Image
Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan are back with the third installment of their hit Monster anthology series — this time turning their lens on one of the most chilling figures in true-crime history: Ed Gein. Following the global success of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, the eight-episode series revisits the gruesome crimes that haunted 1950s rural Wisconsin and inspired some of Hollywood’s most iconic horror films.

Starring Charlie Hunnam as Gein, the show explores the lonely recluse whose grisly acts — from grave-robbing to multiple murders — would go on to shape cinematic classics like Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs.

Image
While Wednesday creators, Alfred Gough & Miles Millar, are not be ready to say goodbye to Nevermore Academy just yet, the two creatives have expressed their interest in expanding the Addams Family universe. During a recent appearance on Deadline’s Crew Call podcast, the genius minds behind the hit Netflix series revealed that they are currently working on a new animated Addams Family movie for Amazon MGM Studios. Note: This new film will serve as a standalone reboot film, and it is in no way connected to the Tim Burton Netflix series, which just returned for Season 2. Though Gough didn’t reveal too much about the upcoming Addams Family movie, the Wednesday co-creator shared on the podcast:

“We’re working on it with Amazon MGM and with Kevin Miserocchi who runs the Addams Foundation, he knew Charles Addams and the keeper of the Addams flame, and with Gail Berman and John Glickman.

BAFTA Tweaks Voting Rules For International TV Category & Reveals 2026 Awards Dates
Image
BAFTA has tweaked its international TV category so that all of its 6,000 members are allowed to determine the nominations and winners.

The awards body said it has “opened up the international category to voting members as part of our commitment to greater member engagement across the TV Awards and in recognition of our global membership.” “We believe this change will strengthen the category and ensure the very best international programmes get the recognition they deserve,” it added.

Previously, the round one voting longlist was carried out by members but round two and three voting was conducted by a jury.

The move is reflective of an ever-globalizing world of television. The international TV category has thrown up some interesting winners over the past few years. In 2024, it was given to Netflix France series Class Act, which beat off competition from huge hits like The Bear, Beef and Succession. A year prior,...

Monster Season 4: Who Is the Lizzie Borden? Details Unveiled
Image
Netflix‘s true crime anthology series Monster is coming for a fourth season with America’s most notorious murder cases, the Lizzie Borden murders. She was accused of murdering both her father and stepmother with an axe. In 1892, she was a seemingly 32-year-old Sunday school teacher in Fall River, Massachusetts. Lizzy was innocent until her father and stepmother were found murdered in their home.

She became the prime suspect in the killing, which was committed with a hatchet. Although Lizzie was ultimately acquitted, public suspicion lingered for the rest of her life.

Now, Ryan Murphy‘s Monster: Season 4 will re-examine this chilling case. The Emmy-nominated crime series will focus on the events that led to the murders and the controversial trial that captivated the whole nation.

Announced on July 28, Monster season 4 will star actress Ella Beatty in the title role. According to Netflix Tudum and Deadline, the production is...

Ryan Murphy at an event for Mange, prie, aime (2010)
Ryan Murphy’s true crime-based Netflix series “Monster” season four will put the spotlight on the infamous Lizzie Borden, and Ella Beatty (“Feud: Capote vs. The Swans”) has been set to play the axe-wielding murderess.

Deadline reports that Rebecca Hall and Vicky Krieps are finalizing deals to join Beatty on the upcoming season.

Beatty will portray Lizzie Borden, with Hall said to be portraying Lizzie’s stepmother and Krieps playing a housemaid. The new season will tell the story of Lizzie Borden, who was tried and acquitted of the 1892 axe murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts.

The infamous case has inspired no shortage of adaptations, either. Lizzie Borden has been the subject of multiple movies and television shows over the years, including a new indie horror movie titled The Lizzie Borden Game, just released last week, and Christina Ricci played Borden in Lifetime’s The Lizzie Borden Chronicles...

‘Wednesday’ Season 2: Everything We Know About The Cast, Premiere Date & More
Image
Updated with the latest: Wednesday’s sophomore season has become the latest to get the two-part release treatment from Netflix.

After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for a second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered. It eventually became the most-watched original series ever on the streamer, with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things Season 4, Dahmer, and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.

Season 1 received 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She became just the third Latina ever to be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

Wisconsin Just Passed New Tax Credits for Film and TV with Bipartisan Support — Read That Again
Image
While Trump has flirted with imposing a 100 percent tariff on movies made outside the United States, Wisconsin is welcoming the industry with hope and energy. A new bipartisan budget from the Badger State — which tipped red in the last presidential race — will ramp up Wisconsin’s film and TV game.

