Amazing Masters of Martial Arts

I recently watched Amazing Masters of Martial Arts (1986) on Tubi. This documentary delves into the lives and techniques of martial artists such as Sonny Chiba (Street Fighter), Bruce Li (Fist of Fury III), and Carter Wong (Big Trouble in Little China), exploring their styles and how they are incorporated into their films.

Directed by Domonic Paris (Dracula's Last Rites) and narrated by Ken Howard (Michael Clayton), the documentary features insightful narration and captivating flashbacks to classic martial arts movies, showcasing beloved martial arts actors. While Ken Howard's narration is commendable, I found myself wishing for more direct input from the cast members themselves to hear their personal stories. Additionally, it would have been beneficial to include other icons of the time, such as Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. Nevertheless, the documentary provides enough engaging content in its one-hour runtime to keep fans entertained.

In conclusion, Amazing Masters of Martial Arts offers an average but enjoyable exploration of the martial arts genre. It's worth a watch for fans of martial arts movies. I'd give it a 6/10 and recommend giving it a viewing, at least once.

When the credits finally rolled on this gem I was left both confused and deformed. But out of all the madness...comes a song. We are not sure if its song by Domonic Paris or crack master bones, but that debate is without merit or purpose. It is a song of unequaled and unbridled skill in theory and composition. "don't mess with no ninja" "no contest" I learned absolutely nothing from this movie. Nothing. Carter Wong an his awesome assistant exhibit some of the finest martial arts I've seen since Sasha Mitchell took up the gloves in the Kickboxer series. I really don't know what else to say other then, watching this, and seeing this are two different things. For to truly watch this is an act of suicide. But to see it is enjoy the carnal knowledge of sonny Chiba.

Man, what a waste of an hour. You get badly dubbed and poorly framed clips of mostly bad movies, nothing from any real stars save for a couple of Sonny Chiba bits, and a narrator that is so bad he says Samurai wandered the countryside of China hundreds of years ago!

Mostly it's just a guy telling you all about the amazing feats martial artists can do then showing bad kung fu movies, an old TV show appearance of a guy breaking boards, and a fairly ok dude doing kata in an all black room. The only thing that saves this at all are the TWO rap songs about karate in the soundtrack. One is a low-fi poem thing, the other a full on cheesy 80s rap. Both are great. The movie is not.
