The Heckle and Jeckle Show

I remember seeing Heckle and Jeckle as a kid, along with Mighty Mouse on Saturday morning cartoons. The whole set-up for this show was pretty funny with one cultured and one "common" bird always at odds. It was really like an early "Odd Couple" featuring magpies(?). Terrytoons Studios were thought of in a bad way by most animators, but many of them found a way to support themselves there after being let go in the slow work (and political purges) of the 1950's. The artwork was definitely broadly done in a limited style, but every kid I knew loved them. I remember being truly ticked off when the cartoon was sited as being considered racial sometime in the 1960's---it seemed to me that everything was either too sexually or racially oriented then. Recently, they were brought on CHEAP DVD versions by a company named Digiview Productions with between 10-12 episodes per disc. I've only seen them at Wal Mart and they are only a buck. Good picture and clear sound, though---lots of other old cartoons, as well.

Its amazes me that this these classic cartoon characters Heckle and Jeckle are no longer shown on either Nickelodeon,Boomerrang,or even Cartoon Network and I wonder why??????????? They need to get WITH IT! and frankly...............

ANYTHING IS WAY BETTER THAN POKEMON!

These outrageous magpies were the stars of Terrytoons galaxy of cartoon line-up of Saturday Morning and Sunday Morning shows which featured also in the category Mighty Mouse,Deputy Dawg and so many more that were featured during the late-1950's and well into the 1960's and the early 1970's(which originally ran on CBS-TV from 1956-1972)and it was sponsored by General Mills cereals. As for the birds themselves,you had a smart alec New York bird,and a proper speaking British one who were always getting into all sorts of trouble and for one it was hilariously funny especially with the birds getting into mischief. A must see to what they will do next. Brings out the kid in all of us. Very good.

However,Heckle and Jeckle were so good that they made a comeback in 1979 with "The New Adventures of Heckle and Jeckle" which all new episodes but with little fanfare. Lets hope that Cartoon Network gets it right with bringing these characters back.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that someone looking for such esoteric stuff like "Heckle and Jeckle" already has a pretty good idea of what they're about and that I'm not really interested in somebody else's opinion? What I am looking for is technical info that will help me make a wise purchase, such as, number of episodes produced in which studios by which directors and animators and voice talent. How many companies produced transfers from film to digital and was the quality any good? Give me some news I can use please. And now for the padding, why should I be penalized for using an economy of words? Yes it brings back a certain vague '50s nostalgia when I also watched 'Tom Terrific', 'Crusader Rabitt' and the strangely surreal 'Gumby' Luckily I now have a boxed set of 'Rocky and Bullwinkle'. Happy now?

Truly iconic and funny cartoons. No one can make cartoons like these and others anymore. Hanna Barbera. Etc. No voices like Mel Blanc and Alan Reed,etc. Computer generated ones are just awful. No one has the talent. I'd love to see a channel just show the cartoons made in that era. QuickDraw McGraw. Yogi Bear. Huckleberry Hound. And many more. We need something that us Baby Boomers remember. Just because we are ' seniors ' doesn't mean we can be left out. More of us that Millennials. I'd have a great time watching them. Good laughs and great memories. Something to share with Great Grandchildren. But just enjoy ourselves too.