Last week, local legislators made plans to re-establish the state’s film office, which went dark in 2005. They also approved $5 million in annual tax credits, with a $1 million cap per project, for productions made in Wisconsin. Democrats started winning again during state elections this spring, but securing new arts funding from the government in 2025 is a political miracle almost anywhere in the country.

“A lot of these states are getting these credit programs,” said Nathan Deming, a filmmaker and volunteer for the film coalition, Action! Wisconsin. He advocated in front of the state’s Ways and Means committee earlier this...

The Borden murders and trial received extensive nationwide publicity in the U.S. and have remained part of American popular culture in the decades since. Sigourney Weaver’s Creepiest Serial Killer Movie Is Now on Netflix That Brad Pitt Overshadowed
Image
Actress Sigourney Weaver gained fame for her role in the Alien franchise, becoming a bankable commercial star in the 1990s. The decade was dominated by serial killer movies, especially after the critical acclaim of 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs, which led to a surge in similar films.

In 1995, Weaver starred in a psychological thriller that received praise and also performed well at the box office. However, it was inadvertently overshadowed by another serial killer movie starring Brad Pitt. Weaver’s movie is now available on Netflix and is worth watching, having become a relic of the 1990s serial killer movie boom.

Netflix surprisingly adds Sigourney Weaver’s serial killer movie, Copycat

Sigourney Weaver appeared in the 1995 psychological thriller Copycat. In the movie, Weaver plays Dr. Helen Hudson, a criminal psychologist who teams up with a homicide detective, Inspector Mary Jane “M.J.” Monahan, played by Holly Hunter.

A Major Stranger Things Season 4 Netflix Streaming Record Was Just Broken After 3 Years By 99% Rt Miniseries
Image
A massive record held by Stranger Thingsseason 4 has been surpassed, according to Netflix's recent streaming data update. Wednesday season 1 holds the trophy for the most-viewed English-language TV show of all time, but Stranger Things season 4 previously held the #2 position. Stranger Things is, of course, not only one of the biggest Netflix shows but one of the most popular TV shows ever made, and its upcoming fifth season could shatter records. Stranger Things season 5 premieres November 26, 2025.

Netflix's streaming data is always fascinating to analyze, as the platform's algorithm has proven capable of launching anything from Bridgerton to Squid Game to The Tiger King into a cultural phenomenon over the weekend. Creators behind some of Netflix's most popular shows discussed news for upcoming titles at the recent Tudum event, but new, less-advertised shows are constantly popping up out of nowhere. 2025's Adolescence is one of the greatest examples.

Main ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 Trailer Puts Lee Jung-jae in the Games One More Time
Image
The final season of Squid Game is right around the corner, and Netflix has made its biggest series of all time one of the centerpieces at Tudum this weekend. The streamer has dropped the final trailer for Squid Game Season 3, which is coming to the platform on June 27. In typical Netflix fashion, all episodes of the show will premiere at the same time instead of in parts or one episode per week. Squid Game Season 3 will see Lee Jung-jae return to his iconic role of Seong Gi-hun to face off against the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) one last time. Gi-hun watched Front Man murder one of his best friends right in front of him at the end of Season 2, so his drive for vengeance is higher than ever.

The first season of Squid Game premiered on Netflix in September 2021, and it wasted no time, becoming not only the biggest...

Hit Netflix show adds Enterprise and Prodigy actors to its already Star Trek-heavy cast
Image
Production is underway on season two of the Netflix hit comedy-mystery A Man on the Inside, and it will feature a pair of new co-stars who happen to be Star Trek veterans. Season one, which dropped in November of 2024, stars Ted Danson as Charles Nieuwendyk, a bored retiree who lands a job assisting a private detective attempting to track down a ruby necklace gone missing at a San Francisco retirement home. Season two will find Charles still working at the private detective agency and no doubt serving as the inside man again on a new case.

The actors from the Star Trek universe joining the cast of A Man on the Inside are Linda Park and Jason Mantzoukas. Park was a regular on Star Trek: Enterprise, portraying Ensign Hoshi Sato for all four seasons of the show’s run. “You” is over, but there are plenty of murderous shows with morally questionable characters yet to be binged on Netflix.

Adolescence is about to pass Stranger Things on the all-time Netflix Top 10
Image
Move out of the way, Stranger Things! There's a new Netflix show rising up the all-time Netflix Top 10.

