The End of An Old Song offers a glimpse of the life of Dillard Chandler, a singer in North Carolina. The film offers a stark vision of his life in a rural area, without even a mail box. It follows Chandler as he travels to town, interacts with prostitutes, and sings old folk songs. Although Chandler himself does not complain, it presents a grim vision of rural poverty and loneliness.

The songs are the highlight of the film, preventing from becoming too depressing. The stand out is an elderly woman's performance of O Death, bringing out the song's full dark power. Chandler himself also turns in some great tunes. The songs make this short film well worth a watch.
