Avis à la une
If you can't get enough of Miss Piggy, this production will give you enough of Miss Piggy. She had obviously hoped to continue it onward as a regular variety program, but it's easy to tell why that didn't happen. In a musical number, Miss Piggy can make a great entrance in one of her glamorous gowns, but do we really want to hear her sing the whole song? She should concentrate on being the glamorous beauty that she is and leave the singing to the singers. And with a comedian like John Ritter on the show, let him take a little of the limelight too. And let George Hamilton do whatever it is that George Hamilton knows how to do. Alas, there is no musical inventiveness here, no comic inventiveness beyond the gags so familiar already from the Muppet Show, and little of the variety that we expect from a variety show. It's like staring at a Miss Piggy poster for an hour. But on the other hand, who among us hasn't done that?
This is a fun special. I'm a huge fan of the Muppets and could really watch anything the Henson people have done over the years. This is one of my least favourites of what they have done but I still like it. The only down side for me is that the entire special as you would imagine is focused on Miss Piggy and she's my least favourite Muppet. The voice and shrillness and the whiny complaints grate on my ears after a while and there's only so much of her singing I can take in one sitting. Not bashing it though, it's still a fine special and for anyone who likes Miss Piggy more than me you're gonna love it.
