Scrooge's Rock 'N' Roll Christmas

I just caught this abomination on a local public TV station (which obviously got it very cheap). It looks like someone's community college senior video project -- the video quality is poor, the lighting is bad, etc. The great Jack Elam (I'm sad to say) and the blond girl are awful, acting-wise. The musical artists (all of whom were, to be blunt, quite washed up in 1984; I mean, the Association? 3 Dog Night?) all lip-sync VERY badly, and Bobby Goldsboro appears to be wearing Tony Orlando's old hair! I have no recollection of even being aware of this thing in '84, and I'd be astounded if this actually aired on a network, or even in syndication. Some camp value, to be sure, but utterly horrendous!

My teenage daughter and my husband leave the room every time I bring out this old video! I originally bought it, because I wanted to see the performance of The Association. Other artists include: Paul Revere & the Raiders, Three Dog Night, Brian Love, Jan & Dean, and a few women signers (can't remember who.) Bear in mind that some of these groups have had major personnel changes. Only The Association has their original line-up.

Basically, we have Jack Elam as an old crotchety grouch. A nauseatingly perky blonde tries to cheer him up and get him into the holiday spirit, by having him look into a crystal ball, where he sees all these musical groups perform their holiday songs. Does he end up getting into the holiday spirit? Well, you will just have to find an old copy of this on eBay, to find the answer...

If you are into early 80's nostalgia, you might get a kick out of this (if you can just get past that nauseatingly perky blonde...)

I took one point off for the raiders song going on for wayyy too damn long, and another point off for Mike Love's dead eyes at the end. But most importantly, is there anyone out there who has any information on that random singer named BRIDGET??? They talk her up as being the next big thing and I can't find anything about her online. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone here. Why did she disappear off the face of the earth???

Overall though, I love this movie for the camp factor. I'll definitely be watching it every year now because it's short and sweet and really inexplicable in so many ways.
