Exclusive: Katie Holmes is set to write, direct and star in Happy Hours, a new feature film trilogy where she’ll reunited with her Dawson’s Creek co-star Joshua Jackson, Deadline has learned.

Others in the cast include Mary-Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr., Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson and Jack Martin. Production on the first film kicks off in New York City this summer, with the second and third installments scheduled to follow closely after.

Happy Hours is described as a story about two people (Jackson and Holmes) navigating their relationship within the challenges of careers and family responsibilities and the pursuit of love, despite life’s inevitable obstacles. It’s a character-driven dramedy that explores the emotional journey of young loves who reconnect as adults, with the connective thread of shared joys, loss, and hope.

As part of ScreenRant's summer movie preview, a new image has been revealed for Lilly. The upcoming biopicstars Patricia Clarkson as Lilly Ledbetter, a small town woman who seeks legal recourse after being mistreated by her employer. The movie follows Ledbetter's life over the course of several decades, starting in her early years working for Goodyear and continuing through her high-profile Supreme Court case. The movie is directed by Rachel Feldman, who co-wrote the film with Adam Prince. In addition to Clarkson, Lilly stars Josh McDermitt, Thomas Sadoski, Deirdre Lovejoy, and John Benjamin Hickey.

Now, ScreenRant can exclusively reveal a new image from Lilly. The image shows Clarkson's titular character sitting in a car, looking up at an unseen character. Lilly's eyes look bright as she gazes at the person above her.

Patricia Clarkson, known for her decades of work in independent and studio films, is promoting Lilly, a biographical drama based on the life of equal pay advocate Lilly Ledbetter. While doing so, the Oscar-nominated actress has opened up about past encounters in Hollywood that involved inappropriate behavior, power imbalances, and professional intimidation. Her remarks, shared during recent interviews, shed light on the longstanding dynamics that women in the film industry have worked to expose and change.

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson recounted a meeting early in her career with what she described as a “very big, famous person.” She did not name the individual, but described the interaction in detail. According to Clarkson, she arrived for a professional meeting and was greeted by the man wearing only a towel. “He goes, ‘Oh, I was just working out, I’m going to put some clothes on,’” Clarkson said.

More than 20 years later, Patricia Clarkson is recounting her unfortunate experience with Harvey Weinstein.

The Oscar nominee explained that the disgraced producer tried to submit her at the 76th Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress, despite her lead role in Miramax‘s 2003 film The Station Agent.

“I hate when actors put themselves in false categories. I think that’s something that needs to be addressed by the Academy. Too often it happens,” she told Business Insider. “When you are supporting, you should be truly a supporting player, and when you’re the lead, you have to step up and go into a harder category. I was the lead in Station Agent, so I said, ‘No, Harvey, I’m not going into supporting.'”

Exclusive: Blue Harbor Entertainment will release the Patricia Clarkson-starring drama Lilly, based on the true story of working-class hero Lilly Ledbetter, exclusively in theaters beginning May 9.

Clarkson, who was nominated for an Oscar for her supporting role of Joy Burns in 2003’s Pieces of April, stars as the title character Ledbetter, a real life Alabama tire factory supervisor who aspired to lift her family into the middle class after having grown up in poverty.

She endures a work environment plagued by pervasive harassment for the sake of the best paycheck in the county. As she looks to retire, Lilly discovers that the system has been cheating her, paying her close to half of what the men with the same jobs were earning. Outraged, she fights this injustice to the Supreme Court, the corridors of Congress and eventually the White House all while powerful forces try to shut her down.

Olivia Colman’s indie South of the River Pictures has hired Emmy-winning producer Lucy Barzun Donnelly.

Donnelly will oversee film development and production activities, with a focus on nurturing new and established creators from diverse backgrounds on and off screen. In addition to the new hire, Lina Stroud is promoted to Director of Development, Film & TV. She has been with the Sister-backed company since its inception.

