Avis à la une
Love is the Drug is a cautionary tale about the excessive freedoms given to teens - it is a film every parent should watch. As it plays out, it sticks rightfully close to the teen cast and is quite skilled in presenting things from their point of view. Its characters are as often shown conspiring as partying, which only draws the viewer further into their narrow-minded world. The actors are clearly a credit to the film, each actor crafts a complex, believable character that blends Love is the Drug's specific, southern Californian setting with the kind of truth that eludes the vast majority of its genre peers. I feel this is a film parents should see if they want to understand teens today.

Why aren't more teen films true to life like Love Is The Drug? We can all relate to being the new kid and considered a geek. Trying to be accepted and wanting to be accepted by the "popular" crowd - usually the wrong crowd. Falling for that unobtainable person. Fear of being rejected. I love the twist - this is what makes this film even more interesting. No, I won't tell you what it is, just trust me - it's great! Parents should watch this film, too. This will help you remember what it was like being a teenager. Not only is the story good, but they picked the perfect cast, so believable! The actor who played Jonah played him so true that I am sure if not yourself, you will remember someone like him when you were in High School! Why isn't this in theaters?

I came across this movie last night. I had never heard of it, but it had lizzy caplan in it, so I thought it might be good (I've never seen her in a bad movie, and she is a wonderful actress). Within 5 minutes, I was hooked. I can't believe I had never heard anything about this. It is riveting. Most of the actors were well cast, and they were all very believable. The story line was your basic "good kid hooks up with the wrong crowd", but they did good job of giving it just enough twists and turns to make it different. I think I might make my teenage son watch it just so he can see what might happen if you fall into the wrong group.
Cover of the DVD case says "Fast times at Richmond High meet Kids" No not really.
It was just another movie about rich kids using someone to get something that backfires. The whole movie was transparent beyond words. If you couldn't figure out what was gonna happen within the first twenty minutes, then you weren't watching it.
The acting is pretty solid. Lizzy Caplan is great as she always is. John Patrick Amedori was great also, he did a fabulous job. Overall the acting was solid and parts of the story has tons of potential that it never tapped into.

Why is such a good film not in the theaters especially with the craze of teen movies out there? Love Is The Drug surpasses them, why hasn't anyone recognized that? When you're growing up, the teenage years can feel like the greatest tragedy. Emotions run high; love is eternal, betrayal rampant and unforgivable and acceptance nonexistent. Even though the storyline is not original in drug use, casual sex, peer pressure, and absentee parents, but it manages to distinguish itself, largely through its directorial poise and focus on subtle character dimensions. The film doesn't seem to be moralizing the subject matter, but letting you come to your own conclusions.
