Does Denny Wilson Die In 9-1-1?
Image
"9-1-1" might not be the best Ryan Murphy show, but it certainly developed a formula for procedural drama success by following first responders in both their professional and personal lives. Created by Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, the show focuses on several firefighters, police officers, and paramedics in Los Angeles, all of whom have to face some truly harrowing experiences in their various lines of duty. But they also struggle with their personal problems, and throughout eight seasons of the hit series (which aired on Fox for its first six seasons before moving to ABC), we've seen plenty of personal drama play out. Sometimes, though, the personal and professional collide in "9-1-1," such as when Aisha Hinds' firefighter and paramedic Henrietta "Hen" Wilson turns up to the scene of a car accident and finds her own adopted son, Denny Wilson (Declan Pratt), pinned between a crashed vehicle and a wall.

Smoke’s Dave Gudsen Is Based On A Real-Life Serial Arsonist: Where Is He Now?
Image
Dave Gudsen, in AppleTV’s show, Smoke, is loosely based on real-life firefighter-turned-arson-investigator John Leonard Orr, hailed as the most prolific American arsonist of the 20th century. Yes, you heard it right. John Orr didn’t only set fires in Glendale and surrounding areas but was also the first to arrive at the crime scene to investigate. However, it needs to be mentioned that Taron Egerton’s character, Dave Gudsen, just draws inspiration from the life and crimes of serial arsonist John Orr, and the show isn’t exactly based on his true story, as the creators have taken certain creative liberties in the portrayal of its antagonist. To begin with, John Orr was active during the 20th century, from sometime in the 1980s until his arrest on December 4, 1991. And he set fires in the LA region, mostly Glendale, where he worked as a fire captain and arson investigator. Meanwhile,...

AppleTV’s ‘Smoke’ True Story And Real-Life Serial Arsonist John Orr
Image
The opening minutes of the new AppleTV show, Smoke, talk about how a devastating fire is, among many things, also a great leveler, as it does not distinguish between its victims and simply rages with the sole desire of destroying everything and everyone in its way. But when it comes to crimes related to fires, an unpublished thriller novel written in the late 1980s, titled “Point of Origin,” clarifies how arson is typically different from other unlawful acts in a certain aspect. While most criminals feel an immediate need to distance themselves from their crime, an arsonist often returns to witness his act and feel proud and might sometimes even be, or pretend to be, a part of the extinguishing efforts. This idea, and the unpublished novel, was of John Leonard Orr, unarguably the most prolific arsonist in American history, and the main inspiration behind the character of Dave Gudsen in Smoke.

What Happens to Denny in 9-1-1?
Image
Quick Links Who is Denny Wilson? The Wilson Family Has Been Through a Lot Hen and Karen Wilson Completed Their Family in Season 7 Denny Saved His Sister on Halloween

Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, ABC's 9-1-1 is a procedural show that follows the work and personal lives of the firefighters at the 118 and their colleagues at the LAPD and the 9-1-1 dispatch center. Now in its eighth season, 9-1-1 has found its niche in stories that bring serious emotional impact, bizarre disasters, and moments that make the audience laugh. With a cast led by Angela Bassett and Peter Krause, 9-1-1 has garnered an audience that followed them from Fox to ABC -- during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, no less -- and continues to show up week after week.

9-1-1's main characters include LAPD Sergeant Athena Grant-Nash (Bassett) and Fire Captain Bobby Nash...

9-1-1 Season 8 Finally Brings Up Buck & Tommy's Shared Past
Image
Quick Links Who is Abby Clark? Abby Clark was an Important Relationship for Buck Tommy's Revelation Changed Things for Buck

When 9-1-1 began in 2018, Evan "Buck" Buckley (Oliver Stark) was a self-diagnosed sex addict who stole the 118's ladder truck for trysts, generally drove Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) crazy, and almost immediately got on the wrong side of Sergeant Athena Grant (Angela Bassett). Over time, he has become one of the show's most endearing characters, drawing a large fan base, both for him and the relationship many fans would love to see him in.

At the end of Season 1, Episode 1, "Pilot," Buck, who had been fired from the 118 for stealing the ladder truck one too many times, had an opportunity for redemption that changed his life. When Sergeant Grant called her best friend, Henrietta "Hen" Wilson (Aisha Hinds), for help, the 118 was already at the scene of an emergency,...

9-1-1 Season 8 Finally Gives a Fan-Favorite Character Their Due
Image
This piece discusses themes that might be triggering for some readers, including alcoholism, addiction, depression, and suicidal ideation.

In 2018, Fox began airing 9-1-1, an ensemble show created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear. Though Fox eventually canceled the show due to budgetary issues, 9-1-1 was lucky enough to have been created under an economic model that meant the show was owned by 20th Television, allowing ABC to pick up production. 9-1-1's 7th season premiered on ABC in March 2024, and the show immediately saw numbers it hadn't seen in several years. The Season 8 premiere, which aired September 26th, saw nearly 10 million viewers after seven days of multi-platform viewing, and the show's numbers have remained steady since.

