Why I loved this movie, it because of its execution and performances. It has a good ensemble of actors like Sanjeev Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Farida Jalal, Aruna Israni, Sulakshna Pandit and Asrani and they all just give apt performances.
It is in the genre of mystery. Though it is not very difficult to predict things, but the way the story goes forward is really engaging. You will remain hooked up, even if you have watched it before. While the whole settings create good tension , the end is very touching and emotional.
The movie brings us close to family values and so I feel it is very relevant even after more than 4 decades of its release.
The song "Apne Jeevan ki Uljhan Ko" is a class apart .....in the voices of both Kishore and Lata
A movie to be watched!!

Uljhan review :
Saw it as a kid on Doordarshan in the mid '80s, Uljhan was a suspense drama starring Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar and introducing Sulakshana Pandit who played the about to get married bride who visits the hotel room of villain Ranjeet to retrieve the love letters of her friend cum (to be) bhabhi Farida Jalaal. Unfortunately, Ranjeet being Ranjeet tries to rape her and she ends up killing him. Sulakshana then returns to her wedding function and stays happily married until her own cop hubby (Sanjeev) uncovers the identity of the killer..
Uljhan was a finely executed suspense drama which kept the viewers hooked right till the end. Sulakshana impressed in her debut and she was actually recommended for this role by Sanjeev herself after Jaya Bhaduri refused it. Overall, the film makes for a good one time watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Try it!

If you want to see Bollywood movies that are no nonsense and see some of the best performances of the "acting school" Sanjeev Kumar, and Ashok kumar, you are here for a treat. The songs are marvelous and the overall story just binds you through out the movie. I generally don't like any of the mainstream film from yesteryears as the trends gets so much outdated and acting looks more stage oriented, but when it comes to likes of Sanjeev Kumar and Ashok Kumar, there is a big exception
My review is kind of over and I would'nt mind if the adminstrator edits and just puts the first para or doe whatever he wish. I just watched this movie over TV, searched on net for place where I could buy the DVD from, landed this site and decided to write review, since I would like Bollywood movie lovers to watch this one from yesteryears.

What could possibly the reason to make this movie, i am sure even the starts of the movie couldn't bear it..!! Useless Asrani has been shown more matured in his as a cop then the hero himself, and madam Jalal has played her character to perfection, hiding behind family, unknown illness to save her self. What a crap...!!
This movie is not only entertaining but also inspirational. One would never see a better movie on a woman's sacrifice for her in-laws. The women is willing to sacrifice everything i.e. her Husband, family, own life ... Amazing... and it all looks so convincing. I have already watched this movie at least 20 times and never tired of watching it again. I would rate it Sulakshana's best movie. A good story, good acting by Sulakshana, Sanjeev Kumar, Ashok Kumar and all others. Title songs by Kishore and Sulakhana are both really good. I am surprised at this movie not being super hit. And finally thanks to director who did not have to add any redundant scene. Good courtroom proceeding and happy ending.
