    Unexceptional Event

Firstly, let me say that the 1992 Survivor Series broke with tradition. Survivor Series made it's debut in 1987 and up until 1991 it was an event which featured teams of four (or five) against each other. The 1992 Survivor Series had one match of that description but the rest were regular tag and singles matches which was a bit disappointing. After all, I think most fans enjoyed seeing teams of four against each other.

Anyway, that's ancient history now because the following year the Survivor Series reverted to it's four VS four formula but I thought I'd mention that above.

The whole card was pretty unspectacular. Don't get me wrong-the wrestlers all tried but at the end of the card I felt unfulfilled.

The only great match on this card was the main event between WWF Champion Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. For over twenty minutes the two greatest wrestlers of 1992 put on a great show for the fans. This match was brilliant but one match doesn't make a good event.

    Very Skippable

Clearly, the WWF was still sorting itself out of the post-Hogan era at the time of this event, and despite a few hints at things moving in the right direction, Survivor Series '92 is kind of a mess and ultimately very skippable in the PPV canon.

Most of the matches in this event are subpar and featuring uneven talent. For example...

-Tag team match between High Energy (Owen Hart and Koko B. Ware) vs. The Headshrinkers. Talk about starting off with a whimper. Decent wrestling, but little "push" for either team makes it ultimately expendable. -Big Boss Man vs. Nailz in a Nightstick Match. Dumb concept, even worse wrestling. -Virgil vs. Yokozuna. The big man would prove to have some staying power in the WWF (he moves well for such a fat guy), but having him in the ring with Virgil is so comical as to be ridiculous. -A similar thing happens with the ever-popular Undertaker against the completely embarrassing Kamala.

Probably the only two decent matches of this event were:

-Tatanka (a fan favorite!) vs. Rick "Model" Martel. -Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels for the WWF title. A decent match even if both men have had (and will have) better.

One final note: Good to see Razor Ramon making his first PPV appearance (I believe) here. He knows what he is doing and how to put on a good show.

Overall, Survivor Series '92 is a disappointment pretty much any way you slice it. A few hints at the company turning itself around, but it certainly doesn't make that leap this go-round.

    Not the greatest

Survivor Series '92 was a bit of a disappointment. The only match that really stood out was the main event. High Energy vs. the Headshrinkers was lame and so was the " Night Stick on a Pole" match between Nailz and the Big Bossman. This was Yokozuna's first ppv and he squashed Virgil. This also had the first ever casket match. The casket match was too short seeing the Undertaker won by pinfall and then put Kamala in the casket (watch as the Undertaker drives the nails into the casket; he either drives them in crooked or misses them completely). There was much hype for the Perfect Team (Randy Savage & Mr. Perfect) vs. Ric Flair & Razor Ramon. During the match, it looks as though Perfect turns on Savage but you can tell that he really won't. The match was boring. The best match, by far, was Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart. It was a great match. * Note that both men would meet 5 years later during a very controversial match at Survivor Series '97.

    Who will survive 1992.

The changes that take place over 92 starts with a flair push. Leading to Hogan flair mania that never happened. The mega maniacs forming at summerslam for this event. No warrior just days before. A quickly worked survivor series follows. The planning for the superstars is getting shorter and shorter just the next pay per view and complete angle switch could follow. I am a fan of the survivor event so with only one match in this style doesn't seem like a series. Mr Perfect having a memorial night with a big turn in a short space of time and the best match of the night. At years start royal rumble seemed like the WWF had everyone in wrestling. By the last event of the year no Hulk Hogan Ultimate warrrior British bulldog legion of doom Hawk & Animal etc and I know these all have there stories behind them regardless these are some legendary names gone as WWF tries to survivor. Feels more summer slam event than survivors event. At summerslam Bret loses intercontinental title to bulldog. Shawn Michaels double count out with the model . Didn't seem like the planning was for a push for these two to have both titles in the next event. However they got here two great workers.

The Coliseum Video/Silver Vision release contained seven extra segments:
      • Right after the Headshrinkers vs. High Energy match, Lord Alfred Hayes interviews The Big Bossman in the men's toilets prior to his Nightstick on a Pole match against Nailz.
      • Sean Mooney interviews Nailz after he lost the Nightstick on a Pole match to The Big Bossman. Nailz angrily pins Mooney to the wall and says that his loss was another case of misjustice before walking off.
      • Lord Alfred Hayes conducts an interview with Tatanka, who is sitting in his dressing room, chanting while holding his talisman in preparation for his match against Rick Martel.
      • Just before the Yokozuna vs. Virgil match, Lord Alfred Hayes tries to conduct an interview with Yokozuna in his dressing room, only to find him getting a massage from two geisha girls. Mr. Fuji offers the same treatment to Hayes, who takes it up, only for Fuji to tell him to leave after only two seconds of the massage.
      • After the Nasty Boys & Natural Disasters vs. Money Inc. & Beverly Brothers match, Lord Alfred Hayes interviews Virgil, who warns Bret Hart to watch out for Yokozuna.
      • Right before the WWF World Championship match, Harvey Wippleman and Kim Chee break Kamala out of the casket and berate him for losing to The Undertaker.
      • After the PPV ends, Bret Hart and Santa Claus are seen in front of the Survivor Series interview set, as Bret tells Santa that he wishes for not only peace and happiness on Earth, but also the biggest, baddest, toughest superstars in the WWF to challenge him for his World Championship as his Christmas gift.
