Governer of Michigan William Milliken honored director Hrayr Toukhanian with an executive proclamation praising him for having shot the entire movie in Michigan. Scenes of Assignment Berlin (1982) were filmed in the old German sections of Detroit and its suburbs. The reenactment of Soghomon Tehlirian's trial was shot in the historic Masonic Temple.
