Tatino Films, a French production and consultancy company involved in industry events in Asia and Europe, is launching the Full Circle Lab, a new workshop program which will take place in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in France.

Spearheaded by industry veteran Matthieu Darras, the Full Circle Lab will support six film projects during each session. Selected projects will have to be connected to the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, which spans the West and Southwest France, with colourful cities including Bordeaux and La Rochelle. The Lab is co-headed by Alexis Hofmann, head of acquisitions at Bac Films, and Julie Marnay, who was previously in charge of the selection of short films at Cannes’ Critics Week.

Filmmakers participating in the Full Circle Lab will receive support through the development phase, as well as the post-production and promotion of their movies.

For its inaugural edition, the Full Circle Lab will welcome four projects at script stage and two films in post.

When “Genius” producer Kenneth Biller went to the Spanish town of Málaga to visit Antonio Banderas, he quickly learned the hierarchy. The Andalusian coastal city, he was told on his way in from the airport, has two local heroes who are particularly esteemed by the town in which they were born.

“They explained to me, in Spanish, ‘El primero is Picasso,'” Biller said. “‘El segundo is Antonio.'”

And No. 2 played No. 1. In “Genius: Picasso,” Banderas takes on a role that had long haunted him, and one he’d spent years avoiding, of the protean artist who cast a huge shadow in his hometown, where he grew up during the reign of dictator Francisco Franco.

“Picasso was enormous in Málaga,” Banderas said. “We didn’t have many heroes.

When Harvey Weinstein was trying to lose weight and visited one of his sets, handlers advised the crew to remove certain foods from the craft service table. With a crew of well over 100 people, the solution wasn’t to provide an enticing, healthy alternative for the visiting boss, who had to be followed with cans of diet soda like a nurse with an oxygen tank. The solution was to eliminate any food that could be a possible temptation. The assumption was clear: Weinstein’s appetite was huge, his discipline nonexistent, and the entire company needed to cater to his shortcomings.

It’s 1973, and the streets of New York are swamped with the morning upchuck of a hungover sexual awakening. Vinyl, brainchild of Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese, Terence Winter, and Rich Cohen, climbs deep into the world of record production in the skin-submersible of one Richard “Richie” Finestra, protagonist and (briefly) narrator. We meet our hero ripping off his car’s rear-view mirror in his hunt for a surface to snort coke off of, a symbolic destruction of introspection and reflection, and leave him staggering like Frankenstein’s monster from the wreckage of a collapsed building. If you enjoy seeing new twists on vintage horror villains, then you might be adding a few more TV shows to your DVR in the future. A little over a week ago, Fox revealed they are moving forward on a Frankenstein TV series pilot, while ABC unveiled their plans for a TV series adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera. Now a third show has entered the mix, as Endemol Studios has their own version of the Phantom in the works.

According to Deadline, Tony Krantz is writing a TV drama series adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s classic 1909 novel, The Phantom of the Opera, that will be directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie) and produced by Endemol Studios. We announced recently that Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder would be featured in the upcoming Almost Mercy. We've received a bunch of new casting info (including the signing of a Dr. Gash favorite!) and a mega distribution deal.

The two leads in Almost Mercy will be played by Danielle Guldin and Jessie Default. Also named to the cast will be horror legend Debbie Rochon (pictured; woo hoo!), veteran actor Fred Sullivan, Jr., Eric Nyenhuis, Tanja Lynch, Sean Leser and pro wrestler Michael Bennett.

Wrestling icon Tommy Dreamer is also scheduled to make a cameo appearance in the Woodhaven Production Company project.

The upcoming film Backmask is the latest horror effort from Marcus Nispel, a director who went from the world of music videos to genre projects like the television adaptation of Dean Koontz's Frankenstein (2004) and remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th. As someone who has seen Backmask, a project we've been tracking for a while now, I'm now allowed to tell you that I enjoyed it quite a bit. It has a manic energy and polish to it that should please horror fans. I walked away from the film looking at it as a contemporary "Night of the Demons meets Evil Dead" blood-soaked ride that turns a lot of horror tropes on their head.

