Les deux pieds dans la même bottine

After watching this movie for 15 minutes, there was a total of 0 laughs, however there were plenty of blank stares which finally collimated in everyone getting up and doing something else (including writing this review). We failed to understand the kind of mind set you would have to be in to find this movie funny. I would contend that the lowest 1 star rating is about 5 stars more then it deserves. It really is that bad. Its like having a room full of kids trying to be funny but none of them are, and since they wont stop, it just becomes tragic. If I had a chose in watching the paint age on the wall or watching this movie, I would watch the paint age.

I had seen The Klutz (the English Title) on T.V. in the past. While perusing a bin of $1 DVDs at Loblaws I found a copy of the film. I didn't buy it then but the next time I went there I picked it up.

I bought this film because the star of the film, Claude Michaud, reminded me of one of my old bosses at work.

This movie was given a turkey in that now worthless Home Video Movie Guide or whatever it is called but for the price the film was well worth its tiny asking price. A true hidden gem.

The movie is about the klutzy Claude Latour and his misadventures. He is engaged to Martine, a beautiful young woman who truly loves him despite his faults. However, Martine's wealthy father will not accept the marriage unless he makes something of himself. Latour's attempts to stay on the job are humorous to say the least. At his last job at a construction site he ends up swallowing a nail and the ensuing surgery causes him to lose his voice. Then he gets accidentally involved in a robbery and he is left holding the bag and the movie deals with his attempts to get out of this pickle.

The movie isn't high-budget. I think the same budget that is used for those Skinemax films on Sex T.V. was used for this one. It's more of a T.V. film. However, Michaud's performance is terrific. He makes Latour a very likable character and you root for him. Louise Portal, who would later be in The Decline Of The American Empire, is also pretty good and she looks gorgeous here as well.

To be honest, the dubbing of the film is akin to those chop-socky King Fu films. Some of the voices are downright hilarious and the acting is over the top. The DVD does have the original French version with subtitles so maybe I will look at it again.

I doubt, like many films and shows I watch, that you will find this everywhere but those who live in Ottawa, anywhere in Quebec or any Francophone part of Canada should be able to find this somewhere at Loblaws. For $1 it is at least 5 times worth it's price.

"The Klutz" has got to be one of the worst movies ever made, which is why it's so much fun to watch. I remember being at the grocery store on a Friday night, when my dad decided to rent this movie. The beginning is awful and very hard to understand, but comical in a strange sense. During several scenes, we found it difficult to understand what was actually happening. One scene in particular, the house party, was so bad, and so poorly filmed, that we broke out into a fit of laughter and almost collapsed from exhaustion. The acting is appalling. The synopsis of the movie talks about a bank robbery. I don't ever remember making it that far in the movie; we couldn't laugh that long without causing some major health problems. The film is dubbed, poorly, in French, and is a genuine riot to watch. I would give this movie a two thumbs up, only because it is a sheer feat of comedy. Unfortunately, I don't think this was the intention of the creator. I would recommend seeing it once in a lifetime for the value of a poorly made movie.
