Aakhri Baazi

Aakhri Baazi is a drama crime film directed by Ashim S. Samanta and starring Shatrughan Sinha, Govinda, Kunal Goswami, Moushumi Chatterjee, Mandakini, Sonam, Late Mac Mohan and Late Sadashiv Amrapurkar.

Ram wants to avenge his friend cop Laxman who's mysteriously killed while pursuing a case. As he closes in on a gang named Cobra, he realises that their leader may be his own brother, Prashant.

Aakhri Baazi is another 80s regular action film with plot similar to the 1982 blockbuster film Vidhaata and offered nothing new in terms of story or execution.

The acting is average with Shatrughan playing an honest man turning into a Don and was average, Govinda was impressive rest all of them were average with Moushami a supremely talented actress irritates whenever she is on screen. Mandakini and Sonam had nothing to do much but Kunal Goswami was surprisingly good.

Screenplay of the film is average and so as the music of the film. The director being son of the legendary film maker Late Shakti Samanta i had some expectation from him but he was just average with this film. Can be watched once only if you have nothing else to do or nothing else to watch, otherwise please ignore.

Aakhri Baazi review :

Loosely adapted from Subhash Ghai's Vidhaata (1982), Aakhri Baazi had Shatrughan Sinha, Govinda and Kunal Goswami in action mode against Sadashiv Amrapurkar. Shotgun Sinha played a coolie turned don à la Deewaar (1975) who provides high education to bro Govinda and keeps him away from his shady business.

The pretty Mandakini, cast opposite Govinda, wore a blonde wig and almost resembled a barbie doll in one of the songs. Sonam had nothing to do except one song with Kunal.

A Shakti Samanta production directed by his son Ashim, Aakhri Baazi offered nothing new in terms of content or execution and naturally, bombed at the box office. I hear that its Bengali version fared better though.
