This series is known as another legend of Lodoss Island

There's a short part in the beginning of the series stats that "There were another legend in Lodoss". Chronicles of The Heroic Knight is that other legend.

The creator of this series clearly draw a line between the two series, mentioned that they are two different legends of Lodoss war in that era.

At first I was confused by the similarity of both series and thought Chronicle of The Heroic Knight are the continue story of Record of Lodoss War. Then I realize the beginning part where the story teller mention, it is another legend of Lodoss. It all make sense if you don't link both series together. Because it is Legends after all (not fact).{Must be some historians of Lodoss Island make different records which make the two ending of both legend un-match.} I hope there will be more versions or continue of the story coming and make into animation cause this is my favorite anime since I first saw it way back 1992. Can we write to the author/ production team to make suck request?

Very Enjoyable! (relates to dubbed version)

"Record of the Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight" is an awesome 27 episode anime series. The first eight (or so) episodes are about the free knight Parn, his elven companion Deedlit, and many others who make a wonderful mercenary group. They cast spells, fight evil beings, and prevent a black knight from taking control of Lodoss, the Accursed Island.

The following 19 episodes are my favorite though. It's nine years later, and the knight-in-training Spark and his recruited soldiers must save the world from a dark sorcerer and cunning goddess. The animation is very colorful and clean. The dialogue could use some help, but the voices that speak it are very intelligible and appropriate. I loved the action, and I couldn't help myself from rooting for the the "bad guys" in some cases. This television series is a great find for anime fans and fantasy/adventure lovers. I cheered, laughed, cried, and even dreamed about this series.

    A Partial Sequel...

Chronicles of the Heroic Knight is a semi-sequel to the excellent anime OAV Record of Lodoss War. The first part of the series is basically a re-telling of the events from Records.. and tells the story a slightly a different way. I believe it is the "TV Series" version of the story. The animation is better but I personally prefer the OAV. The Second part is a sequel and follows Spark, an aspiring Free Knight who's hero is Parn, we get to see the original characters and what has happened to them. We also meet Little Neese, daughter of Slayn and Laylia whom Spark vows to protect from her destiny. The animation for this part is great, and it's got a great story just like the OAV, I recommend it for all Lodoss fans, fantasy fans and anime fans!

This is what a sequel should be... minus the small loose ends.

Having just finished Cronicles of the Heroic Knight mere minutes ago I find myself extremely please but questions still loom over me. While it would appear that the first 7 episodes or so are actually a retelling of the events of the first Record of Lodoss War the truth is that they really aren't. It would appear that the creator of CotHK had a different vision as to how the original ended (and that may be the reason that the first 7 episodes occur) but I do not find that to be the case. CotHK does say it starts 5 years after the War of Heros which Parn was a part of. I think the director made the first 5 episodes seem so much like a recap of the original just to give the viewer a small reminder and an introduction to characters and their deeds done because they appear much less after the series kicks into Spark's story. Now, once the series does kick into Spark's portion we find ourselves kicked up another 10 years (15 years now since the War of Heros). Spark and his crew do, in some cases, resemble Parn and his crew once the journey kicks into gear, especially the love story that brews between Spark and Neese. I also thought several times throughout CotHK that I threw in the original series and if it wasn't for Spark's long blue hair I know I would've pressed stop more than once to make sure the right disc was in. By no means do I consider these major set backs however, the writers did a fine job in crafting believable characters and a remarkable storyline. The only thing that makes me hurt is that Ashram and Wagnard return. Ummmm... how??? Don't get me wrong both are great villains even though Ashram's only villainous trait is that he supports the Marmo. Perhaps I missed something during the coarse of the series that explained that part. As far as sequels go though, I highly recommend CotHK. I place both CotHK and, even more so, the original Record of Lodoss War far above the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Both of these are more epic than anything I've ever seen or read. I highly recommend this.

This series is a remake/sequel to the Record of Lodoss War OAV series. Episodes 1-8 start after the 8th episode of the OAV series. They are based on the original Record of Lodoss War novels #3-4 by Ryo Mizuno entitled "The Dragon of Fire Dragon Mountain I & II". Episodes 9-27 follow the stories of the original novels #6-7 entitled "The Holy Knight of Lodoss I & II". Which in turn spawned the manga (18 issues) & graphic novels (6 books) available in English from CPM Manga entitled "Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight". It is that manga series that the name of this anime series comes. Some people believe that the writers and directors "rewrote" the story found in episodes 9-13 in the OAV series, where in reality the intent was to convey the story as it was originally written by Mr. Mizuno the Lodoss series author and creator.