Donnelly began her career at John Lyons’ production company, Kalkaska, where she co-produced the Oscar-nominated drama Pieces of April and worked across the likes of Austin Powers: Goldmember. She then launched her own production company, developing and producing pics including The Go Getter and the Emmy-winning Grey Gardens, starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange. Jim Parsons, Zoey Deutch and Katie Holmes will star in the Broadway revival of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town this fall.

In the production, directed by Kenny Leon, Parsons will play the role of Stage Manager, Deutch will play Emily Webb and Holmes will play Mrs. Webb. They lead a cast of 28 actors, who also include Richard Thomas (The Waltons, To Kill a Mockingbird) as Mr. Webb, Ephraim Sykes (Ain’t Too Proud, Hairspray Live!) as George Gibbs and Billy Eugene Jones (Purlie Victorious) as Dr. Gibbs.

The play will begin previews at the Barrymore Theatre on Sept. 17, ahead of an Oct. 10 opening.

Known for his role as Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, Parsons also has extensive stage credits, including a role in Mother Play, which begins Broadway previews April 3. He has previously appeared on Broadway in productions including The Boys in the Band, An Act of God and The Normal Heart.

The Newport Beach Film Festival has announced its 2023 Festival Honors. Among this year’s honorees are William Shatner, Patricia Clarkson, Eugenio Derbez, Todd Haynes, Glenn Howerton, Jack Huston, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Jesse Williams. The festival will be held in person from Oct. 12-19, and the artists will be honored throughout the week.

Clarkson will receive the Artist of Distinction Award, which acknowledges one’s contribution to the arts and philanthropic endeavors as well as their commitment to telling unique and bold stories through their craft. Over the years, Clarkson has taken on a range of roles, earning an Oscar nomination for the 2003 film “Pieces of April” and winning a Golden Globe for her role in HBO’s “Sharp Objects.” She will be honored following a screening of her film “Monica” on Oct. 13 at the festival.

Veteran actor Patricia Clarkson thinks it’s time for her “Monica” co-star Trace Lysette to play the love interest of the “hot guys in Hollywood.”

“The next big step is to play opposite Brad Pitt,” she tells Variety. “It’s time for her to be the love interest of these stars. It’s where she belongs.”

The two actors are both on the awards circuit for the critically acclaimed drama which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival last year, resulting in Lysette receiving an 11-minute standing ovation. The 57th Karlovy Vary Film Festival has unveiled its competition lineup for its 57th edition, set to run in the bucolic Czech spa town from June 30 to July 8.

Among this year’s competition highlights are Fremont, from Iranian-born, London-based director Babak Jalali, a dramedy based around Donya, a former Afghan translator for U.S. troops who now works in a fortune cookie factory in Fremont, USA. Empty Nets, from Iranian filmmaker Behrooz Karamizade, a love story set in a small fishing village in contemporary Iran, is also in the running for the festival’s Crystal Globe honor for best competition film.

Outside the competition, Karlovy Vary this year has put a focus on independent Iranian cinema, with a selection of recent works by directors working outside the Tehran regime.

Katie Holmes is unsure if a Dawson's Creek reboot would fit into today's world. During an interview as part of the Kering Women in Motion Talks at Cannes, Holmes told Variety that conversations surrounding a possible reboot had occurred but that she believed that some of the original series' innocence would be lost if set in the present time. “If he sent me something, he would say, ‘Do you like it? Alright we’ll get him next time, kiddo, no pressure,’” Luke says. “This was the only script that he said, ‘You need to do this. And I’m like, ‘No. Absolutely not. First of all, Marvel, like, what is that?’”

Luke, a veteran film and TV actor, has recent credits that include Disney+’s The Crossover, a coming-of-age drama about two middle school basketball prodigies based on a novel by Kwame Alexander, to bow on April 5. The actor also appears in two movies directed by Katie Holmes: Alone Together and Rare Objects.

Luke reunited with Holmes after their work in Pieces of April. He earned an Independent Spirit Award for his breakout role as Hollywood newcomer in Antwone Fisher.

