- Holly Parker: You set me up.
- Jan Lambert: Back so soon?
- Holly Parker: You made a huge fucking mistake.
- Jan Lambert: Did you really think that I didn't know that you were sleeping with him? I thought we agreed that sexual manipulation was my specialty?
- [first lines]
- Holly Parker: We're gonna be late!
- Jan Lambert: That's the plan.
- Holly Parker: Really? And why is that?
- Jan Lambert: *Because* we're young, beautiful women with high-paying jobs living in the greatest city in the world. People should wait for us.
- Holly Parker: [arriving home to soothe her jilted roommate] Tess? I'm so sorry, Tess. I didn't know until the party was over.
- Tess Kositch: [after a silence] We're friends, right?
- Holly Parker: Great friends.
- [sits down next to Tess on the couch]
- Tess Kositch: These people... Jan, David...
- [shakes her head]
- Tess Kositch: They're not your friends. They don't care about you.
- Holly Parker: Please forgive me, Tess. I was just *so busy* at the party, I just assumed you decided not to come.
- [shakes her head]
- Tess Kositch: Why? Because I'm so pathetic?
- Holly Parker: No! Of course not! What Jan did tonight, had nothing to do with you. She was just trying to hurt me by hurting you. It worked. I feel terrible.
- [gets idea:]
- Holly Parker: I owe you a night out.
- Tess Kositch: [after consideration] Maybe this weekend.
- Holly Parker: I have the perfect guy for you.
- Tess Kositch: I... haven't had much luck with men, Holly.
- Holly Parker: Well, maybe you just haven't found the right man.
- Tess Kositch: Men don't find me very attractive.
- Holly Parker: Oh, that's ridiculous, Tess. You're beautiful.
- Tess Kositch: There was this guy in high school... Chris Hammond. After what he did... I just couldn't trust anyone. I was...
- [shakes her head]
- Tess Kositch: so stupid. He never even talked to me before Elizabeth died. She was my best friend. She killed herself our junior year.
- Holly Parker: Oh, my God. I'm sorry, Tess.
- Tess Kositch: She was so beautiful. And fragile. We were inseparable when we were little. We did everything together. Until Chris came along. They went out for about a year. She said she loved him. Then he went off to college, and she never heard from him again. Her world just collapsed. She couldn't live with the pain of loving... and not being loved back.
- Jan Lambert: Did you ever really think that you were gonna get that promotion by setting up one of your fuck buddies
- [chuckles]
- Jan Lambert: as a new client?
- Holly Parker: He wasn't a fuck buddy.
- [nods]
- Holly Parker: I was in love with him.