According to Netflix, Adolescence is now the third-most popular English language Netflix show of all time, one spot behind Stranger Things season 4. Adolescence has racked up 124 million views since its premiere on March 13, only 17 million views, roughly, behind Stranger Things season 4.

Netflix tracks this data and shares it for a new show or season's first 13 weeks after release, so by my unofficial calculation, Adolescence has about seven or eight more weeks to rack up 17 million views, pass Stranger Things season 4, and settle in at the No. 2 spot on the all-time Netflix Top 10. Netflix shared that Adolescence racked up another 9 million views this week, so it's probably going to happen within the next two or three weeks.

That's such a wild accomplishment for a show like this. I don't think anyone, even those at Netflix,...

'The Breakfast Club' Cast Reunites for the First Time in 40 Years
Image
It's hard to question the legacy of a movie like The Breakfast Club. John Hughes' coming-of-age masterpiece of 1985 was a fascinating depiction of teenage angst, as seen from the perspectives of five students coming from different parts of '80s society. It was a game-changer for its young cast, who would then become part of the Brat Pack and pursue acting careers outside the stereotypes the movie built for them. Curiously, as famous as the film was and as timeless as it remains for its fans, in over 40 years, the cast has never reunited. That was until a few days ago, when Andrew, Brian, John, Claire, and Allison were seen together at a pop culture convention.

The Breakfast Club cast has reunited for the first time in 40 years, although not in a sequel to the beloved high school movie. As reported by People, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estévez,...

‘Adolescence’ Becomes Netflix’s No. 4 Most Popular English-Language Series Ever With 114 Million Views and Counting
Image
“Adolescence” has not stopped gaining steam. Last week, the U.K. limited series joined Netflix’s list of its most popular English-language series of all time last week at No. 9, knocking “Bridgerton” Season 2 off the list and pushing “Stranger Things” Season 3 down to No. 10. Now, “Adolescence” is in fourth place on the list with 114 million views in only 24 days.

The series is now only behind “Wednesday” Season 1 (252.1 million views), “Stranger Things” Season 4 (140.7 million views) and “Dahmer: Monster” (115.6 million) on the list. It appears likely to eventually usurp at least the “Stranger Things” and “Dahmer,” as Netflix measures this list based on 91 days of viewing for each title, so “Adolescence” still has more than two months to catch up.

17.8 million of the show’s 114 million-view total came during the May 31-April 6 viewing window, making it the No. 1 TV title of the week in its fourth week on Netflix.

‘Prison Break’ and ‘Squid Game’ Are Hits, ‘Monsters’ Dropped and 5 More Netflix TV Takeaways From Back Half of 2024
Image
Sometimes you know what people are watching on Netflix just by being part of culture. It’s not going to shock anyone to learn that “Squid Game” and the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight were, indeed, hits.

But when you dive further into the streamer’s data, weirder trends begin to emerge.

For example, did you know that in the last six months of 2024, people were all about “Prison Break” and that audiences were watching that nearly 20-year-old Fox series far more than both “Lost” or “Dexter”? Well, now you do.

Following the streamer’s release of its most watched titles from July to December of 2024, TheWrap combed through the top 100 TV titles in search for trends. Then we went a bit beyond that just for fun. From “Squid Game” Season 2 to “Tokyo Swindlers,” here’s what the world was watching in the second half of 2024.

Netflix all-time top-10 viewed series might surprise (but two still dominate)
Image
In case you did not know, though we are sure you did, Netflix produces a lot of fantastically entertaining original content. Sure, maybe not all of it is good. Still, even the shows that many people feel iffy about can get awards. You either loved or hated Baby Reindeer, for instance.

Some shows are popular, even though they would not seem meant to reach a massive audience. What does this say about the human race? That is likely for psychologists and archaeologists to figure out. Maybe we aren't that warped, but we also can be pretty fond of some brutal TV shows.

Case in point is one of the series that appears on Netflix's all-time top-10 most viewed. The list below is not just English language or non-English, but a combination of the two. The viewing numbers are provided by Netflix's Tudum. In other words, they are officially official.

Why Netflix's Controversial Murder Mystery Series Is Accurate About Jeffrey Dahmer Story Explained By Expert
Image
Netflix's controversial Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has been rated as highly accurate in its depiction of the infamous serial "Milwaukee Cannibal" killer by a crime expert. Created by American Horror Story's Ryan Murphy, the miniseries stars Evan Peters as the titular killer. One of the most-watched series on Netflix, Dahmer offered a dramatized peek into the killer's life, including his eventual capture, while portraying some of the systemic failures that allowed Dahmer to evade justice for years. Despite its popularity, Dahmer has sparked controversy among families of the victims for sensationalizing the tragedies and potentially retraumatizing them.

