There is no debating that this is one of the greatest games ever made. In my opinion, it is the best of the best. I've lost count of how many times I've beaten it. Every time I play it, I discover something new about the game play or story. It is one of those games that you can never really get tired of.
Everything about this game is incredible. The graphics, game play and enemy AI have been improved since Metal Gear Solid 2. The plot, however, is still similar to the rest of the series. From the beginning, you really feel emotionally connected with the main characters. As you play along, you fight several bosses, all of them very memorable (especially The End and The Boss). The plot goes at a perfect pace and is very compelling. I won't spoil the ending, but it has one of the most unexpected twists I've ever seen in any form of entertainment. There are twists and turns all the way through, even AFTER the credits.
The game's musical score really makes the cut scenes more emotional and the game play more enjoyable. The soundtrack is definitely something you won't want to miss.
All in all, THIS GAME ROCKS!! 10/10 If you haven't played it, or any other games in the series, you are truly missing out.

The game itself is like watching a James Bond movie...
This game has it all. Hideo Kojima has once again impressed me and as well as the other millions of people who have played his Metal Gear games. It has turned into a complete franchise. This is probably the best Metal Gear Solid game I've ever played, although I was a little disappointed about the camera overhead view, but I can understand why it was used as a specific perspective for this particular game.
Hideo is a pure genius when it comes to "Tactical Espionage Action". "Snake Eater" has the most Cinematic cut-scenes, challenging gameplay, unique storytelling, unbelievable plot twists, and as always little Easter eggs scattered around this game that you can't even describe. Simply, this game just boggles the mind. There is so much you can do. You can basically do anything in MGS 3 SE has to offer such as eating, taking good care of yourself, its just endless, From this day, I am still playing it, and from what I've played so far I can't get my hands off of it.
Btw, there is a bunch of classic moments, so much 1960's related reference, and also some James Bond movie creation reminiscent to this game it's just INSANE!!! I'm wondering why Hideo hasn't directed a Metal Gear Solid movie himself. =) Wait what am I saying? This is a movie itself! More like an interactive movie with flawless execution! =D My final words to this game is just simply a "masterpiece of a work of art."

One of my favorite games on the PS2 ever. I have been a big fan of the Metal gear solid series ever since I played the First game back in 1999 as a child. I have gone out of my way to play every game in the series and most of them are great with a only a few being meh. MGS3 is easily my favorite game in the series and is in my top 5 games of all time. MGS1 was an awesome game and to this date it's my favorite PS1 game but This game was always the one I was most emotionally attached to. The gameplay is great and the controls are better then the first games. There's more to do in the game with more optional ways to take down enemies etc. The storyline is soo good and epic, The main character Big Boss is amazing. He felt more human then Solid Snake did and is also a badass. The games graphics, music, cutscenes, voice acting and ending are awesome too. The replay value in this game is also really high with the different outfits, face paints, bonus items, boss modes, and snake vs monkey which is a cool mini game that's based on the Ape Escape games. Overall this is the best game in the series for me since it's also a prequel to the entire Metal gear solid storyline and it being less cutscene heavy then the other games in the series. If you are newcomer I would jump straight to this game since you'll be able to follow the story more easily. this game is fantastic and should be played by every human being on the Planet. Hideo Kojima I salute you!
MG 1 and 2 were good, mgs was great, mgs 2 was also good, but this game is truly the best one in the series... I really love the style it's presented in, even the endless cut-scenes that the mgs games are know for, are interesting all the time... I REALLY enjoyed playing through it, the new cameo system is also great, it makes it more tactical and stealthy...
the only little thing I think wasn't all that good was the healing wounds, I mean it's great at first, but going into the menu to heal yourself 10-20 times during a boss fight is quite boring and repetitive but everything else about it is just great, the story is exceptional and Naked Snake is a great character.
I truly recommend it!

