    Ron Ford flexing some muscle!

The Crawling Brain...the name alone conjures images reminisce of days gone by, those fifties b-movies-- so bad yet so good. It was my honor to receive this movie courteous of writer/director Ron Ford, I really didn't know what to expect. Should I be forthright and honest in my dissection of this parody of sorts. Would I be dissatisfied and distraught with the Sloppy/wooden acting. Will those production values such as; bad audio, faulty lighting, poor set design, this, that and the other things quite readily associated with low-budget movies bring my viewing enjoyment down to being nothing more than painful experience. Well I'm privileged to relay to all the "Crawling Brain" has none of that, it's a solid effort through and through. The production values are tight, great camera work, lighting, editing and a sound-track that magnifies the mood, and never takes itself to serious...seasoned to perfection with scantily clad vixens and gore-whore delights. And the humor, tight and expressive, unlike many a b-movie of its design which attempt minor stabs here and there-- "The Crawling Brain" offers itself in limbs (literally) and always manages to bring a sick, twisted smile to the faces of those who partake.

The Crawling Brain, evil incarnate (well kinda-sorta), soon to wreak havoc on the weak- minded of the world (watch out Hollywood!).

And hopefully, it will be the next big thing for a very talented film maker.

Ron Ford, may you be blessed with a big budget...very soon!

I've seen the movie and Randal Malone should be in more films

This is a horror film that is stripped down and simple--reminds me of monster movies from a while back and even Hammer films. If you've seen it, you're a fan of the genre and will get it. I appreciate the setting, in the large home with the laboratory basement. The props, the gore, it all comes together and makes the movie be what horror fans expect. I was looking for something over-the-top, something that you can think about later that night while lying in bed. Why aren't there more movies like this? A fairly simple premise (a creature terrorizing people) goes a long way. Not every films should be two hours of effects, start-and-stop side romances, and ignorant technical banter. Strong work here, guys.

A Revival of Low B Horror Done Right

"The Crawling Brain" is the kind of movie that will appeal to people who looking for something like Tales of the Crypt, Twilight Zone, or the old EC Comic book series. But this isn't a 30 minute tv show with a lot of commercials - this is a full-length film.

The plot? The disembodied brain of an escaped Nazi scientist manipulates two brothers to do its dirty work: find suitable bodies!

As light as it is, you'll find yourself wondering what's going to happen next. Arguably for some, it might run a little long - but where would you cut? Like the classics, this film has a good story with some scenes that stand on their own. The beginning is like a mini-movie and stars a sexy young woman sunbathing (no guy would want the editor to cut this scene). After this opening, we see a very creative POV from the brain, and this film continues to entertain.

One nice surprise is its campy humor. For example, Randal Malone slightly reminds me of Divine (a big star in many of John Waters' films) and his performance keeps us smiling - and guessing if his character will live.

We all know that brains don't really crawl around - or do they? For a fun adventure, see this film.

    Brainless

    OMG! This is garbage.

A totally effeminate fat guy with a really bad mullet wig and sweat, visits his invalid grandmother and there's a bunch of brains in the basement.

Turns out grandma is a Nazi nurse an has Himmel's brain. What?

The grandma is known for her silent film work and my my has time brought her beauty to a halt since she worked with Buster Keaton. Anita must have needed the bucks big time. She cant act. Her delivery is a bit like the egg lady in the John Waters films. And the fat gay guy is sort of like Divine to be honest.

It's that bad, only it's not as good as Waters. No where near. Even if you think that it's meant to be funny and campy, it's still way bad. Waters had a knack for this genre, this director doesn't. It's really horrible in every way.

As an aside, Grandma Anita made a flurry of films in the late 20s - early/mid 30's and then did not made another movie for 30 years. After that, she didn't make another for another 30 years when she did some really bad horror films, including this one.

She was once called the The Girl With the Most Beautiful Face in Hollywood. You wouldn't know it by the look of her pan in this flick.
