Avis à la une
This film was just shown in the London film festival and I must say what an excellent piece of cinematographic art it is. It is not just a nice story but it brilliantly portrays the female role as perceived in the supposedly modern Turkish society. Although the finale is nothing like something out of a fairy tale with a perfect ending, it definitely makes a mark and proves its point: the emancipation of women and how stereotypes, stigmas and even physical and psychological pressure and abuse cannot repress inner strength and joie de vivre as one could say.
I thought the movie was brilliantly interpreted and the comic references were certainly well put forward by both the director and the actresses. Well done.

This movie is about the different thoughts on life and incidents of two girls that are about to enter womanhood. Behiye is a character that does not accept the roles of ordinary woman and as a result she is rebellious. Handan is a girl that is having the trauma of a dissolved family and he needs and searches for love. Also, she does not have friend. The movie is about their passionate and unbalanced friendship. In my opinion, acting is a little bit hyperbolic and this fact made me harder to believe the story. Finally, it is good movie in illuminating us about women's point of viewbut the cinematography and the acting was bad
The film was so different from expectations. Because Mr Ataman has chosen an unusual style for Turkish cinema. He decided to tell the differences between two girls and didn't put any murder in a film ... Feride Cetin who plays Behiye, was really amazing. She is a short movie director in Turkiye but her first acting performance was unbelievable. I hope she continues acting. Behiye the rebellious girl who lives in a suburb. She's a tough attitude in life because she has no friends and her family finds her crazy. It's a benefit to see suburbs and underground parts of Istanbul. The film stands far away from the Turkish classical cinema. Esp. Behiye is a clever girl who doesn't accepts to be an ordinary girl despite she's good cooking girl. Replikas, Turkish rock group, made great music for Behiye's scenes. Also the other Turkish popular songs that are used in movie are OK for the spirit of movie.
This film proves that a very good film can be made out of a mediocre novel. I went to the cinema forced by my girlfriend and came out of it thoroughly impressed and touched. The film divided the male and female audiences in Turkey, and I am happy to say I am not one of the Turkish males who felt "slapped" by this movie. Having said this, if your idea of life is soccer and drinking booze, this is not a film for you. For the other lesser beings such as myself, I would like to add that this is one of those rare films we see in the world today that will change one's life. It is also a revolutionary film for the Turkish cinema, finally an intelligent and sensitive departure from the stupid slap sticks of the recent years toward bone dry reality about everyday Turkish life. I strongly recommend it.
