Being April

Love this one. For a change its a true comedy drama. Pauline Quirke is her usually fantastic self. She gets better and better. My favourite actress Amita Dhiri is fab as the feisty Nikshita, some of those slapping moves on Sunil bring back memories of Millys big fight on TL.

All in all a great cast and a great show. The kids are excellent especially the youngster who plays Ty. Keep it up. Heres to series 2.

I love the mixture of immensely funny comedy and serious emotional scenes in this drama, dealing with family values in a multi-racial and pluralistic setting. It might be over-optimistic but it is so encouraging to see so many different people resolving their conflicts in a creative way and learning to live together. Being April is eye-opener in a society where many families consist of unconventional mixes of people. What really matters is that children are loved, no matter whether their parents are together or not and whatever their cultural background or sexual orientation. The writing by Pete Lawson is excellent and all the actors involved have created believable people who matter to us. It's great!

I have only watched a few episodes of this show but have to say I find it quite appalling.Trying to be "politically correct" in the extreme it is so contrived so as be insulting to ones intelligence;April has been married three times-- to a straight guy,a gay guy and a colored guy and has a child from each union.Are we to believe the goings on in this highly fictional and equally highly unlikely scenario?I don't think so! The author is looking at a world he would ideally like to see not one that is real.It may be construed as an attempt to bring about,and smooth over some of society's ills,but for me it fails miserably;it is childish in the manner in which it approaches it's subject matter and is not helped by poor casting and acting.
