Performances were strong

Saw this film at the Lake Arrowhead Film Festival. The filmmakers did a good job of avoiding the usual traps of this kind of movie. They didn't hit the "American Beauty"-thing too hard and, except for a few places, avoided trite sentimentality. The film could have been a few minutes shorter, but the ending was pretty powerful. I'm still not sure if I am supposed to be happy or sad at the end of the movie.

Good Film, Great Ending

Oh, my God, someone's actually trying to make movies for mature adults. It was slow like a good European film (think Rhomer, Bergman, Bresson), but it kept building and building momentum. Good job, guys. Your ending's stuck with me all year.