Hideo Kojima is possibly the most famous video game director currently living, and for good reason: his Metal Gear franchise has set a high-watermark for video game storytelling. He accomplished this with Metal Gear in 1987, and as recently as 2015's Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain his directorial skills STILL hold up wonderfully.
Kojima doesn't direct his games JUST like games: he treats them like movies that he loves and wants to give his all to every aspect of the project. Metal Gear Solid 3 is one of the highlights of the Metal Gear series, not only because its prequel-oriented storytelling delivers surprises that doesn't make it feel like obligatory canon like George Lucas' Star Wars prequels, but also because the game is a period piece gaming hasn't done in such a way since its release. The 1960s Soviet Union in this game shows the wild aspects of the Union; but you still get the nuclear-influenced machinations going on behind the scenes: a genius move for the game serving the Cold War setting and the overall Metal Gear story.
Hideo Kojima has been hailed over the years for his wonderful directing gifts perfectly fitting his games, and Metal Gear Solid 3 once again drove the point home, and has continued to showcase the man's superpowers as a man defying the rest of fellow game-makers in the medium.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is like a movie.. a movie.. with very very long cutscenes. Normally this would be HORRIBLE, but Hideo Kojima's direction is enough to make the cutscenes seem cinematic enough for Hollywood.
The game itself, well, the graphics are excellent, the music and voice acting is great, the cinematics are well-directed, the boss battles are amazing and the game is FUN. There is so much replay value in this that I've played through it 3 times already and I'm still amazed with it.
Let's just hope MGS4 is even better.
Snake? Snake! SNAAAAAAKE!!!

metal gear solid 3 is by far the best metal gear solid for these reasons.
1 you've got to camouflage yourself to blend in 2 you've got to eat food to help your performance 3 you actually suffer from recoil on this game and the silencers where off after a couple of rounds. i could go on but it would ruin the entire game completely metal gear 3 is also just like watching a movie there are times when for a good 20 minutes the equivalent to a simpsons episode you are just watching a cut scene. this game surpasses the second mainly cause you play snake not raiden (however doesn't mean to say he doesn't play a role) however this isn't for the devil may cry kind of person patience and stealth is the key. this game is an example of why games are better than movies it's more movie than action in my opinion if you do know your way round. I've given it 10 out of 10 because its one of a few games i wont be giving back to the shop. this game is a bit like the movie saw you don't't understand what the hell is going on until the very end during the debriefing when all is revealed and believe me its what u least suspect.

I am writing this review 2 years after i completed this game but the excellence of this title is unforgettable. In one word this title can be described as a masterpiece...from storyline to graphics; in game controls to physics engine; character to sound mixing, cinematic(s) to AI coding, i bet you will not be able to pull out any shortcoming or any snag, simply "No room for improvement".
These kind of games keep the consoles going hand to hand, i was not able to think of anything else until i completed it.I have been a complete gaming freak for the last 12-15 years but this title is still on the top for me(joined by God of War ;)).
I can keep writing for this one for ages but IMDb needs reviews not essays...so to end in sweet silence i must say , THE RACE TO PERFECTION ENDS HERE...

Metal Gear Solid has gotten better every single time. MGS1 is widely accepted as the best PS1 game. MGS2 pushed the PS2 to it's limits (and was the best PS2 game at it's time).
MGS3 offers some of the best graphics on PS2 you'll ever see. The soundtrack is superb. The game play is incredible whether you're stalking behind an enemy, preparing to silently grab him, or whether you are trying to pull yourself out of a gun fight in the middle of the jungle! The cut-scenes are some of the best real-time graphics and sound you'll ever experience on PS2. The storyline is completely compelling. It makes you feel part of the story, and brings the tension and excitement out of it.
Metal Gear Solid is made by one of the single most dedicated games makers on the planet. This is a real high quality game. Instead of spending your money on Fifa games... just give this game a chance. It's supreme.

Having never played Metal Gear Solid properly(only tried MGS1 as a kid), I wanted to see what all the fuss is about. And since this is chronologically the 1st game in the story, I started with this.
Sadly, too much focus on stealth, it seems. Not sure if I can knock the game for that, since it's supposed to be a stealth game? Although not being able to pick up enemy guns doesn't make sense. And the trial and error gets kinda dull, when you get spotted and a small army of enemies comes down on you, and you have nothing to defend yourself with, forcing you to just start over, because it just gets pretty stupid and silly at that point. You start the game with only a knife and tranquilizer gun for attacking, and have to spend pretty a long time like that, it seems. Having so much health, even on HARD difficulty, is also pretty weird. I think you have to repeatedly get hit for well over a minute to die. If this is HARD, I wonder what the lower difficulties are like...