On Insider’s How Real Is It? series, former homicide detective Pat Postiglione assesses the depiction of Dahmer's crimes in the true crime show, rating it a perfect 10 out of 10 for realism. He specifically reviewed a scene of Dahmer in which detectives search the killer's apartment and find a...

Top ten most watched shows ever on Netflix might surprise you
Image
Looking for something new to watch this January? Or perhaps an old favorite to dip back into. Taking some tips from what lots of other people have been watching could be a great way to do so.

This could be similar to looking for a busy restaurant that's popular with the locals. It should be a sign of a great place to eat. So why wouldn't you want to see the shows that have almost one and a quarter billion views from people watching on Netflix?

That’s the staggering number of views that the ten most watched shows on Netflix in English have clocked up. All those people can't be wrong, can they? Now, there is a slight warning here, too; you might likely be one of those viewers for some of the shows in the top ten. That’s fine and not a problem, it just shows what good taste you have.

‘Carry-On’ Is Now Netflix’s #5 Movie Ever, Bumping ‘Glass Onion’ from the Top 10
Image
In a shakeup to Netflix’s All-Time Top 10 list, “Carry-On,” the thriller starring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman, is now the #5 most-watched English-language film in its first 91 days on the service.

In the process, “Carry-On” bumped fellow Netflix original film, Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story,” from the Top 10. Johnson will get his chance to make things right with his third “Knives Out” installment, “Wake Up Dead Man,” arriving later this year.

“Carry-On,” which was produced by Amblin Partners, debuted on the all-time Top 10 with 149.4 million views, and it managed to do so in less than four weeks, so it still has a lot of time to keep climbing. For its fourth consecutive week, the film directed by Jauma Collet-Serra has topped the weekly film list, notching another 17.4 million views during the week of December 30.

It’s an impressive feat considering “Carry-On” is a Christmas movie, a...

‘Laid’ Tells the Story of Sex, Death, and the Single Girl

“My vagina is killing people.”

As pithy summations for TV series go, that line from the new Peacock comedy Laid is pretty tough to beat. The series, created by Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna, and starring Stephanie Hsu and Zosia Mamet, has a particularly high-concept premise: Ruby (Hsu), who has compiled a long and messy sexual history without ever finding a relationship that works, discovers that everyone she has ever slept with is dying. Because it’s happening to these men and women in the order in which they had sex with Ruby,...

Image
The one-man juggernaut that is Ryan Murphy announced earlier this year that the next season of his hit Netflix series, Monster, would focus on infamous serial killer Ed Gein, with Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam in the lead role. Now, we have our first look at Hunnam in character, and the resemblance to Gein is so uncanny that we had to blink twice to make sure it wasn’t an AI clone.

What’s on Netflix recently shared a few photos snapped by Backgrid (seen below), which show Hunnam wearing Gein’s trademark flannel and sporting the close-cropped, slicked to the side haircut that can be seen in many photos taken of The Butcher of Plainfield after he was arrested in 1957. Dubbed The Original Monster for Season 3, the Netflix series also features Vicky Krieps, who can also be seen in the pics wearing a lavish yellow dress with a cowl.

Monster Season 3 Set Photo Reveals First-Look At Charlie Hunnam As Infamous Serial Killer Ed Gein

In an interview with Empire, director Joachim Rnning teased what to expect from the upcoming installment, and promised the film will still maintain humanity at the core of the film while unveiling a better look at the new red suit. At the same time, it further hyped one of the most exciting parts of the film: the soundtrack. This Horror Franchise Has Disturbing Connections to 4 Real-Life Serial Killers
Image
William Friedkin's 1973 horror classic The Exorcist is often thought of as a cursed film. The hysteria sparked at screenings, the rumors of disturbing behind-the-scenes events, and the exploitation of religious anxiety all combined into a reputation for real evil. This notoriety was amplified when the three-film Exorcist franchise drew fans such as the Zodiac Killer, the Gainesville Ripper, and Jeffrey Dahmer; stranger still, a real-life killer had a bit part in the first film.

Historically, horror has been a convenient scapegoat for public crises. After all, it is easier to ban a movie than to address the real causes of violence in society. However, when a storied franchise like The Exorcist attracts such infamous admirers, it becomes impossible not to take notice and the killers in question have also been linked to Scream, Cruising, and American Horror Story: NYC. There is no reason to believe that their crimes were inspired by these films,...
