The Wrong Brother

Due to the fact that I saw Final Cut every year I was at BYU, it should say something that this is one of the only films I can remember. This hilarious short film tells the story of the long-forgotten Wright brother. While everything Orville and Wilbur touch turns to gold, poor Hector is left out on his own. He wants to be an inventor too, like his brothers! But alas, he is always ignored, and made fun of by his brothers who don't believe he could invent ANYTHING.

The costuming and props all look "old timey", but the humor is very modern and anachronistic. It's only 15 minutes long, so you can't lose by giving it a try. You'll laugh, I promise.

Megan, I saw this, too! In fact, Neal Gage (newspaper boy) lived in my apartment complex in Provo. This show was FUNNY. I remember noticing that not all Final Cut movies were on FILM, but this one was. WOW, what a difference it made.

It was very excited for me to see Napolean Dynamite made it so big, since it stemmed from a small Final Cut movie, "Peluca." Final Cut was definitely one of my favorite events of the year. Those film students are so clever!

I remember another one Jon Heder was in, something like "Employee of the Month." It kinda reminded me of Jennifer Aniston's character in Office Space with all the buttons on her uniform.

Ahh good old BYU cinema.

The Wrong Brother tells the story of Hector Wright, the fictional youngest brother in the Wright family. The fame of Orville and Wilbur, the dashing young inventors of the airplane, shines so brightly it casts a shadow over Hector's every accomplishment. Orville and Wilbur love their stardom and almost forget that Hector exists. Instead of sustaining his self pity, Hector gets to work on some inventions of his own, which may have greater consequences than anyone in town realizes. Though the overall plot may be cliché (triumph of the underdog), the setting and characters are memorable, with some excellent sight gags to boot.
