R.D. Burman won his first Filmfare Best Music Director Award.
The film had inspiration from classic Tumsa Nahi Dekha 1957.
The film was produced by Reena Roy's sister Barkha Roy.
Creative genius Rahul Dev Burman composed a wicked background music piece for Shakaal's entry. He used trumpets and used them twice in the intro of the song. He later took that same tune of the trumpets and used it in the middle of the song of Dekhta Hoon Koi Ladki Haseen in the film Sanam Tere Kasam. Years later Jatin Lalit were inspired by this tune and used it for the words "Deewana , Dil Deewana" in the song "Dil Deewana" from the film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa.
RD woke up after a late night. Filmmaker Narendra Bedi and Barkha Roy (Reena Roy's sister) were waiting for him. They had arrived for a planned sitting for Sanam Teri Kasam with all musicians. But RD had forgotten. "Panchamda saw Pakistan in a newspaper headline and immediately asked, 'What's their dictator called?' When told it was Gen Zia, he began tapping his foot, slapping his thigh and sang, Zia... Ah ha ha. Bedi asked him why Zia and he asked, 'Achcha heroine ka naam kya hai?' Somebody said Reena Roy only for him to snap, 'Arrey picture mein naam kya hai?' That's how it changed from Zia to Nisha. Just like that."