Martin Scorsese's tale of financial excess holds firm at the box office, pulling ahead of American Hustle and 12 Years a Slave

Wolf pulls ahead

A week ago, contenders for the best picture Oscar American Hustle, 12 Years a Slave and The Wolf of Wall Streetstood more or less neck and neck with around £11m apiece. Now the Scorsese comedy has pulled ahead with just shy of £15m, compared with £13.69m for Slave and £12.2m for Hustle. The Wolf of Wall Street is already the ninth-biggest 18-certificate movie at the UK box-office, behind Hannibal (£21.6m), American Beauty (£21.3m), Seven (£19.5m), Silence of the Lambs (£17.1m), Bruno (£15.8m), Django Unchained (£15.7m), Basic Instinct (£15.5m) and Fatal Attraction (£15.4m). Wolf will very soon overtake the last four films on that list, and has a good shot at £20m lifetime. The Bruno figure includes some box-office for the 15-certificate version. Including Monday takings, Wolf is now at £15.17m.

Aaron Eckhart and Miles Teller have been cast in Bleed for This.

They will star in Synchronicity Entertainment's biopic about boxer Vinny Pazienza.

Teller will play the boxer who shot to stardom before being involved in a near-fatal car crash.

Told that he would never walk again, he defied doctors' orders by returning to the gym under trainer Kevin Rooney (Eckhart) and going on to win several more titles.

Eckhart can currently be seen in I, Frankenstein, with Teller starring alongside Zac Efron and Michael B Jordan in That Awkward Moment.

Ben Younger (Boiler Room, Prime) will write and direct Bleed for This with Martin Scorsese serving as executive producer.

Oscar winner Martin Scorsese (The Wolf Of Wall Street) will executive produce the project which Synchronicity Entertainment, the cutting edge division of The Solution Entertainment Group, will sell at the European Film Market in Berlin.

Based on the incredible true story of one of boxing’s most charismatic and exciting figures, Bleed For This centers around Vinny Panzienza (Teller), who quickly shot to stardom when he dominated undefeated champion Gilbert Dele. A near-fatal automobile accident left him with the news that he would never walk again. Los Angeles (AP) - With Super Bowl Xlvii weekend in full swing, "Ride Along" remained strong, steering Universal Pictures into the No. 1 slot in a surprising three-week takeover at the box office.

Topping multiplex sales since setting a January debut record when opening over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend with $48.6 million, the buddy cop comedy, starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube, made $12.3 million, as it nears a $100 million domestic total, according to studio estimates Sunday.

"I don't think anyone would have seen that coming," Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for box-office tracker Rentrak, said of "Ride Along."

Despite the looming viewpoint that films with a primarily African-American cast don't do well overseas, the domestic success of "Ride Along" could fuel its popularity overseas.

"Kevin Hart and Ice Cube are great stars and they are international stars at this point. The movie doing so well...

The Wolf of Wall Street has topped the UK box office for the second consecutive weekend.

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio's latest collaboration earned £3.6 million to top the chart ahead of 12 Years a Slave.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, the Chris Pine-led reboot of Tom Clancy's CIA spy, debuts at number three with £1.2 million.

In fourth place is Disney's Frozen, which has now earned more than £35 million from UK screens after two months on releases. American Hustle rounds out the top five.

Elsewhere, new releases Inside Llewyn Davis and August: Osage County debut in the top ten at numbers six and seven respectively.

This Friday sees the release of I, Frankenstein, The Awkward Moment and Mark Wahlberg's Lone Survivor, all of which are likely to make the chart next week.

“The Wolf of Wall Street,” director Martin Scorsese’s black comedy starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was the biggest foreign box-office earner this weekend with $31 million from 27 markets. That raises the international total for “Wolf” to $85 million, not far behind its domestic haul of $98 million, giving it a worldwide total of $183 million. With its bizarre, poorly-explained premise and derivative fantasy action, I, Frankenstein was dead on arrival this weekend. As a result, Ice Cube/Kevin Hart comedy hit Ride Along easily cruised to a second consecutive victory.After setting a new January opening record last weekend, Ride Along fell 49 percent to $21.3 million. Through 10 days, the buddy comedy has banked $75.5 million, and it's on pace to reach $100 million in the next two weeks. I, Frankenstein is having a disastrous debut. It was expected to have an $11 to $14 million opening weekend, but it appears the film will fall short of even those low estimates, with $7.75 million. The film is now destined to join 47 Ronin as the latest film to flop in 2014. The budget is estimated to be around $60 million, and that is not including marketing costs. There is a bit of good news, audiences gave the film about Frankenstein's monsters battling gargoyles and demons a B Cinemascore. The season, which runs on Saturday nights from February 1 to 22 at 9pm, promises "vampire vixens, creepy castles, mouldy mummies, satanic sadists and Lee & Cushing on top show".

