      Too silly yet too fun

Despite being ridiculously stupid in its story and general concept, I somehow managed to go through most of the sequences of Sansar, one of many films made on families getting separated and then again, getting together. In this case, the story was unintentionally funny as it was very unbelievable to see a family dividing the house only because of one silly rift. For the most part, particularly throughout the second half, Sansar is one hell of a cliché and most of the dialogues are cheap and repetitive lines of old platitude. Yet, there was something enjoyable in this silliness. The film, though at some points made me laugh given its unjustified seriousness, at others it actually worked because one has to know that it is not to be taken seriously. Those who can understand it will enjoy it. The film's first part was much better. It was quite convincing in its depiction of changing times and social norms of those times, and I personally always enjoy watching films involving simple middle-class families and their struggles. It is of course not even close to the magnificent films made by Hrishikesh Mukherjeee for that genre, but it was nice enough. It is, as said, the second half which lets the film completely down, but anyway. Among the cast, everyone does well, including Anupam Kher, who plays the proud father yet again, and Rekha, who is the ultimate daughter in-law everyone would want to have. Raj Babbar was also very good. The music is forgettable, but who cares. Watch Sansar, don't take it seriously, and you may enjoy it quite a bit.

One single scene of the movie has the ability to fail many big hits altogether

The fued between Anupam Kher & Raj Babbar alone is better than a lot of movies made in Bollywood.

The kind of emotions and relativity to reality this single scene have is indeed a harsh truth of a lot of household around the globe.

      Such a wonderful movie.

Not your typical joint family venture

Anupam Kher once again proves that he can easily manage roles that are even beyond his age range. He was a delight to watch and his mannerisms are easily relatable.

Coming to the next best thing is the wonderful chemistry between Raj Babbar and Rekha! Even though the couple doesn't indulge in a typical romantic song or a romance situation, they are still a delight to watch because the couple looks very very real!

The third best thing is the overall cast collaboration! One of the very few films I have seen where there is good emphasis even on the extras that support the leads.

There are a lot of fabulous actors in this film apart from the leads, so much that mentioning them will make me write an essay!

      Watch it!

its meaningful and pretty contextual for the time-frame it provides.

Movies have told to be barometer of our times. This is one of those movies. Look at when this movie came up, this movie came up in 1987 which means it probably was started in 1983-1984 which is where lot of families became nuclear families. Remember this was when we were still fighting the hindu rate of growth, i.e. 3-4% annually and that used to be on a good year.

Some of the reasons were pointed out above but the biggest ones was freedom and ability to take your own decisions rightly or wrongly and deal with the consequences.

If you were to read the politics of that time, this was a hot political issue. Today if the same things were to happen, I doubt somebody would have the courage to make a similar movie today.

It was stated that Rekha and Raj Babbar created a scene at Juhu Beach at 4 am in the morning. The story went that a intoxicated Rekha was walking and crying near Juhu Beach at 4 am. People started to notice her and and a crowd started to gather and follow her. That is when she jumped inside a auto rickshaw and demanded he leave fast . This is when Raj Babbar came with his car and blocked the rickshaw. Several people stated Babbar was also drunk . That is when Rekha got out of the rickshaw ans started walking again. A crowd gathered and was following Rekha. Babbar was seen walking behind her yelling to leave her alone as she had gone crazy. Babbar finally got back into his car and left. It was only when the car of producer Tito and Tony appeared did Rekha stop and break down in tears again. Rekha got into the car and whizzed off. . Baba Bhalla ( Rocky) assistant director to Ramesh Behl and aspiring villain, was a eye witness to the whole incident. He stated his eye witness version in the June 1987 edition of Stardust magazine. People insisted the whole incident was a publicity stunt for the movie Sansar. So the audience would go see the film for Rekha and Babbar. The producer A .Poornachandra Rao denied the allegation and said he knew nothing about the incident. He said his films do not need any publicity and run on their own merit.
