Avis à la une
As a longtime fan of Rocket Robin Hood, Spider-Man and Captain Nemo, the references this film makes are hysterical. But where it really shines is in its take on Left vs Right wing ideologies. I see it was made in 2000, but is more relevant now in this post 9-11 world. I think the people who hated the style of animation missed the point; I thought it was traditional cell work until I found out it's all 3-D work made to look bad. THAT is GENIUS!
According to the website, it looks like the filmmakers are planning a Christmas episode; I wonder if unchecked consumerism will be skewered as effectively as politics. Incidentally, if you do go to their website Hoverboy-dot-com, you'll find lots of support material. These guys clearly love the types of cartoons they're parodying and you can see it in their brilliant homages.
Absolutely loved it!

I see by the copyright this thing is six years old but does it ever have a lot of relevance to today's scary post 9-11 world where a violent "superhero's" actions make the world safe by storying a lot of it. Ignore the people who rag on the "deliberately primitive" animation -- they clearly don't get it. Frankly the political and sociological subtext of Hoverboy is likely beyond them. Watch it with an open mind; you're bound to learn something about the human condition and may even realize that our leaders (from McCarthy to the current administration and politicians on both sides of the spectrum) have long used fear to push their own agendas.
Do yourself a favor: watch this thing if you can find it and tell your friends to do the same.
Long Live Hoverboy!

Hoverboy is a hilarious spoof of 50's Communist paranoia. The animation is first rate and the story line will leave you laughing. This film combines 1950's style comic book drawings with that eras "Red Menace" propaganda. This is a short film you'll want to see more than once!
This is by far, one of the best Canadian animations ever. This guy is an absolute genius. I just hope one day he makes this into a TV show. The best part (in my opinion) was Hoverboy battling the Robot. Super funny.
A must watch!
Words really can't describe this obscure film's brilliance. The animation is brisk and flawed only when it should be for hilarity's sake, the actors are all obviously in love with their characters (that's what I get from their vocal performances) and it is even funnier for me, having been someone brought up on Spider-man and Rocket Robin Hood.

I have been working in the animation industry for 12 years and I really do enjoy classic animation. I can see the influences that these early cartoons have had here. However, the real thing that makes those cartoons great is the fact that the 'cheesiness' was really not intended. They just had no choice. Although HOVERBOY has really captured the look of the period and the style I just feel it falls short on the feeling. Thus making it just a poor clone but an entertaining one none the less. If you are not up on cult animation you may not care for this piece. I have to give Mr. Moore and A for effort though, HOVERBOY really does look old and crappy.
