Medabots springs from the same well that gave us Pokemon, Digimon, Mon Colle Knights, Yu-Gi-Oh, & all the other collecting-based show. Despite that, it's a fun little show with alot of laughs & nice character design. The basic premise is almost identical to Pokemon, except for collecting & training various monsters for battle, in Medabots it's various robots. In a neat little twist, the winner gets a part of the loser's Medabot. Our Heroes in this show are Ikki, a young boy who dreams of being the best at fighting Medabots & his Medabot, Metabee. Both characters are quite stubborn & have their own ideas on how to do things, which leads to various humorous situations, but at the end of the day, they both realize that they need one another. Like I said the show, while not very original is quite fun, with some interesting storylines, & unusual character designs. All in all, not a bad little show.
I can't believe this anime has been around for over a year and I'm just now finding out about it! This series is great. The earlier episodes were very funny, while the older to recent episodes are very interesting.
"Medabots" is about a kid named Ikki (or how the closed-captioning person spells it in many earlier episodes: "Ikky") who buys a Medabot named Metabee and battle other Medabots while lots of stuff happens between and around all of the battles. For example: trouble at school, out of school, at home, or problems with the loser-posse known as the "Rubberobos." It's based equally on Medabot fighting, as it is on other interesting things.
Artificial Intelligence fighters in the year 2122. "Now _I've_ seen it all!" It could be a possibility though...

About a year I came across this show. I am a person who watches pretty much everything if I got nothing to do. But I soon found that I rather liked this show.
Unlike most Japanese shows it does not try to sell a product (Yu-Gu-Oh!). Sure there are the Medabots toys but the show never indicated that. It could have been just another cartoon which did not even have a toyline to support.
The story is great. Ikki a young boy who has always wanted a Medabot finds an medal in a river and buys an outdated Medabot which he names Metabee. But Metabee is a little different than Ikki wanted because he has attitude and will not obey Ikki.
But over time the two develop a friendship and that will help them face every challenge and the people who want to steal Metabee's rare medal.
I love the show because it has great characters and a lot of humor. The characters are well done and are nice and distinct. Ikki could have been better because he is the typical arrogant kid (think Pokemon's Ash) but that changes slowly as well.
But Metabee is great and so is Rokusho another of my favorites. And who could forgetb Mr. Referee? I also liked how the French Team was depicted in the final episodes with the World Robattle. They tried to win with cheating which is so realistic. So French.
In all this show is a must see! Try it for yourself, you will not be disappointed!

In 2018-2019 i've managed to catch up on this anime, however it should receive a Netflix or Crunchyroll follow-up showing older versions of Ikki and everyone else featuring an American voice cast and Joe Motiki and some of the original cast VO cast reprising their roles as certain Medabots.
CGI added to the mix rating with sky rocket.

We are well into the third season of Medabots in North America and I've seen most of the 52 episodes in season one and season two. Medabots is clearly aimed at elementary school kids judging by the simplified character design and storylines but can be enjoyed by adults too. I've watched other kid's shows like Pokemon, Flint the Time Detective and Mon Colle Knights that have the same tone but they seem repetitive and boring. In Medabots the show isn't just about fighting but the distinctive characters in that world and how they interact. Most episodes can stand alone even if there is an ongoing storyline like the Robattle Championship, Dr. Meda-evil or the Kilobots. Check it out and give it a chance. Shown on YTV in Canada. By the way Julie Lemieux does a good job taking over the Ikki role in season three.
