The Odyssey: Christopher Nolan's Adaptation Rumored To Be Hit With An R-Rating
Image
According to a new rumor from Mttsh, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey will be rated R.

This would be a somewhat surprising development. Though Homer's poem certainly features enough violence, sex and other elements to warrant an R-rated adaptation, we had assumed that Universal would prefer a PG-13 in order to appeal to the widest audience possible and maximize profits.

The studio might well have pushed for the more family-friendly rating, but at the end of the day, Nolan is a filmmaker who is in a position to make any type of movie he damn well pleases at this stage!

It's also worth keeping in mind that Nolan's last movie with the studio was the R-rated Oppenheimer, which went on to gross just short of $1 billion worldwide and won several Academy Awards.

The first teaser for The Odyssey is expected to screen ahead of Jurassic World: Rebirth, so we...

The Batman Star Robert Pattinson's The Odyssey Character Reportedly Revealed
Image
As filming continues on Christopher Nolan's star-studded adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey in Favignana, Italy, we may have word on the character another key cast member will play in the movie.

According to Italian magazine Chi, Robert Pattinson will portray Hermes.

In ancient Greek mythology, Hermes was a mischievous deity who was known as the herald and messenger of the Olympian gods, often tasked with delivering messages and guiding souls to the underworld. He was also associated with trade, luck, fertility, animal husbandry, sleep, language, thieves, and travel.

Only Matt Damon's role as Odysseus has been confirmed, but it's believed that Tom Holland will take on the role of his son, Telemachus, with Zendaya as the goddess Athena.

Greek media site OneMan.com recently shed some light on which mythological heroes and villains a good chunk of the other actors will play.

Just in case some of these...

The Odyssey Set Photos Reveal Spider-man Star Tom Holland In-Costume As Telemachus(?)
Image
As filming continues on Christopher Nolan's star-studded adaptation of The Odyssey in Favignana, Italy, these latest photos from the set give us a first look at Tom Holland in-costume.

The Spider-Man: No Way Home star is believed to be playing Odysseus' (Matt Damon) son, Telemachus, though this has yet to be confirmed.

In Homer's poem, father and son spend the majority of the story apart, and only reunite right at the end. Since these photos appear to be taken from the same location Damon and Zendaya were spotted in earlier this week, there's a good chance Favignana will double for the island of Ithaca.

Holland's Spider-Man was expected to play a key role in Avengers: Doomsday, but the actor wasn't included in Marvel Studios' recent cast reveal. Though Parker could still show up (we know the entire cast wasn't unveiled), Holland simply may not have been available...

Rumor: Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey Will Feature Gods & Monsters; Robert Downey Jr. Courted For Poseidon
Image
The Dark Knight trilogy director Christopher Nolan has assembled one of the most impressive casts we've seen in quite a while for his upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey, and it sounds like he was hoping to be able to make the ensemble an even more star-studded affair.

According to Daniel Richtman, Nolan was courting Oppenheimer Oscar-winner Robert Downey Jr. for the role of Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea, but the actor was going to be too busy filming Avengers: Doomsday to make it work. The scooper has also heard that Nolan is staying "super faithful to the original story, and is "determined to use as many practical effects, real sets, and as much makeup work as possible."

This follows a previous report that Nolan intends to shoot the movie's Cyclops scenes at Nestor’s Cave in Greece, and a 6x6m mechanical anthropomorphic puppet of Polyphemus is being created for the sequence.

The Odyssey | Christopher Nolan adapts epic poem for next film
Christopher Nolan at an event for Inception (2010)
Christopher Nolan is adapting classic Greek poem The Odyssey by Homer for his next film, it’s been confirmed.

We’re catching up on a few stories following the festive break, so let’s start here.

Nobody can accuse Christopher Nolan of being complacent. After beginning his career with films like the low-budget Following, the mind bending Memento and thriller Insomnia, Nolan created arguably one of the greatest superhero trilogies of all time with Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.

Since then, Nolan has been ever more ambitious in his cinematic storytelling, from the epic beach scenes of Dunkirk to the innovative narrative of Tenet and the craftsmanship behind the build up of tension before the explosion in Oppenheimer.

His next film is somewhat surprising, and certainly not an easy text to adapt. According to Deadline, Nolan is turning Homer’s epic 8th century Greek poem The Odyssey into a film.

Christopher Nolan's Next Film Will Be A "Mythic Action Epic" Adaptation Of Homer's The Odyssey
Image
We recently got word that Christopher Nolan was working on a new film for Universal Pictures, with Matt Damon set to play the lead. The cast has since grown to include a wealth of A-list talent, but plot details had been kept under wraps - until now.

Numerous rumors and theories have been doing the rounds, with the mysterious project said to be everything from a futuristic action thriller inspired by '80s helicopter flick Blue Thunder, to a period vampire thriller. However, insiders maintained that nobody came close to nailing Nolan’s real idea, and they were absolutely right.

Universal has now officially announced that Nolan will helm an adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey.

"Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for...

Cbbc’s Broom Cupboard at 35: Memorable Childhood Moments
L'acrobate (2019)
On the afternoon of the 9th of September 1985, UK children were introduced to their new big brother. Phillip Schofield, a vision in a side-parting, a geometric print jumper and a beaming smile, arrived in the Children’s BBC Broom Cupboard to babysit the nation’s kids for an hour and a half every weekday.

Schofield’s job was to ferry us through the post-school slump and drop us off at Neighbours no later than 5.35pm. He let us watch cartoons, wished us happy birthday, praised our felt-tip drawings of Jimbo and the Jet Set, and never once told us off for eating too many packs of salt and vinegar Chipsticks before tea.

After Phillip came Debbie Flint, who was awesome because her earrings didn’t match, and then Andy Crane, who taught us all the words to the Around The World With Willy Fog theme song. Cheery Simon Parkin and...

Ancient Greek Gods in the 31st Century? Saturday Mourning Cartoons Reviews ‘Ulysses 31’
Image
https://youtu.be/cjZOKxKBSzg Listen / download here: We're going Greek -- Ancient Greek, that is -- in this week's nostalgic cartoon review with Ulysses 31. This early 80s animated series aims to retell Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey" set in the far-flung outer space of the 31st century. It's one part Saturday morning cartoon, one part classic literature, and 100% good, old-fashioned animated insanity. Shout-out to our longtime fan, friend, and regular contributor Bobby Anthem for recommending this one! And another special call-out to TheAdamAdamant who has restored all 26 episodes of the series, …...
