When I say it's unforgettable I really mean it. I remember watching this film as kid when it was released in 1986 and it's still fresh in my head. Thanks to VCR rental service those days I saw this film at least 7-8 times in the span of 3 months. While I was loving this film, most of the elders or friends of my age would find it crap or boring. Unfortunately the film was also supper flop on it's theatrical release, but I use to recommend it to everyone who would plan to rent VCR next weekend and next day I would get abuse from friends, rarely I wold get appreciation for the recommendation.

Much later when I became part of film industry also got expose to international cinema as part of my staple diet and happens to watch "Bourne Identity" I kept thinking why I feel I have already seen this film or this story sounds very familiar, while it was newly released film in 2002, much later I could decode that why I felt BI is known to me. We did produce this film based on the same Novel much before Hollywood produced it. And yes I must admit for 1986 that film was ahead of it's time.

Anyway I am big fan of Umesh Mehra he was really modern director for that time. in the age of 12-13 if knew the name of direcotr and his entire filmography that it self shows impact of his work on my mind while I was living in a small village of Chhattisgarh.

I would recommend film lovers you must watch Avinash as tribute to original novel.

An unofficial remake of Bourne Identity with Mithun Chakraborty in tutular role; Avinash was produced by Keshu Ramsay and directed by Umesh Mehra. A delayed release, it was one of last films of Parveen Babi who left it incomplete so her character is bumped off in the film. Personally, I found Mithun da's Gunmaster G9 series better than this one.

Avinash directed by Umesh Mehra can easily be defined as one of the classic thriller of mid eighties.Prem Chopra does Anti-national Activities with the help of Tom Alter. They have also made a secret plan to destroy the various parts of the country.This plan is recorded by the pilot of chopper of Prem Chopra.But Prem Chopra knows the facts and sent his goons to find out the video clip by killing the chopper pilot.Chopper pilot is killed by the goons in front of Mithun who is performing a dance number in a Disco club to celebrate his brothers birthday.But during the course of killing that chopper pilot who is actually a secret agent hide that video clip in a musical drum in presence of Mithun.But Mithun is unknowing about that facts.But Premchopra and his goons think that Mithun is knowing the facts of hiddening that video clip so they attack Mithun's house and killed his mother , injured his brother and fiance played by Poonam Dhillon.Mithun is also heavily beaten by the goons to death but he is saved by a drunken Doctor.But Mithun has lost his memory.Now the thriller begins, on one hand Prem Chopra and his goons try to acquire video clip from Mithun and on other hand Mithun tries to search his loose identity.Due to amnesia Mithun completely forgets his fiance Poonam Dhillon but the goons take that advantage and place Parveen Babi and then Bindiya Goswami as love interest of Mithun to acquire that video clip.What is the actual identity of Mithun, is he able to gain his memory again, is it possible to save the country from Prem Chopra and his goons, is Poonam Dhillon able to establish herself as fiance of Mithun;All these questions will be answered in this 2 hours 14 minutes film. The thriller is very well executed.Screenplay and Direction are above average.Performence wise Mithun as Avinash is brilliant, he alone shoulders the films.Parveen Babi and Poonam Dhillon are good in their screen presence.It is known from sources Parveen Babi left the film Industry during the shooting of that film.It is also evident from the film where Parveen Babi suddenly faces a burnt death and her faces are not disclosed during the dearh scene.But surprise package of this film is Bindiya Goswami.She looks gorgeous and steals the show among the heroines.Music by Bappi Lahiri is strictly average.Two sad versions of Jaaga Soya Pyar Yeh Mera and Disco number Teri jo Khushi are good.But the only drawback of the film is poor editing particularly during the concluding part of the film.It is no doubt that Avinash is a good thriller film ahead of its time and one of the less known film of Mithun which deserves more than its actual reception.

A dealer of stolen goods and a singer, Avinash finds his life turned upside down when goons break into his house, assault his fiancée, Dr. Sapna, and his brother, Sumit; kill his mother; abduct and then torture him in order to compel him to tell them about the whereabouts of a missing video film. He attempts to fight back, is shot at sea, and is believed to have perished. He does survive, but has lost his memory. Soon he will not only be chased by goons, but a woman, Nisha, will attempt to seduce him; another woman, Alka, will claim to be his wife; Rajan, a Police Inspector, will befriend him; and a terrorist, Pratap, and his goons are determined to get the video-film at any and all cost.

Gripping action-thriller with shades of the Bourne identity in regards to our hero -mithunda- losing his memory and getting swept out into the sea and loads of bad guys led by Prem Chopra on his trail. It's well-paced, has intrigue, twist and turns and suspenseful enough to keep you tuned. It's a solid entertainer with some action sequences, plus Poonam Dhillon, Parveen Babi and Bindiya Godswami sizzle on the screen.

Avinash Directed By Umesh Mehra is An Action Thriller Drama. Direction is Brilliant. Movie is Based On Novel The Bourne Identity By Robert Ludlum. Script & Screenplay Are Well Written. Plot is Similar To The Bourne Identity With Few Changes. Action & Dialogues Are Good. Editing Could Have Been Better.

Pratap(Prem Chopra) Does Anti National Activities With The Help Of Sam(Tom Alter). He is Again Ready With A Plan To Damage The Nation. While He Explains The Plan, It Gets Recorded & Clip is With Babu, His Chopper Pilot. Pratap Gets To Know About The Clip. After Being Injured By The Goons Of Pratap,Babu Dies in Front Of Avinash (Mithun Chakraborty). Pratap Feels That Avinash Has The Clip.

Avinash is A Musician As Well As Petty Thief.He Lives With His Mother(Sulabha Arya) & Younger Brother Sumit(Ravi Behl). Sapna (Poonam Dhillon) is Fiancé Of Avinash. Pratap in Search Of Clip Reaches Avinash House. His Mother Gets Killed, While Sapna & Sumit Get Injured. Avinash is Beaten To Death But He Has No Idea Of The Clip. They Threw Him In The Open Sea.

He is Picked Up By Fishermen, Dr Anand(Sudhir Dalvi) Operates Him. He Also Finds He is Suffering From Amnesia, Apparently As A Result Of A Traumatic Head Injury. Avinash is Now In Search Of His Own Identity. While Others Are in Search Of Avinash When They Realize He Is Still Alive.

Acting By Mithun is Brilliant. Poonam Dhillon Does Well In Few Scenes. Parveen Babi Has Only Few Scenes Which Were Retained When She Left The Movie To Move USA. Bindiya Goswami & Sujit Kumar Are Well Written Characters. Prem Chopra is As Usual.

Music is Average. "Jaaga Soya Pyar Mera" By Kishore & Anupama Deshpande is Beautiful Romantic Track Which Has Two Version is Best Of The Lot.

Even Though The Movie Was Delayed By Years . It Did Well. Must Watch For Mithun & Thriller Movie Fans.