You know: those movies that keep poking you in the ribs to giggle at their cutely addled characters with their adorable eccentricities — I’m talking woe-is-us hipster comedies like “Pieces of April,” “Lars and the Real Girl” and the pop-crossover “Citizen Kane” of the genre, “Little Miss Sunshine.” The trouble with these movies is that even as they pretend to be lifesize, they’re too conscious about packaging their prefab weirdness; they’re edgy sitcoms minus the laugh tracks. But Rebecca Miller’s “She Came to Me,” which opened the Berlin Film Festival today, demonstrates how the indie quirkfest can be resonant and real, with characters who have soul instead of a chewy center.

The movie’s main figures aren’t just suffering from off-kilter dilemmas — they have problems we might characterize as everyday mental illness.

Exclusive: Oscar-nominated writer-director, playwright and novelist Peter Hedges has signed with UTA for worldwide representation in all areas.

Hedges most recently wrote and directed The Same Storm, a scripted feature that was shot entirely remotely, a glimpse into the lives of 24 characters persevering during the pandemic. Stars include Sandra Oh, Mary-Louise Parker, Noma Dumezweni, Moses Ingram, Alison Pill, Ron Livingston, Rosemarie Dewitt and Elaine May, the film had its world premiere at the 2021 Telluride Film Festival.

Hedhees scored an Adapted Screenplay Oscar nom for co-writing 2002’s About a Boy with Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz.

In television, Hedges was most recently a Consulting Producer and Director on NBC’s Ordinary Joe.

Derek Luke will star in “Rare Objects,” reuniting with Katie Holmes nearly two decades after the pair appeared together in 2003’s “Pieces of April.”

Holmes not only stars in “Rare Objects,” but will produce and direct the movie as well. She also co-wrote its screenplay, which is based on Kathleen Tessaro’s novel of the same name, with Phaedon Papadopoulos. Julia Mayorga, the breakout star of Showtime’s “American Rust,” is part of the ensemble.

Luke will also appear in another (still-untitled) film directed by Holmes alongside Jim Sturgess and Melissa Leo.

Exclusive: Peter Hedges, like so many filmmakers looking not to lose their creative mojo during the pandemic, managed at the height of the Covid lockdown to take advantage of many talented actors trying to survive in the same circumstance, and in the best show business tradition managed to create a new film, The Same Storm, that turned out to be so much more than he could have imagined.

Enlisting the talents of the likes of Elaine May, Mary-Louise Parker, Noma Dumezweni, Judith Light, Sandra Oh, Moses Ingram, Danny Burstein, Ron Livingston, Rosemarie DeWitt, Raza Jeffrey, Daphne Rubin-Vega and many more, he and his team developed a sophisticated shooting system, sent the equipment to each star with some production design and camera setup advice, and created a feature-length movie comprised of a series of vignettes that hand off to one another with seamless editing magic.

As one of the weirder “back to school” seasons in living memory rolls out, Hulu is heading back to school in its own way for September 2020.

The biggest Hulu original arriving to the streaming services stream this month is season 2 of coming-of-age comedy Pen15…which of course stars two adults who have already come of age playing their middle school selves.

Speaking of middle school, perhaps the biggest non-original addition to the Hulu library this month is the arrival of all The Twilight Saga movies on September 1. That should prove to be a real nostalgia trip for interested parties. Other library titles of note include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Terminator, and 2019’s Judy on September 25.

Bookending Hulu’s originals this month is another intriguing comedy, Woke. This series will star Lamorne Morris as a Black cartoonist who gets an unexpected wakeup call.

Believe it or not, Scarlett Johansson had never received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination before. But that all changed Wednesday when she got not one but two individual ones — lead actress for “Marriage Story” and supporting actress for “Jojo Rabbit” — making it just the 11th time an actor has scored double individual film bids.

Anticipated Hulu Originals will also premiere this coming month. Season 2 of “Light as a Feather” will launch on the streamer on Oct. 4, while “Looking for Alaska,” based on John Green’s best-selling novel of the same name, will premiere on Oct. 18.

The upcoming Showtime drama series “Your Honor” has added Carmen Ejogo and Isiah Whitlock Jr. to its cast as series regulars.

