Carlota gets to meet her fiance, prince João. Juvêncio attacks Manuela. João is appointed prince regent. Carlota seduces Gastão. Gomes sees his father again. Manuela is kicked out of her house.

Manuela hides Gomes from the soldiers. Carlota plots to remove João from power. Gomes saves Manuela from Juvêncio. Arminda sets a trap and Gomes is caught by Bagaceira.

Gomes escapes from Bagaceira e takes Manuela to his mother's house. The jewel merchant threatens Branca and Marialva defends her. Eugência tells João that she is pregnant. Gomes kisses Manuela.

Carlota finds out about Eugênia's pregnancy. Gomes is betrayed and sentenced to the gallows. Juvêncio threatens to abuse one of Manuela's sisters and she goes back home. João is pressured by the french.

João decides to send Pedro to Brazil. Pedro runs away. France invades Portugal. Juvêncio abuses Manuela. Branca catches Marialva with Carlota. Gomes and Manuela have their first night of love.

Everybody prepares to board. Marialva tells Carlota that he is going to stay in Portugal with Branca. Francisco thinks that Manuela is dead and boards without her.

In Brazil, they decide which houses the court will live in. They paint PR (Prince Regent) on the doors, but the population interprets it as Put Yourself on the Street ("Ponha-se na Rua").

Ten years pass and Pedro becomes a man. Pedro is fighting clandestinely and Carlota tries to catch him in the act and sends militiamen to arrest everyone there, but Pedro escapes.

D. Maria throws herself into the sea trying to return to Portugal and dies. Miguel doesn't tell his brother about his grandmother's death. D. João finds Pedro's absence at the wake strange and finds him with women.

D. João expels Pedro from the house and declares that Miguel will be his successor. Pedro stays at Emengarda's house, but ends up being kicked out.

Xuxu dies. Rita sets Manuela up, who ends up arrested. João and Pedro argue. Pedro takes off his clothes and humiliates his father. Pedro stops Miguel from whipping Plácido. Miguel plans revenge.

Manuela inherits a fortune from Xuxu and leaves prison. Dom João decides to arrange a marriage for Pedro. Miou-Miou sets up a plan and Inês catches Gomes. Branca is humiliated by her husband.

Felício is enchanted by Domitila. Gomes deceives Miou-Miou, sets up Fernão and becomes engaged to Inês. Dandara discovers Miguel's interest in Pedro. Gomes is arrested.

Manuela asks Soares to find her sisters. Pedro looks for Naomi. Dom João decides to invade Argentina. Branca discovers that she is poor. Dom João is feeling unwell. Gomes escapes from prison.

Carlota is very angry. Pedro sends jewelry to Naomi, but Catherine stops her from accepting it. Naomi receives another piece of jewelry, but is surprised to see that it was sent by D. João.
