Veena Meettiya Vilangukal

The film begins and ends with Madhu who is the hangman in the local jail. He is proud of his job though his wife keeps questioning him about morals of taking some one's life legally .

He lives with his doting wife ( Jayabharati ) and daughter and leads a meagre existence . His son the waylaid Rahman is the local wastrel always whiling away his time fighting with the local goons . Despite Madhu trying his best to tame his son , Rahman is jobless and does bits and bobs . He is mostly shunned by society .

He marries Urvashi who is a young widow on the impulse when she is harassed by some goons .

He meets a rich business man Sukumaran one day and his life changes. Pleased with his brave and helpful attitude , he is given a job by Sukumaran . When Madhu explains to Rahman that Sukumaran in fact is a smuggler and has a lot of illegal activities, he refuses to let go citing loyalty .

Rahman's sister is sweet talked and violated by a rich man's son . She commits suicide with no way out . Some fights and twists later Rahman ends up killing him . A lot of conflicts between father and son are shown with the mother trying to make peace with them .

Finally Madhu hangs his own son in his call of duty and burns the hangman's rope .

Urvashi has a small role as a young widow . Only for Rahman's fans .