Though 9-1-1 is an ensemble show, Angela Bassett, who plays police sergeant Athena Grant-Nash, and Peter Krause, who plays fire captain Bobby Nash, sit squarely at the top of the call sheet.

The 9-1-1 Beenado Season Premiere Was Perfectly Ridiculous

Quick Links The Well-Steeped Disaster in 9-1-1 A Fitting Bee-tastrophe in the 9-1-1 Season 8 Premiere

Season 8 of 9-1-1 premiered with a fantastic disaster episode, proving a signature win for the series. A mix of horror, hyperbole, and a whole lot of bees, the season kicks off with a killer episode that sees the city of Los Angeles brought to its knees when a swarm of angry bees is released into the streets. As the combined emergency services try to tame a disaster of epic proportions again, the series proves its at its best diving into the wild and unpredictable.

Starring Angela Bassett (Black Panther), Peter Krause (Parenthood), and Jennifer Love Hewitt (The Ghost Whisperer), 9-1-1 follows the lives of a group of Los Angeles first responders. In the season premiere episode Buzzkill, a tractor-trailer hauling 22 million bees is upturned on the highway. And as 22 million stinging assassins take over the streets,...

The Twilight Zone: Point of Origin Ending Explained
Image
"Point of Origin" from The Twilight Zone reboot delves into immigration, privilege, and belonging in a thought-provoking and cerebral way. The episode uses visual metaphors and a compelling narrative to explore the erasure of immigrants and the societal resistance to change. "Point of Origin" received praise for its deep social commentary, masterful storytelling, and standout cinematography among other episodes in the series.

The Twilight Zone Point of Origin ending is one of the most steeped in social commentary of every installment in the modern sci-fi anthology reboot, focusing on immigration and willful blindness. In "Point of Origin", an upper class mother patronizes the family housekeeper and soon discovers that she may be an immigrant herself in fact, she may be from another dimension. The Twilight Zone's Point of Origin demonstrates how some Americans forget where they come from, and remain ignorant of how first-generation immigrants correlate with the country's foundation.

‘The Twilight Zone’: Ginnifer Goodwin Faces the ‘Devastating’ Truth of Refugees in America
The Twilight Zone: La quatrième dimension (2019)
[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “The Twilight Zone” Season 1, Episode 8, “Point of Origin.”]

Ginnifer Goodwin played Snow White for eight years on ABC’s “Once Upon a Time,” but she leaves that fairy-tale land far, far behind to enter the nightmarish “Twilight Zone” on CBS All Access. In the episode “Point of Origin,” she plays Eve Martin, who leads a picture-perfect life as a housewife, mother, and benevolent employer who must question her ideas of what it means to belong in a society.

“On the surface, Eve is a privileged white woman who has grown up, to the best of her memory, very safely in the best version of America … in ‘The Twilight Zone’ world,” said Goodwin in an interview with IndieWire. “I would say that she pats herself on the back a little too often for the ways in which she finds herself to be generous. She considers herself very well-rounded, prepared, and protective,...

The Twilight Zone Episode 8

Some scholars and fans of science fiction will tell you that the purpose of the genre isn’t to answer the fascinating question it poses, but instead, to simply ask those questions in ways that make you think.

In this sense, the latest episode of Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone reboot — “Point of Origin” — is exactly like The Twilight Zone of old; it dips us into an interesting premise, but ends before we can figure out exactly how to feel about it. Most forward-thinking people probably have a sympathetic view of “illegal” immigration, but what this episode does is try to push the controversies around immigration into another dimension — literally.

In the episode, Ginnifer Goodwin plays Eve, an...

Ginnifer Goodwin: Twilight Zone's Take on Immigration Left Me Feeling 'Icky' — Plus, What's Her Manifest Anxiety?
The Twilight Zone: La quatrième dimension (2019)
This Thursday on The Twilight Zone, Ginnifer Goodwin plays a suburban housewife “who wants to go home.” But as the official synopsis asks, “Where — and what — is home, really?”

This latest installment of the CBS All Access anthology, rebooted by filmmaker Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us) and already renewed for Season 2, serves up a haunting take on immigration and “bystander apathy,” Goodwin says. And to reveal much more would be no fun, though we will note that James Frain (Gotham) and Zabryna Guevara (New Amsterdam) play key roles.

Goodwin, though, had much to share with TVLine about how this emotionally...

Body of Proof Review: The Hidden Truth
Body of Proof featured us a connection between the living and the dead in "Point of Origin" as a deceased woman's search prodded Peter to open up about his past.

This was a tough case for Peter. First, he saved Jenna from the fire... only to find out there was a second person he didn't save. The look on his face when he discovered the latter said a lot about this man. Others told him he'd already done more than most people would have by saving Jenna, but Peter obviously felt like he let a man die.

When Peter learned that Jenna had been searching for her birth parents, the parallel hit a little too close to home. Then, to know that hours before her death her birth father literally slammed the door on her, it was almost too much for him.

Daniel Robinson was a man with a lot to hide,...
