?

I love Sloane and Will’s chemistry, but it’s difficult to like her sometimes when Richard is such a devoted husband. She wants to have her cake and eat it, too.

Richard adored her, so he changed his mind after seeing how Will transformed their backyard into a winter wonderland for a sledding party.

One Of Denzel Washington's Most Beloved Films Has A Surprisingly Low Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
As Marty McFly once prophetically claimed after his game-changing appearance at 1955's Enchantment Under the Sea dance, "I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it." This phrase pretty perfectly sums up the phenomenon of reappraisal in the arts, especially cinema. Whether a film is truly something pioneering and ahead of its time, or whether it's just lost in the shuffle due to extenuating circumstances, the (relative) immortality of movies allows them to be periodically rediscovered and newly appreciated for what they are, once removed from the weight of expectation and other contemporary factors. This doesn't just happen to films that fly under the radar, either; even the most high-profile releases, movies featuring A-list megastars made by big name directors, can initially receive a tepid response only to become bonafide classics years, perhaps even decades, later. For examples of this, just take a...

Why Chris Noth's William Bishop Left The Equalizer
Image
When Chris Noth appeared in the January 2, 2022, episode of The Equalizer titled "Separated," it was, ironically, for the last time. Noth was fired from the series soon afterward following a series of accusations of sexual assault that The Hollywood Reporter unearthed.

In the aftermath of these shocking revelations, Chris Noth vehemently denied the accusations made against him, but it was too little, too late. CBS chose to have the character of William Bishop written off The Equalizer before the end of its Second Season. Here's how and why the series moved on from Chris Noth.

Related The Equalizer Is a Bland But Watchable Crime Drama Reboot

Aside from a modern tech angle and a couple of references to racial justice, The Equalizer's entire pilot episode couldve come right out of the '80s.

The Magnificent Seven's Historical Inaccuracies Didn't Stop It Succeeding
Image
The great Denzel Washington has only starred in one Western movie during his illustrious acting career, Antoine Fuqua's 2016 version of The Magnificent Seven, a star-studded remake of the 1960 movie starring Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen. Of course, both films are inspired by legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa's highly influential 1954 action movie Seven Samurai.

In translating the story from the East to the West, several differences between the Samurai film and the Western movie stand out, most notably regarding the accuracy of The Magnificent Seven's cinematic tropes and tenets set along the American frontier. Fortunately, Denzel Washington is such a magnetic draw that the glaring inaccuracies of the movie, cited by historian Michael Grauer via Business Insider, did harm the movie's success at the box office or on streaming.

Ridley Scott Made A Bold Promise About Gladiator 2, But Can He Deliver?
Image
Ridley Scott is inarguably one of our greatest living filmmakers. From sci-fi masterpieces such as "Blade Runner" to underrated recent dramas such as "All the Money in the World," the man hasn't lost a step despite being well into his 80s. But is it possible that Scott just made the greatest film of his illustrious career? That may well be the case, if Scott's assessment of his own work means anything, anyhow. Per the filmmaker, his upcoming sequel "Gladiator II" may well be the best thing he's ever done.

In a recent interview with Empire, the director discussed his forthcoming sequel to the 2000 historical epic "Gladiator," which went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars. Unafraid to set expectations rather high, Scott made a pretty bold claim. "It's the best thing I've ever made," he boldly told the outlet. "One of the best things. I've made a few good 'uns,...

All 10 Movies & Shows Where Pedro Pascal Plays A Dad, Ranked
Image
Though his fatherly roles go back many years, Pedro Pascal has become his own kind of archetype when it comes to playing a dad in Hollywood. After making his big break as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones in 2014, Pascal has only continued to rise in fame more and more, which has placed many exciting opportunities before him. Following his debut as the Star Wars father and titular character of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin, most of these opportunities see Pascal playing a dad - usually, a single dad who's reluctantly agreed to protect someone.

While all of these dad roles that Pascal plays are quite different from one another, this list is ranked based on how good of a father these characters really are. It's worth noting that there are some dad roles Pascal previously played that aren't included, only because they are brief appearances made in network TV shows.

Denzel Washington's 5 Most Rewatchable Movies, Ranked Worst To Best
Image
It wouldn't be a stretch to call Denzel Washington the Goat. He's one of our last working movie stars, a man that can get butts into movie theater seats without even lifting a finger. You'd be hard-pressed to find a bad performance from the actor either: whether it's a quiet courtroom drama, a zany thriller with a sci-fi edge, or an all-out action blockbuster, Washington is often the best part of any film he's in. That said, some of his films carry more rewatch value than others. "Malcolm X" is obviously Washington's greatest work, but the three-hour epic isn't the kind of story you're tuning into again and again.

Ironically, Washington's most rewatchable films might be the ones we take the most for granted. Some are formulaic revenge thrillers; others have become synonymous with Washington's brand. For one reason or another, though, they're the films we keep coming back to...

Daniel Day-Lewis’ Net Worth Pales in Front of Denzel Washington’s But He Still Doesn’t Need to Work a Day in His Life
Image
Very few actors in the industry can even dream of what Daniel Day-Lewis achieved in his career. The actor, often considered one of the greatest in the industry, has made a huge name for his detailed research behind every role. However, even after having 3 Oscars and numerous hits, his net worth is lower than most of his contemporaries including Denzel Washington.

Although Denzel Washington is only 2 years older than Daniel Day-Lewis, the latter’s net worth is not even close to the Equalizer star. With numerous box office hits, Washington has also been a commercially successful star. Interestingly, Day-Lewis, even after having such a low net worth, did not need work for 7 years before finally announcing his comeback in 2024.
