Yeh Dil Ashiqana is the story of Karan and Pooja who are studying in the same college in Poona. They meet and fall in love and their romance progresses without any problems until one day while going to her brother's house in Mumbai. Pooja's flight is hijacked by a group of terrorists following the arrest of their leader Ashraf-UL-haq malik. Ironically this hijack has been engineered by Pooja's brother Vijay Varma who is league with the terrorist head Akhmash Jalal. Vijay is unaware of the fact that his beloved sister Pooja is on board the same flight. When he realizes this, he is unable to do anything as Akhmash forbids him from doing anything that would jeopardies their mission. Karan daringly risks his life and rescues Pooja and the other passengers thus making Akhmash and vijay his enemies. Akhmash is now out to kill Karan. Vijay refuses the marriage of Pooja and Karan. Pooja runs away with Karan; but they are followed and caught by Akhmash and his men and they are held captive in his den. Akhmash then tries to blackmail the Indian Government by demanding the release of his leader Ashraf-Ul-haq mallik as ransom for the lives of Karan and Pooja.

Melodious but not great story execution

The biggest strength for this movie is the music which is soulful. Almost every song of the movie were a chartbuster that time. Yeah I too went to theatre to watch the movie only because of its music.

Story wise its an innocent story with average direction. Some more efforts and thinking would have taken the movie to another level.

Karan and Jhanvi both were promising though their performances was not that great.

It was my first visit to India. I viewed this film in Hindi which I do not understand. But, It was a very big pleasure. Easy to understand. Very amusing, touching, and joyful.

The Songs of this movie are superb. Chemistry between couples are awesome. Nice story. I loved it.

Love hijack!

Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa review :

Director Kuku Kohli made an overnight superstar out of debutant Ajay Devgn in Phool Aur Kaante (1991). He tried the same formula - an action packed musical entertainer- with Karan Nath in Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa and though not a blockbuster like Devgn's debut, the film turned out to be a decent earner at the ticket windows celebrating a combined hundred days run at Imperial Cinema, Lamington Road.

Karan Nath and Jividha Sharma played college lovers who get on the wrong side of a dreaded terrorist (Aditya Panscholi) after Karan singlehandedly foils his plane hijack attempt. Jividha's brother (Rajat Bedi) is also an accomplice of the terrorist and plots to kill Karan.

Nadeem Shravan's music was filled with melody specially the title song. Karan and Jividha looked good together as the young lovebirds. Jividha had done the small role of Aishwarya Rai's sister in Subhash Ghai's Taal (1999) earlier but this was her true blue heroine wala debut. She had the spunk in her but sadly, didn't make it big in Bollywood. As for Karan, he too faded away just as fast and quick...

Anecdotes
Juhi Babbar was signed for the film and shot for schedule. The director Kuki Kohli insisted she do a kissing scene that was important to the script. She flat out refused and told Kohli she would leave the film if she had to. Kohli had no choice but to replace her.