The pair join previously announced series lead Bryan Cranston. Cranston stars as a respected New Orleans judge whose son is involved in a hit-and-run that leads to a high-stakes game of lies, deceit and impossible choices. The series also stars Michael Stuhlbarg, Sofia Black-d’Elia, and Hunter Doohan.

Ejogo will play Lee Delamere, a smart lawyer at a moneyed law firm whose passionate pursuit of justice pulls her back into the New Orleans criminal justice system. Ejogo is known for her appearances in films such as “Selma,” the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise, and “The Purge: Anarchy.” On the television side, she recently starred in the third season of “True Detective” at HBO as well as Starz’ “The Girlfriend Experience,” and will appear in the upcoming “Madam C.J. Walker” series for Netflix.

Patricia Clarkson’s portrayals of complicated women “who aren’t 25” in indie films, pay-tv and streaming series, and on stage have offered her a rewarding second act to a career in which she once felt trapped in suburban mom roles.

Speaking to Variety’s chief film critic Peter Debruge as part of the magazine’s Critics Corner video interview series at the Karlovy Vary film fest, the actress said she was amazed to see Czech crowds thronging to her master class. “I thought there would be four people here,” Clarkson confessed.

An actress, author and activist, Moore has long earned accolades on her diverse career path.

The North Carolina native won a Daytime Emmy with her first major TV role on the soap opera “As the World Turns,” and a Golden Globe for one of her first big-screen performances, as part of an ensemble cast in Robert Altman’s “Short Cuts” (1993).

Her wide-ranging work has paired her with the likes of Paul Thomas Anderson, Alfonso Cuaron and the Coen brothers. She’s also had roles in the blockbuster “Jurassic Park” and “Hunger Games” franchises.

A five-time Academy Award nominee, she won her first Oscar for “Still Alice” (2014). Moore recently signed on to star in and executive produce the Apple series “Lisey’s Story,” from Stephen King and J.J. Abrams.

The Karlovy Vary Intl. Film Festival, the leading movie event in Central and Eastern Europe, will honor Julianne Moore and Patricia Clarkson at its 54th edition. The actresses will receive the fest’s Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema.

Moore, who won an Oscar for “Still Alice” and was Oscar-nominated for four other films, will attend a screening of “After the Wedding” with the film’s director, her husband, Bart Freundlich, and her co-star Billy Crudup. The film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, is a remake of Susanne Bier’s Oscar-nominated Danish-language pic.

Karlovy Vary will also screen “The Myth of Fingerprints,” another film starring Moore and directed by Freundlich.

Clarkson, who was Oscar-nominated for “Pieces of April,” will present “Learning to Drive,” directed by Isabel Coixet, at Karlovy Vary.

Poor Emily Blunt. After a stellar 2018 and earning Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations for “Mary Poppins Returns” and “A Quiet Place,” she failed to get an Oscar nomination Tuesday for either, becoming just the second double SAG nominee to go 0-2 with the academy.

Blunt follows in the dubious footsteps of Helen Mirren, who didn’t convert her SAG Awards bids for her 2015 films “Woman in Gold” and “Trumbo” into Oscar nominations. But at least Mirren was already a four-time Oscar nominee and a one-time winner; Blunt is still waiting for her maiden bid.

We're only two episodes into HBO's Sharp Objects, but we only needed the premiere to get us seriously hooked. Based on the eponymous novel by Gillian Flynn, the miniseries follows journalist Camille Preaker as she returns to her hometown to investigate the murders of two preteen girls. Returning home is never easy, and Preaker encounters various reminders of that fact during her investigation - namely her mother, Adora Crellin. Adora is played by actress Patricia Clarkson, and her casting is a mark of true genius by the minds behind Sharp Objects.

Clarkson's portrayal of Adora is beautifully intricate in a way that only true character actors can achieve. It's easy to go campy with the "controlling mom and Southern belle" trope, but Adora is dangerous rather than shrill; brutal rather than ostentatious. It's obvious that she's a broken woman, though she hides it behind the facade of...