Metal Gear Solid 3 may have slid under the radar due to the overwhelming hype of Halo 2 for XBOX, but since I bought and finished this game in a couple of days, it's easily one of the best video games I've ever played and I've played hundreds.
The game is close to achieving perfection with amazing graphics, terrific game play, awesome boss battles and compelling storyline with some of the fantastic cut scenes that surpass the ridiculously insane level of Rambo films and others like it. It is impossible to be moved by the ending, but this game did for me. The epic scope of the game is a clear case that sometimes playing a video game is better than going to the movies at a certain time period when there are too few good movies to see. Metal Gear Solid 3 is an incredible achievement in video gaming from the standpoint of my experience playing the game from beginning to end.
Hideo Kojima and the staff at Konami have raised the bar in video game experience once again. No wonder the creators of the Matrix trilogy the Wachowski brothers are fans of Kojima for his genius as a game planner, story-writer and designer.

This is favorite MGS game! The story is amazing, and manages to build on what was established in the prior game, set the sequel up for a thrilling conclusion while simultaneously being a fresh and unfamiliar narrative. I love sneaking around in urban settings of past games, but the jungles of 1960's Russia are a refreshing alternative that adds a new dimension to the conflict at hand. Not only is it you versus enemy soldiers and armed vehicles, but it's also you versus nature. The gameplay is as good, varied, and balanced as it gets in the series. CQC and interrogating guards never get old, and the hunting aspect provides a fresh new challenge. The Boss fights are among the most entertaining in the series, and the fight with The End is one of the best in any series ever.

I just started playing the Metal Gear games last year. I had always wanted to play them, but never got around to it when I was younger, so I am trying them out for the first time now. I was able to score a collection and I also found both parts of five on one disc. I enjoyed the first two games and this one was really good too. I like that the collection features easy modes on the games, because I enjoy the story more than I do trying to master the harder difficulties. So I get to have some fun and think I am doing really good and enjoy the good, albeit sometimes strange, stories of this series.
This game does not feature the Snake we know from the first two Metal Gear Solid games or of the NES games, but rather the man who will become Big Boss. He is Snake here and his mission is to infiltrate a Russian base and rescue a scientist who has defected. Unfortunately, Snake's mentor defects to Russia and reclaims the scientist leaving Snake for dead. He returns and is now charged with getting the scientist again and to also kill Vulgin, a rogue Russian soldier and kill his former mentor. He will have to go through her whole squadron of elite soldiers and navigate the jungles. He will receive some help from Eva, a woman who is mysterious and whose motivations are not entirely clear.
The game play is the same as it features you using stealth to try and sneak passed enemies and collect weapons to make yourself a bigger threat. The terrain in this one is more outdoors this time and features many jungle locations, but are there really so many snakes and stuff in Russia? Speaking of snakes, you must eat snakes and a variety of wildlife so that you can keep your stamina high. One of the few differences from previous games as well as the terrain. You also can perform surgery on yourself, but for some reason I got stuck with the Fear's arrows in me for most of the game...
So a very good addition to the series as the story was as good as the previous two games. The game play could have been better, as the controls messed me up various times and the game ran a bit short too, like the earlier two. Overall, I enjoyed this one mainly due to the story and seeing the origins of Big Boss and it was cool seeing a young Ocelot in this one too.

Words can't describe the greatness of this game. I have another comment on this game, but I seriously don't mind writing another one. This is honestly one of, or dare I say, THE best game ever made. It seriously has it all: entertaining characters, great voice-acting, great action, jaw-dropping graphics, intense boss battles, an excellent story, and two major twists at the end, one of which is one of the best in video game history. The Metal Gear series has only improved with time, and the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots looks to be the best one yet. Hideo Kojima and co. have outdone themselves yet again. I got this the day it came out, for $50, and I can tell you it was worth EVERY CENT. It's $20 now, so if you have a PS2 and not this game, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!
10/10. Simply amazing.

since 1997 i have spent my time on playstation playing only two different game series, final fantasy and metal gear solid and they have not disappointed. mgs 3 takes place in the cold war as an American agent goes on a mission to rescue a scientist and destroy a weapon. a large portion of the game takes place outdoors in the Russia wilderness. this world is incredibly detailed and the in game graphics are second to none. so is the games realism. you are required to camouflage yourself in order to remain unseen and as you play you wear yourself out requiring a meal, which you kill on site, to restore your strength. another great tid pit is the way the game challenges the action hero cliché that he can carry as much ammo and guns as he likes, in this game only a certain amount is able to be carried by snake and the more you carry the more stamina you use.
the story is a big improvement on mgs 2 and is much similar to simple story of mgs 1, with enough twists and turns to keep in interesting.
the game play is great, the new CQC, close quarters combat, is excellent allowing you to sneak up on a guard and incapicate him silently. boss fights are also very good, the sniper battle is one to be remembered.
some believe that the game has to much stealth and not enough action. you can try to get through the game with a violence approach and you could succeed however you will find it more difficult and in my opinion less fun and satisfying than sneaking your way through.
overall the game is perfect in every way, the enemy AI makes is a thing of beauty as they protect themselves with riot shield at the front and men with shotguns and sometimes rocket launchers staying to the rear to inflict major damage. the graphics are of the highest quality especially in game, the cut scenes do not reach the highs of Final fantasy X but then again what game does. the story a nd characters are much more interesting and enjoyable and when finished it would be hard not to be impressed and feel a great sense of accomplishment at completing such a game. (the hardest levels require a lot of skill and most importantly patience.
"Bottom line is, even if you see them coming your not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does".

