Throws itself between two stools

Despite doing nothing horribly wrong, this game is determined to shy away from any chance at greatness as soon as it gets close.

Think about a well presented luxury liner. Think about zombies and escaped bio-weapons. Think about a horrific control system when it comes to turning your character around. Think stop-start-stop-start-stop-start lightgunning sections mixed with the ability to run in circles. Think typical RE game mechanics, painfully simplified, puzzles removed, tension removed and half-decent characters removed.

What you're thinking probably resembles this game.

Whilst many regard it as a brave attempt to mould two genres into a playable game, I can't share their sentiments. The controls are laughable, for a game associated with RE and considering what the RE games were like at the time of this game's release.

Add in the short completion time, the tired enemy types and the unappealing characters, this really didn't require or deserve the RE tag.

Those requiring some adrenalin-fueled action will already own games far superior to this, those looking for survival horror may well become quickly annoyed at the shallow gameplay. RE fans might well become drowsy at the re-repeating enemy types.

As a footnote, those behind this game have obviously got some talent and could create cracking software I'm sure (that's if the actual RE team wasn't behind this in the first place?), but this game would need rebuilding from the ground up to really shine.

The creepiest RE ever created, one of the creepiest horror games of all times.

Everybody are talking about shooting mechanics (which are decent enough) but they are not the most important aspect of this game. In my opinion the best part of this game is the horror itself which manages to creep you out even for 2020's standard. The moan from first zombie you encounter in game is something that will haunt you and is still equaly terrifying today, 17 years after the release of the game. Fire up your emulator and play this game if you have not already. It is old but will still manage to give you heart stroke and send shivers down your spine which is somewhat rare in modern horror games.

Man With The Bad Neck

It's a game that is passable, I enjoy it I think the peak of it is the funny action movie story, the best safe room music just The Boat That had at absolute amazing atmosphere, but the shooting in gameplay. Just doesn't come together.

Shooting never feels good, Maybe it's because I should have a light gun, but sadly I don't think many people have, and I don't think anybody will play it like that So especially with an emulator, so what we have is some really janky pointing with the analog stick that works, but is never good.

But the atmosphere on the boat is amazing and it feels like at Yankee beta version, of what Resident Evil 4 could have been, so it is a one to see what that game could have ended up being instead of one of the best game of all time.

Mercifully the game shortcoming doesn't really matter that much, because it is insanely short I have beaten there two times before, and I got it down to an hour and 20 minutes, so it could add most taken two hours.

The game has a soul to it. Maybe the gameplay isn't that fun, but it is doing its own thing and I respected it. So it is worth playing if your Resident Evil fane.

Fun as hell, even better with the gun.

I think this is the greatest achievement Capcom has had with the lame Survivor series. Number one was too short, number 2 didn't even make it to the states, number 3 wasn't even resident evil. But this one takes the cake, really makes up for the screw ups before. I bought the bundle with the gun, and I played it non-stop. This is one of the funnest games I have ever played. GO GET IT NOW!!

A cut above "Resident Evil: Survivor"

This is the second "Resident Evil"/first-person shooter I have played, and (In My Humble Opinion) it is much better than the previous one (the above-mentioned "Resident Evil: Survivor"). It blends RE's traditional 3rd-person action with the 1st-person shooter style of "Survivor", which is very handy. "Survivor" was all FPS, all the time, which can get nerve-wracking, especially when you're fighting multiple enemies. In "Dead Aim", you only enter FPS to fight. Tap the trigger (R1) once to aim, and again to fire. If you don't like the odds, you can turn and run away, or fight back if the bad guy has grabbed you, then turn back and resume the battle.

Since it's for PS2, both analog sticks come into play; the left one for movement (if you're "old-school" like me, you may prefer the D-pad), and the right one for changing your aiming point, which is represented by the crosshairs on the screen. You can use the Right and Left buttons on the D-pad to strafe, but using Forward and Back will move *you*, not your aim point, and you'll revert to 3rd-person action.

Carrying stuff is a little different in this game, since the only limit is on the amount of ammo clips you can carry; a total of 6 slots are available, and that space has to supply *all* of your weapons. You get 3 different types of 9mm handguns, one .50 caliber Magnum handgun, one shotgun, one Assault Rifle, one Grenade Launcher, and a Plasma Rifle. Handgun ammo is plentiful, and the save areas carry an infinite amount. Otherwise, conserve whenever possible (especially Magnum ammo), and also keep plenty of health items in reserve.

There are only two really tough boss battles in this game; the rest of the action is pretty standard. Just be careful not to get too close to the really huge boss, and be patient when fighting the really fast boss (you'll see what I mean).

This is a good game for "Resident Evil" enthusiasts, and the learning curve is not very steep. There are three difficulty levels (Easy, Normal and Hard), which allow you to familiarize yourself with the game without getting killed too often. Overall, I give it: 10/10.
