In case you’ve been wondering why Tony Stark would recruit a 15-year-old superhero to fight with him against Captain America and his team, director Joe Russo offers an explanation. Peter Parker’s inclusion in the conflict plays out awesomely. Everything from Stark taking him under his wing to watching Spider-Man fight with and against a group of other superheroes is a blast!

According to Russo, Stark brought the young hero in because of his affection for Captain America and his friends. The director explains:

“Look, there’s a certain narcissism to the character and Tony doesn’t want to lose this fight, and at the same time I think he also sees Spider-Man as the greatest living non-lethal weapon. If you’re going out to capture a bunch of people who you don’t necessarily want to hurt, you couldn’t ask for a better character than Spider-Man to take with you.

It’s a superheroic relationship that looks set to stretch beyond the parameters of Captain America: Civil War, now that Robert Downey Jr. is locked for next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, and for good reason, Marvelites are chomping at the bit to learn more of Tony Stark and Peter Parker’s newfound bond.

Shedding some light on that duo today was Civil War co-director Joe Russo, who spoke with Screen Rant about Tony Stark’s inherent narcissism, and why that feeds into his burning desire to ensure Tom Holland’s Spider-Man stands alongside him once the chips are down and gloves are off.

Coming to select theaters this Friday, October 14th, is the must-see Halloween treat The Woman, co-written by novelist Jack Ketchum and director Lucky McKee. The gruesomely funny film finds Pollyanna McIntosh reprising her wild woman character from Offspring in a stand-alone tale that revolves around her capture by a seemingly normal family out to civilize her. Herzog produced by David Lynch: it sounds like an outsider cinephile's fantasy but it's sadly not a patch on the best of their individual works, though worth watching for the cast alone. If it weren't supposedly based on a true story, you'd think the story came out of a late-night Lynch/Herzog weird-off. While delusional am-dram actor Shannon is holed up with two hostages, having just killed his mother with a sword, the cops try to work out how it came to this. Clues include ostriches, flamingoes, jelly, Greek tragedy and, yes, a dwarf.

Ally McBeal star Gil Bellows is teaming with Kissing Jessica Stein star Jennifer Westfeldt to star in writer-director Stu Pollard's indie dramedy Keep Your Distance. Christian Kane, Kim Raver, Elizabeth Pena, Stacy Keach, Jamie Harrold, Rick Overton and Cynthia Martells round out the cast. Shooting is under way in Kentucky. Distance is described as a character-driven project centering on a radio talk-show host (Bellows) and what happens when he meets a pharmaceutical sales rep from out of town (Westfeldt). They accidentally form a bond based on something lacking in all of their other relationships: trust. Pollard is producing the $1.2 million-budgeted feature along with producer Christina Varotsis. A native of Kentucky, Pollard is repped by Innovative Artists Agency and Chris Ridenhour at Tavel Entertainment. He made his directorial debut in 1999's Nice Guys Sleep Alone. Westfeldt is repped by UTA and Tammy Rosen at the Personal Management Co. She recently wrapped another indie, 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. Bellows is repped by ICM and Brookside Artists Management.