If you are someone who likes a bit of tactical espionage stealth em up. Who likes patriotic story lines and events. (Also it helps if you have played the previous games, MGS 1 + 2) This is most deffinitley the game for you!
The graphics, stunning The gameplay, keeps you hooked and focused The lifespan, never dies out
You will want to play this game over and over. Also there's extra bonus radio calls and things to find like weapons and camouflage. I will guarantee you, this will be on the top of your pile.
Hideo Kojima, you've done it again!

After the embarrassingly awful "Sons Of Liberty", I was greatly welcoming the chance to play a prequel. !Snake Eater" is set in the 60's, decades before the events of Shadow Moses Island in the first "Metal Gear Solid", and the subsequent madness of the second game.
We play as Naked Snake, the biological 'father' of Solid Snake, before he earns the respected moniker of Big Boss. Since we know Solid Snake is actually a clone, Naked is essentially the same character as him, at least he appears that way to the player, in looks and voice. In this game we learn much about The Patriots, the elite secret powers that conspire the proxy battles which will inevitably threaten in the future.
Compared to the inane lunacy of "Sons Of Liberty", the plot of Snake Eater is much more of a straight James Bond style espionage yarn in the jungle, with surprisingly deep philosophical questions being posed about loyalty and the painful choices Snake must make between his comrades and his country. Snake's old mentor, The Boss, plays at the heart of this dynamic, who it must be said, is one of the most epic and inspiring characters in video game history, and you'll have to play to see why.
The mechanics are familiar in some areas, but dramatically different in others. Some things work, but a lot of things really don't, namely the whole "jungle survival schtick" which at first seems like a fun novelty, but soon becomes tired and annoying. Snake must hunt for food to replenish himself, perform DIY medical care on his wounds and change his camouflage to adapt to his environment. Whilst hunting for food can sometimes be an enjoyable distraction -a bit like capturing a pokémon- it feels clunky and implausible selecting a different camouflage outfit every time you want to blend into something, as does pausing mid-battle to bandage a cut or splint up a broken arm.
The other huge issue is the camera, which still looks down on Snake from above. Due to the wide open spaces and lack of radar, it is much easier for enemies to spot you, but because of the camera, a lot harder for you to see them. You have to hit triangle for 1st person view and you cannot move around while doing so, which is incredibly frustrating and led to me being seen a lot. Fortunately there is another version of this game that includes a fully controllable camera view, but I have yet to play it.
The other thing that annoyed were the bosses. Kojima can't help but indulge those sillier ideas of his, who else could think to design a guy who summons a nest of hornets to attack you, or a double jointed cross-bow wielder with a reptilian tongue? While the gameplay is a mixed bag, the main story is captivating. Visually it's the best looking game on the PS2 and it has one of the most memorable and emotional final boss fights ever. So, all in all, a definite recommend.

Tactical Espionage. Action. Emotion. Trust. Betrayal.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater takes you to a new level of gaming when you go back to where the start of an attention grasping, thrilling story-line begins.
An seemingly 'normal' mission for a Search and Rescue turns into a roller-coaster of mixed feelings for Naked Snake when he encounters his old mentor, and discovers sides are crossing, and the betrayal of trust is inevitable. Snake, by orders of the Government must go and hunt his old friend down, with the agenda of ending her life, but can he really go through with it? Are things really as they seem? Who is betraying who? With absolutely stunning graphics, and an incredibly mind and emotion grasping storyline of events, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is really a game of it's own kind. The game play is excellent and add a new sense of adventure to it, new weapons and new means of tactical espionage flow from the new system that surpasses any yet. Plus, it has excellent potential for replay value! Any fan of the Metal Gear Series, or even new ones can really appreciate this game, it's really one of a kind. Konami and Hideo Kojima outdid themselves yet again!
