Barney was originally intended to be a bear. After Sheryl Leach's son Patrick went to a dinosaur exhibit, the character became a dinosaur.
The series featured two future Disney Channel stars Selena Gomez (Gianna) and Demi Lovato (Angela).
Originally created in 1987 for a series of videos titled "Barney and the Backyard Gang".
There have been a total of four people with a disability on the show:
1. Patty, who is blind.
2. Jason, who is deaf.
3. David, who is in a wheelchair.
4. Colleen, who has one hand.
According to the episode "Happy Birthday, Barney!" Barney is two hundred million years old or two dinosaur years old.