Hammer recently unveiled the trailer for The Quiet Ones, the studio's follow-up to its successful critical and commercial return with The Woman in Black.

This dreaded dump month is only going to look worse considering all the terrific December releases we just saw: Martin Scorsese, Spike Jonze, and the Coen Brothers’s three incredible films; Ron Burgundy’s hilarious return; and David O. Russell‘s pretty good movie. Even with 47 Ronin kind of stinking up the joint, it couldn’t ruin last month’s holiday filmgoing spirit. December ended a satisfying year on a tremendous note. It is a new year in cinema, at least for everyone who isn.t still coked up from Martin Scorsese.s Wolf of Wall Street. Unfortunately, January tends to be a dumping ground where studios release all of the films that weren.t good enough to push for Oscar consideration or big enough to release during the summer tentpole season. I guess they figure everyone celebrated enough during the holidays and no one needs to get excited for cinema so early in the year. There are some exceptions to the rule here, as Hercules, Frankenstein and Jack Ryan are characters that seem better suited for warm weather releases. Will they be the first blockbusters or 2014, or merely the first batch of disappointments? Take down the Christmas tree and hang those lights on our January preview, which starts off with a bang, or at least a bump in the night. Paranormal...

Update: Jessica Brown Findlay ("Downton Abbey") and James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) will star alongside Daniel Radcliffe in Max Landis' Frankenstein. McAvoy will play Dr. Frankenstein and Brown Findlay's role wasn't clarified.

March 1, 2013 - Daniel Radcliffe will go from playing upright wizard to creepy assistant. The Harry Potter star is in final talks to play Igor, Dr. Frankenstein's hunchback assistant in 20th Century Fox's Frankenstein.

One can only assume Radcliffe will take inspiration from Dobby in how to say "Master" in the most disconcerting manner.

Carrie Set Visit: Kimberly Pierce Talks Pigs Blood, Prom and Remakes, in theaters this October

Last August, We were invited by Sony Pictures to cover their remake of Carrie. Every horror buff holds this film as a genre standard. Based on the first novel released by Stephen King and adapted for the screen by Director Brian De Palma, Carrie was a critical and commercial hit in 1976. It scored Oscar nominations for Sissy Spacek as Carrie, and Piper Laurie as her domineering, religious fanatic mother Margaret. The film also introduced audiences to a young John Travolta, Amy Irving, and Nancy Allen. Remaking a film of this caliber required an exceptional director and cast to bring a modern version of Carrie to a new audience. Director Kimberly Peirce, who rose to fame with the gripping Boys Don't Cry, was chosen to helm the ship. She cast the young, but seasoned actress Chloe Moretz as Carrie.

Last August Dread Central had the opportunity to head up to Toronto, Canada, to visit the set of Screen Gems' upcoming remake of Carrie, and here's Part 1 of our Set Report.

Carrie is a project that first piqued our interest because of the studio's intriguing choice of director for the project: Kimberly Peirce. Peirce is a storyteller not necessarily known for her horror prowess, but she is a filmmaker who has the ability to masterfully tackle challenging and often thought-provoking material alongside some of her more seasoned peers. Her feature film debut was the Oscar-nominated drama Boys Don't Cry, which made people quickly forget that Hilary Swank was also The Next Karate Kid, and her stunning follow-up, the 2008 war-themed drama Stop-Loss, proved that then up-and-coming actor Channing Tatum was more than some kid who could dance.

Evil Dead is, according to one of its advertising posters, "The most terrifying film you will ever experience". That may be true, but perhaps not because it has brutal psychological and physical horror in a cabin in the dark woods and various other types of harrowing trauma. What might make it the most terrifying film experience is the actual experience of watching a remake of The Evil Dead - not the content we're swallowing, but the concept itself.
